Boston, Smith, Keaton and Simpson Ruled the Jr. Fan Club Night!

By Greg Soukup

EAGLE, Neb (August 23, 2008) - Cool temperatures, a very fast track and some hot racing action were the rule tonight as “America’s Home Track” Eagle Raceway hosted Junior Fan Club Night, presented by McDonalds. The track conditions had some of the classes running within 2 ½ tenths of the track record in the heats and into the B Features, and provided 3 and 4 wide racing throughout the event.

At intermission there was a $1000 money grab for all of the kids on the front stretch and after the racing was concluded DJ’s from The Brew and The Kat ran a mini-van obstacle course race.

The first A Feature was for the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts, and saw Mike Simpson grab the lead in his #63 with the 95C of Bob Cigelman, the #16T of Tyler Saathoff and Matt Moyer’s 29. After the leaders passed the flag stand on the first lap there was a multi-car melee in turn 2. Among the casualties was Cigelman who lost and bumper and went to the pits. On the restart Simpson held his lead with Moyer in second, the 21 of Jake Sells in third and the 21T of Brandon Thornton in fourth. Three and sometimes four-wide racing was the norm throughout the race with numerous passes back and forth between the competitors. At the finish it was Simpson, Moyer, Sells and Thornton.

“After losing by maybe 3 inches to Jeremy Noonan at Butler County last night I can’t even tell you how good this win feels. It was GREAT!! I’m so happy that we came through with a win tonight” Simpson said. “The track was a little rough tonight, but good and tacky. I just worked the car and worked the corners and brought it home” he continued. “I was to say thanks to my wife Krista and my daughters Krissy & Shelby for working on the car with me. They’re my pit crew. And I don’t want to forget Rusty, Kim and Kyle Schamp” he concluded. Simpson’s sponsors include Hawkeye Foods and The Look Hair Salon.

The Valentino’s IMCAA Hobby Stocks were next out on the high banks. The early lead went to the B4 of Ben Becher with the 71K of Josh Kennell in second, Dan Jackson’s 98 in third, Dan Noonan’s 12 in fourth and “Chevy Jerry” Keaton in fifth in the #3K. Keaton wasted little time, moving up to fourth on lap #2. Lap 3 saw Noonan get very loose coming through turn 4 and dropping several positions. That same lap saw Kennell move past Becher for the lead, Keaton advancing to third and Lee Kracht’s 10K coming up to fifth. With 8 laps left Keaton moved up to second. 2 laps later Shane Hiatt cracked the top four in his #21H. The very next lap Jackson and Kracht got together on the front stretch, bringing out the yellow flag. At that time the running order was Kennell, Keaton, Becher and Hiatt. Hiatt took advantage of the restart moving up to third with the 86 of Justin Wulf grabbing fourth. Kennell dropped out with just four laps remaining after suffering a flat right rear tire. At that time it was Keaton, Hiatt, Wulf and Becher. On the restart Kevin Anderson moved up to the fourth position in his #22K. At the checkers it was Keaton, Hiatt, Wulf and Becher. Hiatt was disqualified after failing to pass the IMCA tech inspection when it was found that his engine had ported heads.

“Even though the track was rough, it was super raceable. I hit my setup tonight and the car handled perfectly” Keaton stated. “I’ll be honest; I was really nervous about finishing in the top four and then making tech, with all of the talk about claims and all. But, I said the heck with it and just drove” he continued. “I want to send out special thanks to several people. First, to Ed for helping me pull my intake manifold in the tech area, to Dylan Smith’s wife for escorting me down to pick up my check and most of all to Justin Wulf for all of his help. I also want to thank my friends Lee Kracht and “Nacho Libre” and of course all of my sponsors who help me out” he finished. Jerry’s sponsors include Jack’s Automotive Machine, Big Daddy Chassis, Team G Spot, Ron & Sons, Scribner & Lyons and Jay’s Tire & Complete Auto Care out of North Bend.

The A Main for the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds was a testament to how fast and racy the track really was tonight. The early lead was held by Ryan Fuchser in the #49. Close behind him was the 4T of Jerry Trejo, the 5ST of Dan Wayman and Doug Deterding’s 13. Deterding remained in fourth only until lap 2 when he passed Wayman for third. The next lap Aaron Pella moved his 3A past Wayman also to snare fourth. Lap #4 saw Pella advance to third around Trejo and Deterding leap-frogging both Fuchser and Trejo for the lead. But, the two fastest cars on the track were the #95 of Dylan Smith who jumped all the way up to second on lap #5 and Chris Alcorn who was also rapidly advancing through the pack. With 6 laps down Smith moved past Deterding and took over the lead. The next lap saw Alcorn jump all the way up to the third spot. Alcorn wasn’t through however, as he took over second with 10 laps to go. Four laps later a caution flag was displayed for debris on the track. That allowed Alcorn to move right up to Smith’s rear bumper. Try as he might, he couldn’t quite get the better of Smith however. At the finish it was Smith by less than a car length, Alcorn, Deterding and Pella.

“I got through the pack so fast in the beginning that I was afraid I had too many laps to lead and too many chances to make a mistake. I’m ALWAYS nervous about leading to be honest. You never know how fast you need to go into and through the corners, or who’s coming up behind you. I nearly spun out with 3 laps left, so I started easing through the corners. The whole time until the finish I was worried about Chris because I knew he was right behind me and a lot of times beside me. Luckily I edged him out” Smith said. “I want to thank Grandma and Grandpa, my mom and dad, Mike & Lisa Goecke my car owners, and Damion Joni and the girls” he added. Smith’s sponsors include Active Life Family Chiropractic, Marquardt Plumbing, Jet Racing, Star-Lite Machine. Vrbka Ag Solutions, Augustin Electric and Team Heavy.

The final A Feature of the night turned out to be a marathon. Lasting nearly an hour the race saw numerous spins, flips and other stoppages. Trevor Grossenbacher’s 35 was the initial leader, followed by the 27 of Brad Wright, the 9J of Mark Schmidt and Bobby Becker’s 8B. The first red flag flew shortly after the leaders passed the flag stand on the initial lap. Austin McCarl got his #17A over another racers tire, launching him high into the air and causing several end-over-end flips. Luckily, McCarl was uninjured. Terry Holliman moved his #23 past Becker on the restart for fourth. The next lap the yellow flag came out when Jeff Lowery spun his #45 in turn two. Holliman again used the restart to advance into third as he passed Schmidt. The same lap Becker made contact with another racer, resulting in numerous flips in turn 3 for the 8B. The running order for the restart showed Grossenbacher in the lead with Wright, Holliman and the 17 of Gage Dorr. After another lap was in the books Jay Russell’s 76 and the 51 of Mike Boston moved up to fourth and fifth. Boston got around Russell on the next lap and then sling-shotted all the way to second on the next circuit. Boston grabbed the lead for good on lap #8, with Russell moving to third on lap #9. Three laps later the yellow flag again was waved as Frank Galusha brought the 24B to a halt on the front stretch. On the restart Russell spun in turn #4, having had his nose wing flip over several laps before. The same lap saw Dorr spin in turn 3. Jeff Griffis moved into the third spot as the race resumed. The race was red flagged on lap 14 when Russell flipped in turns 3 & 4. The running order was Boston, Grossenbacher, Griffis and Wright. Griffis did pass Grossenbacher, only to have his pass negated by an inadvertent yellow. Griffis was a man on a mission, but unfortunately jumped the cushion in turn 2 and struck the wall. This moved the 14 of Josh Riggins into fourth. From there to the finish Boston, Grossenbacher, Wright and Riggins maintained their positions.

“The car was absolutely awesome tonight. It was definitely one of the best I’ve ever had out here” Boston said. “I can’t thank my car owners, the Bowers, enough for the great equipment that they give me week in and week out. They are the greatest” he finished.

You won’t want to miss next SUNDAY’s racing as Eagle’s Points Championships are decided on the final night of racing. Jack Daniels and The Brew will be presenting the Season Finale and Man Cave Night and the racing will be fast and furious. During intermission, the Re-start raffle pace car giveaway will take place. Who will be the lucky winner? Also after the features will be the first Tennessee Shuffle race. It only happens here at Eagle Raceway…America’s Home Track!

Also we want to be sure that everyone comes to Eagle Raceway’s Finest on SUNDAY, September 7th. The Nebraska Cup event will feature the ASCS 360 Sprint Cars, the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks and the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts. RISING CITY, Neb. (August 22, 2008) - The sun came out at Butler County Motorplex for the last night of the regular season. Bob Zoubek grabbed the lead in the first of three IMCA Modified heat races. Zoubek continued for the win as he turned in the best average lap speed of the night at 80.78 miles per hour during the heat race. Tom Svoboda was second, Chris Alcorn third and Michael Densberger fourth. Chevy Hadan won the second heat race with Terry Richards, Scott Bivens and Adrian Hein Jr. rounding out the top four. Stacy Wilhelm led the first lap of the third heat before Dylan Smith took control and went on to victory. Ryan Fjell was second, Jeremy Leiting third and Tom Lenz was fourth. The winners of each heat in all classes won free registration for next year at the Motorplex.

Garrett Rech grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Sport Compact heat race. Dan Rhiley moved into the front position on lap two and continued for the win. Rech was second followed by Jeremy Noonan and Mike Simpson.

Shane Hiatt controlled the first heat in the IMCA Hobby Stock division with the win. Dusty Poessnecker was second, Kyle Hein third and Quinten Spragg fourth. Duane Schroeder led the entire distance in heat number two. Nick Beckman managed to finish second with Jerry Keaton third and Tiffany Bittner was fourth.

Rod Bronson led from green to checkered flag in the first of two IMCA Sport Mod heat races. Max Harder finished second even though he had fast time in the race with a best lap average speed of 76.121 miles per hour. Steve Swarthout was third and Kevin Kloke fourth. Kyle Pacena led the distance in heat number two with a best of 76.574 miles per hour average lap speed. Mike Brown finished second with Ron Allen third and Brandon Jessen fourth.

The IMCA Sport Compact feature found Garret Rech taking the early lead in the race. Mike Simpson took the lead on lap three and continued his lead until the final lap as Jeremy Noonan took the front position and got the win. Noonan had the fastest lap in the race at 68.254 miles per hour. Mike Simpson held on for second with Dan Rhiley third and Jason Miller fourth.

Chevy Hadan jumped into the lead of the IMCA Modified feature. Chris Alcorn took the lead on lap three and continued his lead for the win as he worked his way through lap traffic. Chey Hadan held on for second as Bob Zoubek moved up to take third and Tom Svoboda was fourth.

Quinten Spragg took the early lead in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature race. Spragg continued his lead until lap thirteen as Shane Hiatt took the front position. Nick Topil was second, Dusty Poessnecker third and Jerry Keaton edged out Dan Kresha for fourth.

A special “Exhibition Race” was held after all A features were finished. The top six IMCA Sport Mods and the top six IMCA Modifieds had a ten lap race. The Sport Mods started in the front three rows and the IMCA Mods in the next tree rows. Sport Mod driver Max Harder grabbed the lead as the race began. Bob Zoubek moved into second place on lap number five but had a lot of distance to make up in order to catch Harder who had stretched his lead. Zoubek manged to take the lead during the final lap for the win. Each driver in the race received equal pay to help offset their cost of fuel for being cooperative and participating in this fun race.

The final races of the night were mechanics races for each division. Jerry Keaton drove the Sport Mod of Ron Allen in the Modified mechanics race and won. A mystery driver won in the Sport Mod mechanics race driving the number 2 of Mike Brown. The Sport Compact mechanics race was won by Todd Sanford driving the 33 of Jeremy Noonan. Dan Kresha demonstrated how to race as he drove son Brandon’s Hobby Stock to victory lane.

Special thanks to all fans and drivers who supported Jacy and Paula Todd for the racing season this year. They hope you will join them on September 5th for the ASCS 360 Sprint Car races. The program will include the GOTRA’s and Vintage Lites as a part of the total program for the night.

Darland Collects Fist Full of Sprint Bandits TNT Dollars in Husker Nationals

Lonnie Wheatley, GREENWOOD, Neb. (August 12, 2008) – For the second year in a row, Indiana's Dave Darland left Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway with a fist full of two-dollar bills.

Two thousand of them to be exact, as he collected the $4,000 winner's share by topping the second round of the Fourth Annual O'Reilly Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless Midwest Swing in Tuesday night's 30-lap Husker Nationals main event.

Darland fought off Brady Bacon much of the way, then survived a late restart to take the checkered flag in front of Damion Gardner, Robert Ballou, 13th-starter Darren Hagen and Charles Davis, Jr.

Darland did more than "survive" the final caution that set up a three-lap dash to the checkered flag, as he checked out to take the checkered flag aboard Scott Benic's Gaerte-powered RWB No. 2b Maxim with a 0.852-second advantage to claim Husker Nationals honors for the second year in a row, delivering car owner Benic his sixth career TNT feature win in the process.

"That was a lot of fun," Darland exclaimed after his fifth overall victory in the past eight nights. "In one and two the top was the way to go, and in turns three and four the bottom was the quickest. I kept seeing a nose under me from time to time so I knew I had to keep hustling."

Darland earned the front row outside starting position for the main event, but it was Oklahoma's Brady Bacon outdueling Darland for the point on the opening round from the pole position in Mike and Megan Eubanks' Tel-Star Communications No. 99 Triple-X.

Bacon's lead was short-lived however, as Darland slid in front to take command upon the completion of the third lap. Darland was unable to shake Bacon though, with the young shoe keeping the pressure on as Gardner and Ballou battled for position close behind with Jesse Hockett next in the chase as the top five separated themselves from the field.

Working through heavy traffic, Darland cleared a group of cars on the 20th lap to break away from his chasers. And when the race's first caution flew on the 24th lap, Darland had already lapped up to ninth place and had a cushion of three lapped cars between himself and Bacon with another pair of lapped machines between Bacon and the battling duo of Ballou and Gardner.

As Darland took off on the restart, Bacon's mount stumbled and he pulled pitside moments later with fuel pickup problems.

On the move was Gardner, who blasted past Ballou and then cleared the five lapped cars before the red flag flew after 27 laps for Mike Leslie's turn four tumble. Leslie walked away uninjured.

While Gardner restarted on Darland's tailtank, he was no match this time as Darland breezed to victory lane. Gardner settled for runner-up honors in the Pace Lighting/Team ASE No. 71 Beast, with Ballou taking show honors in the MPHG Promotions No. 81 Maxim.

Darren Hagen raced from 13th to snare fourth in the Trucker's 24-Hour Road Service No. 10 DRC, with Charles Davis, Jr., climbing a handful of positions to round out the top five in Mark Swanson's No. 21s.

Casey Shuman crossed the stripe sixth, with Hockett, Cory Kruseman and Chris Windom the final cars on the lead lap. Gary Taylor climbed from 21st to complete the top ten.

Bret Mellenberndt, Darland and Shuman topped heat race action with Gardner, Ballou and Darland victorious in the qualifying races.

The Fourth Annual O'Reilly Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless Midwest Swing moves on to Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway on Wednesday night, with ensuing stops at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa (Thursday) and then Kansas City's Lakeside Speedway (Friday and Saturday).

Eagle July 12: Dover, Alcorn, Wulf and Rhiley Win Musical Mini's Night

By Greg Soukup

Eagle Raceway, “America’s Home Track”, had “Musical Mini’s Night” presented by Round the Bend Steakhouse tonight. Clear, sunny skies greeted the fans who showed up to see the night’s racing action. A shower Friday night and a sprinkle Saturday morning led to a very fast track. Lap times in the heats were close to the track records. The quick times were an omen for the fabulous action in the features later on.

In the preliminary events the only bad incident began after the green flag dropped for the Budweiser Championship 360 sprints. Mark Pace came past the flag stand and was forced high going into turn one. This resulted in Mark launching his #31 sprinter over the implement tire at the pit entrance. His race car came to a rest caught up in the catch fence. Mark not only wasn’t hurt, he bowed to the fans after exiting his car as a thank you for the applause from the stands.

The first A Feature showcased the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts. First back to the start/finish line was the #5 of Larry Cronin with Matt Moyer’s #29 in second, the #72 of Ben Simpson and Garret Rech’s 55. Maynard Kinnersley moved past Rech on the second lap in his #18. Cronin’s lead was short-lived however as he rolled his car in turns 1 & 2 on the third lap. This put Moyer into the lead with Rech in second, Kinnersley in third and the #31 of Chris LaChapelle’s #31 in fourth. It took only 2 more laps for Dan Rhiley to bring his #2 up to the third spot and then into first on the next circuit. Simpson followed Rhiley into second and Kinnersley advanced to third on the same lap. There was a stoppage on lap #8 when Joey Danley lost his right front tire in turn two. The running order stayed the same until with just three laps left LaChapelle got around Kinnersley for third. On the very last lap Simpson advanced all the way to second.

“Well, the birthday boy won tonight” Rhiley said. “The Honda ran really great tonight, but it has been. This is my third win in a row so far this week. I want the fans to wish me luck tomorrow night. I fell a little behind in national championship points this week, but I’m trying to make a charge” he continued. “I need to send out a special thanks to ‘Big Joe’ at 2 Men and a Shop. He makes this thing run when I can’t” he finished. Dan’s sponsors include Ray’s Quality Towing, Max I Walker, 2 Men & a Shop and R & M Roll Cages.

Next was the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Rick Bradley held the lead at the end of the first lap in his #28B with Eric Hanson’s 33, Nick Beckman’s 22 and the 14 of Ron Novak close on his heels. Beckman got around Hanson on lap #2 for second but was passed the next lap by Don Hall Jr. in the #92. Hall then moved past Bradley on the next lap with Justin Wulf moving up to second in the #86 and Beckman in third. With 5 laps in the books, Jerry Keaton moved his #3K under Beckman to take the third spot. The very next lap Wulf got past Hall Jr. to grab the lead. Wulf then began to pull away from the field, but a red flag came out with 2 laps left when Shane Hiatt’s #21H had an engine fire as he exited into the pits. At the finish it was Wulf, Keaton, Beckman and Hall Jr.

Justin said “The track was really good tonight. It turned slick just the way I like it for the feature”. “It was a great win for us, but getting claimed kind of ruined it” he continued. “I want to say thank you a lot to Napa for adding the purse money, and a special thank you to my grandpa for letting me use his shop to work on the car” Justin finished. Justin’s sponsors include J & J Grading, Renegade Seeding, Ken’s Smoke House, Traeger Grills, Team G Spot and Wulf & Sons Farms.

The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds then came out for the A Main. Scott Bivens’ S56 was in first at the end of the first lap. Close behind him were the #22J of Justin Jurgens, Doug Deterding’s 13 and Aaron Pella’s 3A. Jurgens got loose going into turns 3 & 4 on the second lap and was tapped by Deterding which resulted in him spinning in front of the remainder of the field. A huge pile-up ensued with Pella having to take his racer to the pits for repairs. On the restart Chris Alcorn advanced all the way to the third spot in his #3. On lap 7 Deterding overtook Bivens for the lead. Alcorn also got around Bivens on the ensuing lap to take second. It took Chris only 1 more lap to pass Deterding for the lead. With 14 to go Rik Gropp moved his #V45 into the third spot past Bivens. Four laps later Stacey Wilhelm also passed Bivens to take over fourth position. From there to the finish it was a fantastic back and forth battle between Deterding and Alcorn, with Deterding drawing alongside numerous times. But at the finish line Alcorn managed to hold off Deterding for the win.

“It’s good to be back in the winner’s circle. It’s been quite awhile. But, we’ve found the way to win again this week it seems. We won at US-30 on Thursday, Butler County last night and now at Eagle tonight. I’ve never done that before; I’ve gotten two in a row, but never three” Chris stated. “It was a lot of fun racing tonight, especially side-by-side with Doug for the lead” he said. Chris’ sponsors include Independent Equipment, Heavy Company, Midwest Unlimited, Spanel Racing Engines and Onyx Digital Group.

The last feature race of the evening was for the Budweiser Championship 360 sprint cars. Nick Bryan took advantage of his starting position on the pole to lead the first lap in his #6. Behind him were the #3 of Jeff Griffis, Kevin Danley’s 7X and the 82 of Jason Danley. A nasty flip by Frank Galusha’s 24B in turn #4 brought out the red flag however. On the restart Jason Danley overtook Kevin Danley to snag third. The next lap Griffis got around Bryan for the lead. After the cars passed the start/finish line Jay Russell spun his 76 sprinter between turns 1 and 2, resulting in the yellow flag being thrown. On the restart Jason Danley and Jack Dover’s #53 both got around Bryan to snag the second, third and fourth spots. On lap 4 Jason Danley moved past Griffis to take the lead away with Dover following him into second on the next lap. That same lap Gene Acklund advanced into the fourth spot behind Griffis. Dover managed to use the high side to grab the lead the next time around, but Bryan and Acklund got together causing another yellow flag situation. On the restart Mike Boston advanced his #51 to third and Josh Riggins followed him into fourth. The next caution period was a result of Toby Chapman spinning the #32X in turns 1 and 2 with 12 laps down. As the field came around on the restart Adam Gullion’s 96KX and Griffis’ 3 made contact in turn three, bringing out an open red flag period as the track was nearly blocked. Dover used a slide job coming out of turn four with 11 laps remaining to snare the lead. 6 laps later Boston also got past Jason Danley to take over second. From there to the finish it was a terrific fight between Boston and Dover as they began to encounter lapped traffic, with Dover coming home first.

“The car was just alright before the second red flag. We switched shocks and from there on the car was almost perfect” Dover said. “This was a good tune-up for next week’s ASCS race out here at Eagle. I really wanted to follow the ASCS national tour this week, but 9 days straight on the road just isn’t something we can do right now. I promised my dad that if we stayed home and raced here tonight, that I’d win” he finished. Dover’s sponsors include 3 D Auto Transport Inc., RMS, Trail Performance Powder Coating, Thorpes Auto Body, Eckley Racing Engines, Eagle Chassis, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, ATV Motorsports, Speedway Motors, Bell Racing, Butler Built Professional Seat Systems, Design 500 Racewear, FK Rod Ends, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, CMET Excavating, NOS Energy Drink and BA Photos.

Don’t forget that this coming Thursday, July 17th Eagle Raceway will have the first ever Nebraska appearance of the Bootlegger’s Run Race of Champions. NASCAR stars Ken Schrader, Matt Kenseth, Sterling Marlin and Clint Bowyer will run two 8 lap races in their late models. Kenseth and Schrader will also bring along their modifieds to try and beat the locals. Details and ticket information are available under the schedule tab to the left.

Next Saturday, Jack Daniels and The Eagle 92.9 will present the ASCS North-South Sprint Showdown and Man Cave Night. Also on the card will be the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks and the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts.

Two for Two: Dollansky Wraps Up Weekend Sweep with a Win in the Eagle Nationals

From the World of Outlaws

Craig Dollansky felt like he let a win slip away on Wednesday night at
Sedalia's State Fair Speedway while leading in traffic, and he made sure
history did not repeat itself as he held off Steve Kinser in heavy traffic
to win the Eagle Nationals at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska on Saturday night.

Dollansky started on the pole and dropped back to second behind Kinser at
the start, but dove under Kinser exiting the fourth turn on the fifth lap to
make the pass for the lead and ultimately the win. It was Dollansky's second
consecutive A-Feature win and his fourth on the season. It was also his
second straight win driving a specially painted Snap-on Tool Maxim.

"It was a great night," said the winner, who earned $10,000 for the 25th
A-Feature win of his World of Outlaws career. "I am very happy for Larry
Woodward and everyone that stands behind this race team. The crew worked
hard as always and I am very proud of them. We had a great Maxim race car
tonight with Charlie Garrett power."

Lapped traffic was the story on Saturday night, as the event went 40 laps
non-stop in nine minutes and 23 seconds on the high-banked 1/3-mile. A
number of times over the course of the race, Dollansky pulled away from
Kinser, as he was able to slice his way through the slower machines,
eventually lapping all but the Top-Eight finishers.

"Typically you don't see that happen very often, but that puts on a good
show for the fans when you can keep going," said the native of Elk River,
Minnesota. "We didn't get the lead at the start of the race and we had to
work our way past Steve (Kinser) and the Snap-on car was working well
tonight. We kept working on it all night and tried to keep up with the race
track."

At the drop of the green, Kinser got the jump and charged into the first
turn. He would lead the first three laps, before Dollansky took the lead
just before the pair first encountered traffic. Dollansky was held up a
couple of times in heavy traffic, but each time was able to clear the slower
machines before Kinser was able to close in on him.

"Lapped traffic definitely made some things happen tonight," he reiterated.
"Going 40-laps non-stop stirs some things up. The car felt real good in
traffic. I felt like I had the car I needed in traffic to drive it a little
harder. Lapped traffic can make or break and tonight we were operating
through it pretty well."

In addition to battling traffic for the duration of the event, the drivers
also had their hands full with the racing surface at Eagle Raceway which
continued to change throughout the 40-lap contest. Dollansky was able to
negotiate the track early in the race, as he turned the fastest lap of any
of the competitors on the second circuit and then set a blistering pace once
in the lead.

"The cushion was inconsistent and that's a good thing," explained Dollansky.
"That makes you have to navigate it and everyone can't just follow the same
line around the race track. Each corner has different characteristics. My
hat is off to SLS (Promotions) and Eagle Raceway for the job they did
preparing this track for all the fans that came out."

After a busy stretch that saw the World of Outlaws compete six times over
the last nine days, Dollansky is pleased with the direction of his team, as
they will receive a much deserved break this week. He is currently third in
points on the strength of 19 Top-10 finishes in 20 starts this season.

"We were plagued a little bit with some issues with our motor program, and
we are definitely working toward getting that sorted out," he noted. "You
have to be strong every night and work hard all year long. We just keep
focus on winning races and keep ourselves in this hunt in the championship
chase."

Kinser led the A-Feature early on Saturday night and wound up second in the
Q Oil Maxim, after his team changed engines after a runner-up finish in the
Crane Cams Dash. On the opening lap of the A-Feature he dove under Dollansky
entering the first turn to lead.

"I got the gear a little bit high, but we had some motor problems in the
dash and I went ahead and stuck a higher gear it in," said the 20-time World
of Outlaws champion. "I don't know if it would have helped me or not. I got
the rolling around a little bit better, but it was flopping around some.
We're learning a little bit and just have to keep running and hopefully
we'll get these cars working a little better."

Kinser was able to close on Dollansky in open race track a number of times,
but got bottled in traffic nearly every time he got close to him. He used a
couple of different lines during the race as he tried to track down
Dollansky.

"I would catch him a little bit and then he would get away from me," shared
the native of Bloomington, Indiana. "It depended on how we caught lapped
traffic. It was back and forth. I was down on the bottom of one and two and
he slid up high early in the race and I let him get a run on me. I shouldn't
have done that. He was running pretty good and may have gotten by me
anyway."

Kinser, who has won 24 times at Eagle Raceway in his career, was not
surprised to see the race go green-to-checker non-stop. It was the seventh
consecutive race that has featured a large amount of traffic which
ultimately had played into the outcome of those events.

"With the caliber of cars we had in the race, it was not surprising," he
added. "You have strong cars out here right now and there were 24 good cars
tonight. Most of them are capable of winning a race."

Jason Meyers picked up his second consecutive third-place finish as he
earned the final podium position on Saturday night. The native of Clovis,
California leads the series with 17 Top-Five finishes in 20 starts driving
the GLR Investments KPC. He closed on Kinser a couple of times in traffic,
but could never get even with him to attempt a pass.

"It's another Top-Five finish and we have to keep putting those up on the
board," said Meyers. "It was a technical race track tonight. A good race
track, but just really tough to get a run on people. We just couldn't quite
get enough to get a run on the guys. We would close up on them in traffic
and it was tough to get a run on anyone tonight."

Donny Schatz finished fourth aboard the Armor All J&J for Tony Stewart
Racing, as he continues to chase his third consecutive series title. He
remains the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in every event this
season. He holds a 43-point advantage over Meyers in the championship
standings. He began the night by turning the fastest lap in time trials,
which earned him five bonus points.

"We qualified well and got ourselves up there in the heat to get in the
dash," said Schatz. "I totally misjudged the race track in what it was going
to do. I didn't expect it to stay fast on the top like that and it did. We
banked on our race car being able to move off it and I just couldn't get it
to turn for 40 laps. It was a handful. When you have nights like that, and
we don't have them very often, you just have to look at it as being done and
move on."

Shane Stewart finished fifth in the Roth Motorsports KPC to earn his eighth
Top-Five finish of the season.

Joey Saldana was sixth in the Budweiser/Open Joist Mopar-powered JEI, with
Jac Haudenschild in seventh aboard the Owens Corning Fiberglass Maxim. Terry
McCarl was eighth driving the Big Game Treestands Eagle, with Sam Hafertepe
Jr. in ninth in the G.H. Plumbing J&J. Kerry Madsen rounded out the Top-10
driving the TK Concrete Maxim.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action
on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 in the Boot Hill Showdown at Dodge
City Raceway Park in Kansas.

Dollansky and Alcorn Big Winners of Eagle Nationals

By Greg Soukup

The Eagle Nationals featuring the "Greatest Show on Dirt", The Advanced Auto
Parts World of Outlaws and the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds was held
Saturday under sunny skies and warm temperatures. A crowd estimated at 5000
witnessed fast and furious action throughout the event.

Donny Schatz managed to put up the quick time of the evening in the Parker
Stores #15, posting a lap of 11.235 seconds. Joining Schatz in the top 5 of
qualifying efforts were Jac Haudenschild's #R19 with a 11.254 second effort,
Jason Meyers' 14 with a 11.262 run, the #15H of Sam Hafertape Jr. with a
11.293 and Terry McCarl in the #24 who's best lap was a 11.300.

The heats in both classes were run in quick order with no incidents.

The Crane Cams Dash, which sets the lineup for the front rows of the
Advanced Auto Parts World of Outlaws feature saw Craig Dollansky first, with
Steve Kinser in second, Jason Meyers in third and Donny Schatz in fourth.

The first feature event was for the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds.
Dave Jewitt's #4M crossed the start/finish line with the lead at the end of
the first lap. Close behind him were the 0 of Jim Krupicka, the 3W of Stacey
Wilhelm and Bob Ruisinger's #7. Chad Anderson moved his #8C into the fourth
spot on lap 6, passing Ruisinger on the outside. On the very next lap
Anderson got around both Wilhelm and Krupicka to garner 2nd with Dylan Smith
following him into third in his #95. Shortly thereafter, Krupicka ran
through the infield coming out of turn #1 and began to drop back in the
pack. It took only 13 laps for two-time defending track champion Chris
Alcorn to advance from his starting spot outside of the 9th row to fourth,
passing Rik Gropp who had taken the spot earlier. A yellow flag came out
that same lap however, allowing Gropp to move back up. On the restart, Smith
snared the second spot from Anderson and then moved around Jewitt for the
lead. On the next circuit, Gropp moved into the third position, followed by
Alcorn who advanced once again to fourth. With 6 laps left in the event,
Gropp took over the lead and Alcorn advanced to third. 2 laps later Smith
retook the point and Gropp was also passed by Alcorn. From there it was a
fierce battle between Alcorn and Smith to see who would come out on top.
Alcorn made numerous attempts to get around Smith on the low side, but
couldn't quite make the pass stick. Finally, coming out of the last turn of
the last lap Alcorn succeeded in taking the lead on the high side.

"The track was pretty darned good tonight. And it was great racing with
Dylan. I knew he wouldn't do anything like take my line away. It's always
good to know that you're battling with a good, clean racer like Dylan"
Alcorn said.

Alcorn's sponsors include Independent Equipment, ATH Motorsports, Midwest
Unlimited, Heavy Company, Spanel Engines and Onyx Digital Group.

Finally the main event of the evening's festivities arrived. After the
Outlaws' signature 4-wide salute to the fans it was time for the Advanced
Auto Parts World of Outlaws A Main event.

Steve Kinser's #11 got to the point first followed by the #2 of Dollansky,
Jason Meyers in the 14, and Donny Shatz's 15. The lead remained unchanged
until lap 5 when Dollansky pulled a slide job to take the lead away from
Kinser as they began to encounter lapped traffic. From there until the
checkered flag Dollansky was challenged several times by Kinser, but
maintained his lead. Although the entire feature was run in just over 8
minutes, the crowd got more than their money's worth with fast-paced action
the whole race. At the checkered flag, the top four were a repeat of the
Crane Cams Dash. Dollansky took the win with Kinser, Meyers and Schatz
behind him.

"This was a really well-prepared track tonight, and that's the way we like
it. I love coming to Eagle, especially when we can win back-to-back like
this" Dollansky stated. "When you have a great track like this, you can do
lots of things, try different lines, pass all over the track" Dollansky
stated. "This was a great win for the Larry Woodward Racing team. We've been
putting out a great team effort lately, and it shows in the results" he
finished.

Dollansky's sponsors include Snap-On, Karavan Trailers and Auto Value Parts
Stores,

Be sure to come out next Saturday when Isles Pub and Pizza and the Kat
present Givin' Back Night, featuring the Budweiser 360 Championship Sprints,
the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks
and the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts.

Boston Wins Eagle's Backrow Challenge

Anderson, Miller, Prall winners on gorgeous night

By Greg Soukup

The Back Row Challenge, presented by the Blaze and Jack Daniels saw the track records in jeopardy for most of the evening. The cool evening and fast track gave the crowd exciting action all night.

The only serious incident of the card occurred in the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock B Feature when Troy Mencke rolled his #4 Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock several times. Mencke and 2 other racers went into the corner three wide and the ensuing contact caused Mencke to come to a rest on his top. Mencke was uninjured, but was unable to continue racing.

The Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Main #1 saw the #55 of Garrett Rech in the lead, followed by the #4 of David Tadlock and Matt Moyer’s #29. Justin Busboom lost the steering in his #62 and attempted to pull off the track but came to a rest on the berm, bringing out the yellow flag. Shortly after that, Tadlock began to drop back through the field and Moyer moved around Rech to take the point. Ron Frank advanced to the third spot in his 18R with Jack Prall IV’s #44 behind him. With just 6 laps left Prall IV got around Frank to take third with his son, Jack Prall IV following him into fourth. 2 laps later Rech slowed and Prall III overtook him for the lead. 2 laps were left in the race when Prall IV advanced to the second position. As they came out of turn 4 to the checkers Prall IV moved to the high line and passed his father for the win.

“Honestly, after last week, I was just glad the car didn’t catch on fire again” Prall IV said. “I want to give a really big thanks to the Eagle Fire and Rescue squad for saving my car. I also need to thank my dad for giving me the car, because without him doing that, I wouldn’t be able to race” he continued. “Getting around my dad tonight was the most fun I’ve had racing. I really had to work for it, but I forgive him” he finished. Prall IV’s sponsors include Beaver Lake Marina, Jay Spencer of Innovative Vinyl Designs, Cut Rite Services and Peterson Trailers.

In the second Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Feature Mike Rice’s #24 moved to the point after the first lap with Jason Miller’s 77 in second, the #6 of Roger Elliot in third and Maynard Kinnersley’s 18 in fourth. Kinnersley took only 2 laps to advance to third with Chris LaChappelle’s 31 taking over the fourth spot. On the very next lap Miller got inside of Rice to snag the lead. Rice retired 4 laps later, moving Kinnersley to 2nd, LaChapelle to third and the #21 of Jake Sells to the fourth spot. Hard and tight racing continued throughout the rest of the contest with LaChapelle, Sells and the #29 of Matt Moyer going three wide at times for the third position. Only three laps were left when a caution was thrown for debris on the racing surface. Again a last lap pass for position was made as Sells got past LaChapelle for the third spot.

“It was a really good track tonight. I tried all sorts of different lines, and no matter where I went the car ran great” Miller said. “I finally managed to figure out the invert for the feature races, and that helped a lot” he continued. “I need to give a huge thank you to Bushwhackers. They and my other sponsors make it possible to be out here each week. Without Exhaust Pros, Three Points electric, Advanced Drywall, Moss Racing, Ambassador Home Improvement, RM Roll Cages, Union Jack Screen Printing and 2 Men & A Shop I wouldn’t be able to race at all” he finished.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks were the next feature event. Don Hall Jr. attempted to duplicate last week’s win by going to the point in his #92. Hall was followed by the #98 of Daniel Jackson, the 22 of Nick Beckman and Rick Munson in the M70. There was a yellow flag for debris on lap two, slowing the action momentarily.

On the restart, Beckman got under Jackson, making contact, and Jackson ended up leaving the racing surface. By lap 3, Kevin Anderson had advanced his #22 all the way to second after having started 12th, with Munson close on his heels in third. Four laps later Beckman got squirrelly, allowing the 1R of RJ Macku to take over the fourth position. Anderson got past Hall Jr. on lap #8. The next lap, Macku moved into the third slot. On the 12th circuit, defending track champion Justin Wulf moved his #86 past Macku for third. The positions remained unchanged to the finish with Anderson winning, Hall Jr. in the runner-up spot, Wulf in third and Macku in fourth.

“It was a great track tonight. And, we did something right tonight….but I won’t say what it was because it’s top secret” Anderson joked. “I love racing out here. This class has a bunch of great guys and good, clean racers” he finished. Anderson’s sponsors include Lincoln Lawn Guys, The Garage Sports Bar and Grill and The Auto Connection.

The last A Feature saw the Budweiser 360 Championship Sprints move onto Eagle’s high banks for the Back Row Challenge. Chris Roseland had drawn the #1 chip, giving him the pole position, but when offered the opportunity to start dead last for a possibility of winning another $1000 for coming home first, he quickly accepted.

Gene Acklund’s 14G came back to the start/finish line with the lead with Jason Danley’s #82 in second, the 51 of Mike Boston in third and Jack Dover’s 53 in fourth. The racing was halted on lap #2 when Frank Galusha flipped his sprinter in turns 1 and 2. Galusha was uninjured. On the restart Boston moved into second with the #91 of Brad Krutz following him to take over third with Dover holding onto fourth. Lap #4 saw Boston get around Acklund for the lead. Dover moved into third, only to be repassed by Krutz.

With 15 laps to go Bobby Becker took a nasty ride in turn four. As Dover came upon the scene he attempted to brake and miss Becker but ended up snapping the car to the right, contacting the wall in turn four and doing a gentle rollover himself. He was towed to the work area where his crew was able to make repairs to the car and allow him to get back onto the track as the race went back to green. Unfortunately the restart saw Danley and the #44 driven by Larry Pinegar II get together and come to a halt, bringing out yet another yellow flag. On the restart Roseland moved into fourth position, within sight of the victory. It took him only 3 more laps to take over third, and 2 laps later he got into second.

With 10 laps to go, the planned red flag was thrown, allowing the crews to make adjustments to the sprinters. Roseland was forced to settle for the runner-up spot as he was unable to get around Boston who was, at times running within 2/10ths of his own track record. At the end of the race it was Boston winning, Roseland in second, Krutz in third and Dover up to fourth.

When asked if he was glad that Roseland had taken the Back Row Challenge, Boston said “Heck no. I wish I could have gotten to do it. Chris had his chance when we restarted with 10 to go, but we were just faster tonight” Boston stated. “The car was just awesome all night. It was so good we barely made any changes the whole program” he continued. “I need to thank Rich and Michele Bowers, my car owners. They give me a great car every week,” he finished.

Boston’s sponsors include Select Auto, Select Auto Body, Eckley Racing Engines, Rains Hardwood Floors and Moock Trucking.

Eagle Raceway: Becker, Jurgens, Hall, Rice and Busboom Soak up the Track!

By Greg Soukup

EAGLE, Neb. (June 7, 2008) - The folks who decided to skip tonight’s racing due to the threatening weather missed a fantastic night of racing on the best track so far this year. Despite over 4 inches of rain on Thursday, Eagle’s track prep crew hit another home run thanks to numerous hours of work during the week. Although no track lap records were broken, times closely approaching them were run throughout the evening. The fast track also led to all of the A Features being won by drivers snagging their first regular season victories.

In the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Feature #1 Mike Rice took the point in his #24 with the #45 of Jack Prall IV in second, the 5 of Larry Cronin in third and Jeremy Noonan’s #33 in fourth. It took last week’s feature winner Dan Rhiley only 3 laps to advance into the 5th spot, and he then got around Cronin for fourth on the ensuing lap. Lap 5 saw Jack Prall III’s #44 move up to 5th, but he was then passed by the 77 of Jason Miller on lap 6. Three laps later, Miller moved around Cronin for fourth. By lap 10 Rice had all but checked out, but the racing was fast & furious behind him. On lap 13 Rhiley got under Prall IV in traffic, followed by Miller. The checkered flag saw Rice first by a wide margin, with Rhiley, Prall IV, Miller and Prall III battling to the very end. As Prall IV came out of turn #4 on the cool-down lap the rear of his race car was enveloped in flames that were quickly extinguished by Eagle’s wonderful Fire & Rescue crew.

Mike Rice’s comments were similar to all of this evening’s winners, in that he was thrilled to have finally gotten a victory. “Roger and the crew did one heck of a job prepping the track this week, considering all of the rain we had. It was nice and smooth, and that made all of the difference this week” he stated. “I’ve only been racing for 2 years now, and to win at Eagle is really sweet” he continued. “I want to thank my pit crew, who are my Dad Dan and Greg Winningham; and a big thanks to Scott Bumgardner for selling me this car” he finished. Mike’s sponsors include Big Dan’s Auto Body & Paint, Low Budget Customs Chassis and Graphics, KFC & Long John Silver’s, The Naked Canvas, Body Art Studio, The Car Wash, Fliechman Farms, Pro Power Washing, M & M Construction and Auggie’s Performance Shop.

Joey Danley’s #14 lead the way at the end of the first lap of the action-packed second Sport Compact A Main, followed by Brian Haller’s #T32, the 22 of Elliot Halvorsen and Chris LaChappelle in the #31. On the second circuit Ben Simpson shot his #72 into the second position from 5th. At that time the running order was 14, 72, 31 and the 51 of Amanda Rhiley who had advanced into fourth. The action continued with passes on nearly every lap among the top 5 spots. LaChappelle got into 2nd on lap 3 and Simpson advanced to first on the next lap. The next lap saw Amanda get up to the second position followed by the #62 of Justin Busboom in third. Two laps later, Busboom moved to second behind Simpson with LaChapelle in third and Rhiley in fourth. With just 4 laps remaining Danley got around Rhiley for 4th, only to have her pass him back later in the lap to retake fourth position.

Busboom began his interview by joking that “My wife says my biggest challenge in winning is just getting into the car every ”. “Even though I managed to win the Icebreaker Challenge this year, this is my first regular season win ever. I want to thank Roger and the crew for all of their hard work and the great job they did, giving us such a fantastic track tonight. I also want to give special thanks to my mother and father, I just wish he could have been here to see this” he finished.

Busboom’s sponsors include Reddick Plumbing, Mobile Soda Blasting, All Care and JCM Electric.

Next up was the Valentino’s MICA Hobby Stocks. Don Hall Jr. led the pack back to the start/finish line with the 9ER of Charlie Bartels, Derick Noonan’s #21 and the 12 of Dan Noonan in hot pursuit. On lap #2 Lee Kracht got around Dan Noonan to grab fourth and then pressured Derick Noonan into bobbling, allowing Kracht to move into third. Four laps later Derick shot past both Kracht and Bartels to take over second, followed by Kracht who moved back into the third spot. Kevin Anderson advanced to the fourth position on lap 11 in his #22K. Derick Noonan got loose on the very last lap, allowing Kracht to take over the second spot. At the finish it was Hall Jr., Kracht, Derick Noonan, Anderson and the #38C of Casey Moyer in fifth.

“I have to credit my starting position for the win tonight. All it took was to hit my marks, miss the ruts in turn 1, stay in the lead and not get airborne by hitting the tires in the infield” Hall Jr. said. “The track was so tacky and fast all night that it was a pretty smooth race, and it helped that we went Green/White/Checkers” he continued. “I need to send a big thank you out to my wife, my daughters, my father Don Hall Sr. and all of my friends and crew. They make it a lot of fun to come out to Eagle and race every week” he finished. Don’s sponsors include Techmasters, Fred’s Auto Electric, Ogden Insurance, Moon Light Ranch, Matt and Amy Stephens, J & M Technologies, AA Precision Pressure Washing and Bob’s Auto Body.

The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds took to Eagle’s high banks next for their feature race. Bob Ruisinger’s #7 grabbed the early lead, followed by Dan Wayman in the 5ST, Ed “Doc” Raines in the 11AA and Justin Jurgens in the 22J. On the second lap Wayman, Raines and Jurgens all passed Ruisinger, relegating him to the fourth position. Two laps later Jurgens moved into first, followed by Raines for second on the next lap. By lap 6, Dylan Smith had moved all the way up to the third position. With 8 laps left Rik Gropp got around Smith to take the third position with Chevy Hadan moving his #4 around Gropp for third with just 3 circuits remaining. The finishing order was Jurgens, Raines, Hadan and the #3 of Chris Alcorn.

“This is my second year at Eagle, and finally my first win in an ‘A Mod’. I started out racing mini-sprints for four years, and then 1 year in an ‘E Mod’ before moving up last year out here” Justin said. “It was so nice to finally get over the bad luck we’ve had all year. We made some really big changes on the car after a lot of discussion and planning this week, and they paid off in a big way” he continued. When asked about tonight’s track conditions, Jurgens stated “All I can say is that it was BAD FAST!!! Roger and everyone did a whale of a job, and thankfully we avoided the rain.” “I need to thank my Dad Jim, Cory Jensen, my sister Ashlea and Dan for all of their help. I also need to send out a special thanks to Lorene Fielder and Ray & Sue Parde” he finished. Justin’s sponsors include Tobe’s clock Repair, Plymouth Industries, Rollarena Skate Center, Carriage Motors and Midwest Livestock.

Last on the evening’s card was the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprints. Brad Wright’s #27, Bobby Becker Jr.’s #8B and the 23 of Terry Holliman were first at the completion of the first lap. The yellow flag flew on lap #3 when Josh Riggins hooked a rut in turns 1 # 2, flipping his #14 sprinter. On the restart, Becker got around Wright, only to have the pass negated when Trevor Grossenbacher spun and made contact with the back stretch wall forcing yet another restart. It took 2-time defending track champion Mike Boston 5 more laps before he could advance into the third position behind Becker. On the next lap, Becker got around Wright to take a lead he never relinquished. Boston pressured him continuously after moving into the second spot on lap 11, with Holliman retaking third on the same lap. Despite several valiant efforts, Becker held off Boston to grab the victory.

“Last year the Lincoln Journal/Star did a story about Jeff Griffis and I and how we’d been racing forever out here at Eagle. I ran 1 year of IMCA sprints at I-80 in 1999 before coming here in 2000. I just never left I guess” Becker said. “My car ran really great tonight, although I almost lost the header in my heat race. Honestly, I was so squirrelly at times I think Mike was just afraid to pass me” Becker joked. “Before that last restart, I think I was kind of dozing off, but when Mike hit me from behind that woke me up and I just took off” he continued. “I want to thank my 2 sons, Jason and Kevin, Brian, Larry, Mike Jorgenson and Skip Smith. My boys have been pushing me so much the last couple of years that I HAD to win. Now I’ll spend the next four weeks trying not to mess up and erase this great win” he finished. Becker’s sponsors include L.L. Motorsports, Dairy Queen, Egan Equipment Company, Steel Fabricators and most of all my wife Lyn.

Eagle Raceway Russell, Smith, Hiatt and Miller Win Season Opener

By Greg Soukup

After the first four attempts were spoiled by Mother Nature, Eagle Raceway’s regular season got off to a great start Saturday night as McDonald’s and 96KXsponsored McDonald’s Jr. Fan Club Night. A warm and windy afternoon set the stage for excitement as 165 cars signed into the pits. This lead to the great crowd being thrilled with 18 heat races and numerous feature events.

Heat races were problem free for the most part. The biggest exception being in the second Budweiser Championship 360 sprint heat race, where, on the second lap young Austin McCarl barrel-rolled down the backstretch after his left front wheel made contact with the right rear wheel of Mark Schmidt’s 9J. Thankfully Austin walked away from the incident, but his racing was over for the evening.

The A Features began when the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts took to Eagle’s high banks. Jason Miller grabbed the lead in his #77, followed by the 00 of Barry Kinnersley, the 62 of Justin Busboom and Jake Sells in the 21. It took Busboom only 8 laps to move around Kinnersley. The order remained the same to the finish.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks were next on the card. The 6A of Adam Armstrong was the leader at the end of the first lap with Shane Hiatt’s 21H and Kevin Anderson’s 22K close behind. On the 10th circuit, Armstrong spun in turn 2, handing the lead to Hiatt. At that time the running order was Hiatt, Anderson and Justin Wulf in the 86. The next lap saw Rob Brown roll his #42 in turn 4. From there to the finish, the front 3 racers were pressing each other at every opportunity. With 3 laps left, Anderson pulled alongside Hiatt. And on the checkered flag lap Anderson actually managed to move past Hiatt, only to be repassed in turn four coming to the finish line when Anderson bobbled. Anderson’s misstep also allowed the 22 of Nick Beckman to move around him, relegating Anderson to the third spot.

“I wasn’t sure I could get around Armstrong, until he went high in turn 2. I knew that the top was rough, and the bottom was good and tacky. So, I stayed low and that’s what allowed me to win” Hiatt said. Shane also said “I want to send out special thanks to the folks who help me out so much. Scott Bivens and Spyder Racecars built me an excellent car, and Jono’s Race Engines helped me put a great motor in it. I also need to thank my cousin Ryan, and Kloke for designing and painting the race car; and Design Shop for the graphics. Of course, I can’t forget my mom and dad; also Shawn, Nathan, Ryan, Kloke, TJ, Smitty, Mark Hiatt, Jim Sylvester, Darrin Adamy and Bill Steager”.

Shane’s sponsors include Benes Service, Knuth Farms (Brad, Dan and Richard), Scribs House Moving, Roger Want Trucking, Seward Electronics, Wieseman Diesel Repair, Kneaded Pampering, Spark Electric, Don’s Bar, Hildy Construction, Marquis Body Shop, Woolsey Electric, S & H Electric, Team G Spot, Spyder Race Cars, Design Shop, Jono’s Racing Engines and Mares Garage.

In the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, Dylan Smith nabbed the point in his #95 with the 7B of Chris Burk and Scott Bivens’ S56 in hot pursuit. On lap #4, Rik Gropp moved his V45 around Bivens bringing the 3A of Aaron Pella along. By the 9th lap, defending Modified Champion Chris Alcorn had advanced from his 6th row outside starting position to third; and a lap later passed Burk for 2nd. From there to the checkers it was a back-and-forth battle between Smith and Alcorn with Smith emerging victorious.

“I was watching the first 2 A Mains” Dylan said, “and I noticed that the Sport Compacts and Hobby Stocks tore the track up a little. So, we loosened up the car and it worked great”. “I managed to grab the lead early, and ran great until the last lap. I hit a rut, and couldn’t believe that Alcorn didn’t take advantage and pass me” he continued. “We were so close at the end. I’d pull away a little, and then he’d come back a little” he finished.

Dylan’s sponsors include Burke Show Cattle, Eckley Racing Engines, White Eagle, Phil’s Steak House, Cappy’s Bar and Grill, Marquardt Plumbing, Augustin Electric and Active Life Family Chiropractic.

The last A Feature was for the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprints. On the initial start, Chris Roseland spun his #32 in turn 1 bringing out the yellow. The 2nd attempt saw the 28 of Ken Klabunde flip in turn 1. The next try saw Larry Pinegar lose the right front wheel off of his #44. When the race finally began Jeff Griffis took off from the front row in his #3 sprinter, followed by the #77 of John Klabunde, Tige Jensen’s #71 and the #76 of Jay Russell. It took Russell only 1 lap to move around Jensen into third and just 1 more lap to take over second from Klabunde. Shortly thereafter, Jensen also passed Klabunde to move into third position. By this time, however, Griffis had pulled off to a straightaway lead. On lap #9, Brad Krutz got past Jensen for third. With just 8 circuits remaining, Griffis got caught behind a lapped car and Russell dove low in turn four to snare the top spot. After the leaders had completed the lap the #14 of Josh Riggins and the 24B of Frank Galusha tangled, bringing out the final yellow flag of the evening. On the restart, Krutz used a textbook slide-job in turns 1 & 2 to get in front of Griffis. The finish was Russell, Krutz and Griffis.

“This car was one that we put together after wrecking one at Lake Ozark Speedway 3 weeks ago. We had planned on using that car here at Eagle, but the rainouts forced us to run other tracks. We’ve run 5 times this year now, but there’s no place we’d rather race than right here at Eagle” Jay stated. “In case no one has noticed, I love a dry-slick racetrack and running the cushion. That’s what got me up to second, and carried me to the win after I took the lead” he continued. He finished by saying “I really don’t think I could have gotten around Jeff if it wasn’t for the traffic. He was running really great, and even pulling away a little”.

Jay’s sponsors include Meier’s Tree Service, Bar Graffix, Klein Motors & RV’s, Auto Tool & Paint, Hunt’s Car Care Center, Coacher’s Hot Rods & Muscle Cars, Outlaw Pit Products, Hank’s Performance Parts and Wulf Pumps.

Be sure to come out next weekend for the first Fan Appreciation Night of the season, presented by Mamasita’s Restaurante. Reduced admission, food and drink specials all night long and plenty of red hot racing action.

I-80: Close Battles in Caution-Filled Night

From Nebraska Raceway Park

Greenwood, NE (April 20, 2008) - A tired, but happy Travis Dickes (21t) took
the second feature win of the Spec Late Model Racing season at I-80 Speedway
after battling yellow flags and a rough track.

"I am worn out," Dickes said after his first SLMR feature win.

The race saw the 1x of Bo Egge taking the lead with Mike Collins (3) and
Kyle Berck (14) pulling up to battle for the top spot. Egge brought the
yellow out with 21 to go, giving Collins the lead. After another yellow,
Dickes took the lead with eleven to go. Berck tried to make a surge to the
front, but couldn't catch Dicke.

The Great Clips IMCA Modifieds had an exciting final five laps with Reese
Coffee (16) taking the lead from Chris Mills (00c) who went on to win the
race at the line by a bumper.

One of only two caution free feature races of the night, the Hobby Stock
division provided one of the most exciting finishes of the night. The 37d
of Brad Derry and the 78 of Shannon Anderson traded the leave several times
before mechanical problems caused the two to push up into each other coming
out of turn four on the final lap, allowing the 21h of Shane Hiatt to cruise
the bottom of the track and take the checkered flag.

The Sport Compacts also saw a caution free night as Pete Fink Jr. (13) took
the first win of the season.

Brent Baker (21x) took the win in the IMCA Crate Models, which saw a battle
for second between two brothers: the 92 of Jacob Brown and the 24x of Micah
Brown.
