ASCS Midwest - Brown Masters JMS Again
Brian Brown continued his mastery of the 3/8-mile Junction Motor Speedway by
racing to victory lane in Friday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series
Midwest Region feature event.
The victory aboard Tim and Gina Doogs' Wesmar-powered Super Clean No. 21
Maxim was Brown's tenth career ASCS Midwest Region score and marked the
third time in as many years that the Missouri racer has topped the series'
June event at Junction Motor Speedway.
After starting fourth, Brown took the lead from front row outside starter
Jay Russell on the third lap and led the rest of the way in the non-stop
affair, beating 18-year-old Jack Dover to the checkered flag.
Reigning ASCS Northern Plains Region champion Lee Grosz claimed the show
position after starting from the pole, with Russell and Mike Chadd rounding
out the top five.
Don Droud, Jr., was sixth, with Mike Boston, defending ASCS Midwest Region
champion Natalie Sather, Justin Henderson and Gregg Bakker completing the
top ten.
Droud, Dover and Grosz topped heat race action.

Eagle 6-28-08: Boston, Richards, Beckman and Rice Win Freedom Fest
Thanks to a couple of gifts of Mother Nature's 'Liquid Love' during the
week, coupled with cloudy skies and cooler than normal June temperatures,
Freedom Fest 2008 at "America's Home Track" Eagle Raceway was held on a very
tacky track which only got faster as the night wore on. The large crowd was
treated to fantastic racing all evening, topped by a fabulous fireworks
display celebrating those who serve us and our country daily.
After the balloon salute, the heat races in all classes went without a
hitch.
At intermission, Mike Cacak was notified that he would be receiving the
Gordie Shuck Award for Sportsmanship and his contribution to the racing
community over the years. As you know, Mike suffered critical injuries just
1 year ago this weekend but has returned to his duties at Eagle Raceway. The
formal presentation will be done at the Nebraska Racing Hall of Fame banquet
in October.
The first A Feature was for the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts. Joey
Danley took the lead in his #14 with Mike Rice's 24, Maynard Kinnersley's 18
and Mike Simpson's 63 right behind him. Simpson relinquished the fourth spot
on lap 2 when Barry Kinnersley moved his 00 around Simpson on the high side.
Danley held the lead until lap 4 when his right front tire and wheel came
off in turns 1 and 2. This caused a major pileup and allowed Matt Moyer to
take fourth. At that time the running order was Rice, Maynard Kinnersley,
Barry Kinnersley and Moyer. Although the top four remained unchanged to the
checkers, there was a fierce battle between father and son for second as
Barry attempted to move past Maynard. Despite all of his efforts, Maynard
managed to hold him off.
"Although the track was slick, I had fun. But, I always have fun racing out
here at Eagle" Rice stated. Mike's sponsors include M & M Construction, Pro
Washing, the Naked Canvas Body Art, Auggie's Performance Shop, Big Dan's
body & Paint, Long John Silvers & Kentucky Fried Chicken, Low Budget
Customs, Derrick Noonan and The Car Wash.
The Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks were next on the card. The 71K of Josh
Kennel came back to the flag stand with the lead on the first lap. Eric
Hansen's #33, Rick Bradley's 28B and the #94 of Mike Hansen were in second
through fourth. It took only 1 lap for Nick Beckman to move his #22 past
Hansen for the fourth position, and the next lap he got around both Kennell
who slowed to fourth and Bradley to take over second. As the leaders came
around through turns 3 & 4 a car stopped against the front stretch wall,
causing a melee behind him. This brought out a red flag which Hansen failed
to heed, causing him to be disqualified. This put Beckman in first, Kennel
back in second, Bradley in third and the #42 of Rob Brown in fourth. At the
restart Bradley moved around Kennell for second and Brown lost his right
rear wheel and tire. Brown limped his racer into the pits so the action
continued. Shane Hiatt moved up to third in his 21H. Kevin Anderson got his
22K around Kennell for fourth with just 9 laps to go and moved up to third
with just 2 laps remaining. For the last two laps Bradley, Anderson and
Hiatt waged a fierce battle. At the checkered flag it was Beckman, Bradley,
Anderson and Hiatt.
"I really needed this one after all of the bad luck and flat tires I've been
having lately. I should have won last week if it wasn't for a popped tire,
so this felt really great tonight" Beckman said. "First of all, I want to
thank the fans, my friends and my family for coming out and cheering us on.
I also need to thank my parents and of course my wife. Last, I need to thank
everyone I race with every week. They all make this whole thing fun and make
it possible for me to race" he continued. "I need to send a special thanks
to Speedy Steve's High Performance for this great motor. That helped us win
this thing tonight" Nick finished. Beckman's sponsors include Denny's Auto
Sales, Clouse Trucking, Athey Painting, Dickey & Burham, Terry's Body Shop
and spider Race Cars.
The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds then took to the track. Mannix
Winningham took his #1M to the front with the 73 of James Oaks, the 5p of
Bob Philipps and Brian Cudly's 57 close on his heels. Cudly took second on
the second circuit and was followed by both the 18 of Terry Richards and the
7 of Bob Ruisinger on lap three. It took 3 more laps before Ruisinger
relinquished the fourth spot to Dylan Smith's 95. On the same lap Richards
advanced to second behind Winningham. At that time it was Winningham,
Richards, Smith and Ruisinger. With 11 laps left Chris Alcorn moved up to
fourth and then to third on the next lap. With 8 laps remaining Winningham
dropped back to fourth with Richards in the lead, Smith in second and Alcorn
in third. With just 2 laps left Smith advanced to second, and although he
gave it his all he couldn't pass Richards.
"To be honest, we weren't even going to come tonight. We raced at Rising
City last night and ran fourth behind Chris Alcorn. Then we took our kids to
Yankton South Dakota this morning and didn't get back until 2:30 this
afternoon. But, we got a phone call saying "You want to go to the track
tonight and race? The car hadn't been touched since last night; we hadn't
washed it or change anything. So we just hooked up the trailer and left,"
Richards said.
"What helped me win was that last yellow flag. I'm not sure I could have
held Dylan off, but I had gotten to see where he was running. So, I changed
my line. That yellow really paid off in the long run." he finished.
Richards' sponsors include TR's Tool Service, Razor Chassis, Demon Decals,
Core Financial, Wachovia Securities and JR Motorsports.
The Budweiser 360 Championship Sprints A Feature was the finale of the
racing. Trevor Grossenbacher hit the turn 1 wall during buzz laps and rolled
his #35. Trevor was unhurt, but could not continue. Gage Dorr snagged the
lead from his pole position in his #17 followed by the 28 of Ken Klabunde,
the 77 of John Klabunde and Kevin Danley's 7X. The top four remained
unchanged until lap 8 when Mike Boston got around Danley to take fourth. 2
laps later Nick Bryan hit nearly the same spot that Grossenbacher had in
turn one and rolled his #6. Boston took advantage of the restart, getting
around John Klabunde for third and then 2 laps later passing John Klabunde
to take second. With 10 laps left Boston went high around Dorr and began to
pull away, winning by over a half of a lap.
"The track was really great tonight. It just kept getting faster and faster
the more we raced on it" Boston stated. When asked if he thought he could
have passed Dorr had it not been for the red flag brought out by Bryan, Mike
said "I didn't even know where he was until I was right behind him. That's
the advantage of not leading. When you're ahead, you have to worry about
hitting your marks every lap. But when you are coming from behind, you can
see where the drivers ahead of you are running and then change your line.try
different ones. That's pretty much what I did" he continued. "Everyone out
here is a great racer. They all run you clean and you never have to worry
about any of them. That's why I love Eagle" he said. "I want to thank most
of all Rick and Michele Bowers for giving me the chance to run their
sprinter. It's great equipment, and that makes it easy to end up front" he
finished. Boston's sponsors include Eckley Racing Engines, Trade Center
Automotive, CMart of Crete, Vision Sports, Lincoln Drywall and One Eyed Dog
Saloon.
Next week at Eagle Raceway features two nights of racing action. First, on
Thursday July 3rd, the Super Late Model Mixer featuring the WDRL/NCRA Late
Models as well as Wingless Sprints take to the high banks. Front gates open
at 5:30, with time trials at 6:30 and racing at 7:30.
Then on Saturday July 5th Colby Ridge and the Brew present Christmas in July
Fan Appreciation Night. Adult fans will receive $5 off of their general
admission with a donated NEW toy. All toys collected will be given to Toys
for Tots which is coordinated by the US Marine Corp volunteers. These
volunteers will be on site collecting the toy donations. Hot laps will start
at 6:00 with racing at 7:00.

Win a chance to ride with Carl Edwards
when Your Midwest Ford Dealers present Sprint Cup Star Carl Edwards Night at
I-80 Speedway, and the chance to win one of three two-seater rides with
Edwards who drives the #99 office Depot Ford Fusion.
Coupons good for $5 off day of show adult admission will be available at
area Ford dealers starting the week of June 30th, and include an entry form
for a chance to win one of the rides. A complete listing of Ford dealers
also will be released that week.
Race fans can purchase advance tickets for only $15 now through June 30th at
the Omaha office, 5040 I Street or by calling (402)342-3453. After the 30th,
adult tickets are $20. Juniors 13-18 are only $5, kids 5-12 are $2 and
children under 5 are free. Gates open at 4:00 p.m., and racing action is
slated to start at 5:55 p.m.
NASCAR's Edwards to Race at I-80
calls home, is Sprint Cup star Carl Edwards, driver of the #99 Office Depot
Ford Fusion. Edwards will battle local drivers, including his brother Kenny,
when Your Midwest Ford Dealers present Carl Edwards night on Sunday, July
13th at the Greenwood, NE track.
"We are looking forward to having Carl at the track again this year," said
Ed Kosiski, track promoter. "He is a great supporter of local NASCAR grass
roots racing and he also enjoys being able to race against his brother."
Last year, Edwards dislocated his thumb in the early laps of the NASCAR
Super Late Model race, and the year before an early wreck also ended his
hopes of beating his younger brother on the track.
Area Ford Dealers will have $5 off day of show adult admission coupons

BCM Waives Track, Pit fees for new racers
On Friday, June 27th all new cars that have not experienced the thrill of
BCM's fast track will be allowed to race for free. This means that the $30
track fee will be waived that night and they will pay for the driver's pit
pass that night.

I-80 Alphabet Soup Drivers Information
to race in the $5,000 to win, 7th annual Alphabet Soup Race at I-80 Speedway
presented by your Area Dodge Dealers. Also joining them will be IMCA Great
Clips Modifieds and IMCA Ty's Outdoor Power Equipment and Service Hobby
Stocks.
Pit passes are $20, and the entry fee for the Super Late Model race is $100.
The purse for the late models is as follows: : 1st $5,000.00 2nd $2,700.00
3rd $1,700.00 4th $1,200.00 5th $1,150.00 6th $1,110.00 7th $1,050.00 8th
$1,000.00 9th $900.00 10th $800.00 11th $650.00 12th $600.00 13th $500.00
14th $475.00 15th $450.00 16th $425.00 17th through 30th $400.00 each =
$25,310 in the A Feature purse. Non-qualified drivers receive $150 each.

There is no entry fee for the IMCA Mods or IMCA Hobby Stocks as they are
racing for the weekly purse as listed on the website. (IMCA Mods purse is
listed under NASCAR Mods).
Pit Gates open at 3:00 p.m., draw cutoff time is 6:00 p.m., hot laps are at
6:15 p.m., and racing starts at 7:00 p.m. Front gates open at 5:00 p.m. and
fans can get $5 off adult admission coupons at their area Dodge Dealers.
Grandstand prices for adults are $20, juniors 13-18 with ID are $12, kids
5-12 are $2 and under 5 are free.

The Midwest's top touring late models are set to return to I-80 Speedway on
Wednesday, July 2nd for the rescheduled Alphabet Soup Race presented by Your
Area Dodge Dealers. Drivers from the World Dirt Racing League (WDRL),
Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA), National Championship Racing
Association (NCRA), Topless Outlaw Racing Association (TORA) and the Spec
Late Model Series (SLMR) will join together for the 50 lap, $5000 to win
event. Local favorites Kyle Berck, Terry Phillips, Joe Kosiski, Leon Zeitner
and John Anderson are expected to be on hand. Also on the card for the night
are the Great Clips IMCA Modifieds and the Ty's Outdoor Power Equipment
Hobby Stocks, both of which are running for weekly points and purse.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m., with hot laps at 6:15 p.m. and racing slated to
start at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for juniors 13 -18 with
ID, $2 for kids 5- 12 and under 5 are free. Coupons good for $5 off adult
admission will be available at Your Area Dodge Dealers by Saturday, and rain
checks from the May 25th event will be honored this night.
One lucky fan will win two garage passes to the September Kansas City Sprint
Cup race courtesy of Your Area Dodge Dealers. Entry forms for the drawing
are located on the back of the Dodge coupon. Entry forms from the May 25th
race were saved by the track.
Camping is free on the I-80 Speedway grounds for those race fans traveling
to area tracks for races the next day.

Midwest Region Invades McCool Junction on Friday
intervened in last month's scheduled season opener, the American Sprint Car
Series Midwest Region will make another attempt at Junction Motor Speedway
in McCool Junction, NE, this Friday night.
While North Dakota's Natalie Sather defends her ASCS Midwest Region
championship, Missouri's Brian Brown tries to extend his mastery of Junction
Motor Speedway in the month of June. Brown has topped the ASCS Midwest
Region's June event atop the 3/8-mile McCool Junction dirt oval over each of
the past two years.
Brown, the winningest driver in ASCS Midwest Region history, is out to the
early series points lead after finishing second to Jason Johnson on Saturday
night at Knoxville Raceway.
Sather kicked off her title defense by racing from 21st to thirteenth in
Saturday's Knoxville opener.
Friday's action at Junction Motor Speedway is set to go green at 7:00 p.m.
Junction Motor Speedway is located in McCool Junction, NE, off I-80 Exit
353, then 5.6 miles south on US 81, then 0.3 miles west on CR 4, then north.

The ASCS Midwest Region is currently slated for nine nights of action at
eight different tracks throughout Nebraska and the immediate surrounding
area stretching into Kansas, Missouri and Iowa.

different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly
American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car
Series' (ASCS) 17th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights
of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different
states and Canada.

Looking back at this weekend part II - Eagle
It was an eerie experience during hotlaps when the cold wind from thunderstorm outflow blew cottonwood spores onto the track, almost like snowflakes. Minutes later, the sun shone and the temperatures as well as the humidity shot up. Sweatshirt weather went to shorts and t-shirts in the span of a few laps of the sprint heats. Fortunately a thin crowd also increased as the temps rose.
As a photographer, it was tough shooting with the light changing so rapidly. But the wake of the thunderstorms left a beautiful sunset as the clouds parted. Though another thunderstorm developed nearby, again scattering some drops on the track, it amounted to nothing.
The racing? Oh yes...that. Two messy A features.
What I don't understand is why after they split up the fields and add more laps do the compact drivers still think that going four-wide, almost three rows deep is a good idea? The result, a pile of metal and plastic in turn three. Maybe part of the "learning" process needs to be knowing most races aren't won on the first lap and MAYBE part of the learning process means not making the main event when your driving leads to crashing out and having to suffer through a B feature.
Sprint equipment fared worse, with several torn up cars, including three winding up on their head and one if not on their head, torn up from front to back. Unfortunately, Brad Krutz left in an ambulance after the races were over for observation. A duel in the final laps saw Mark Pace duplicate his Eagle best second place finish, with Mike Boston taking home the honors - a fine recovery from his Knoxville suffering the night before.
I don't know if it's the tacky track, or ruts or....
The Hobby Stock A feature had its drama with Nick Beckman blowing a tire on the final lap and Justin Wulf creating a hail of sparks hitting the front stretch wall and nipping Jerry Keaton at the line.
Stacey Wilhelm's modified smoked just enough NOT to get black flagged and despite the oil light coming on with five laps to go, he held on for the win despite Chevy Hadan's feverish charge in those final five laps.
I fully admit to being a sprint car nut, that's what I grew up around. But I've developed an appreciation for the modifieds and their drivers - I enjoy watching the show and many of the die-hard open wheel fans have developed an appreciation for the skills. The class has a lot of maturity. Wheeling one of those around requires finesse. The Eagle mod group is usually a very friendly and down to earth bunch. Now when they have an off night and get ugly, they get really ugly. But when there's a good field of quality drivers and cars - the races can be phenomenal. Overall, I think they put on a great show and I enjoy photographing them too.

Looking back at this weekend part I - Knoxville
It has become sprint car racing's Mecca, for a reason. There is one focus - sprint cars. The looming Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum should be testimony to that. Late Models, Modifieds, even Midgets are auxiliary events. This place lives and breathes sprint cars.
I would be the first to commit blasphemy and say the track is too big now for sprint cars. Half miles are outdated - winged racing can get lock-down, round and round, as I saw in the ASCS 360 division. But in this case, to try to take that away from the track is like asking the late George Carlin to remove the sarcasm from his act - it's essential to what they are.
The half-mile is an inherent part of the track's being. The size of the track is just as iconic as the black dirt, pork tenderloin sandwiches and towering layers of guardrail still meant to mimic the wooden ties of the past. You can't shake that.
Where a bull ring is the ideal venue for a midget, the half-mile hosted an entertaining contest with the top drivers from USAC and other sanctions.
The wingless wonders saw slidejobs-a-plenty (not to mention A feature red flags) but still yielded a terrific battle at the end where a young and diminutive Brad Sweet stole victory from an equally small in stature Cole Whitt in the final laps of Friday's contest. What these two lacked in height is made up for in cojones as they repeatedly leaped from the turn one rut to the cushion and out again as if it were the only way around the track.
The performance of the top two overshadowed excellent drives from Russ Harper, Michael Pickens and Aaron Fiscus who started deep in the field for top-ten finishes.
The ASCS show had one big event, Wayne Johnson’s motor expiring, giving the victory to Jason Johnson. Brian Brown settled for second, a straight’s length behind. Josh Higday was the exception to the mostly static field, finishing sixth after starting 24th.
It wasn’t a good night for Nebraska-based teams. The Lovegrove Racing, Larry Pinegar II –driven entry was felled by motor problems again while Billy Alley and Ryan Roberts also suffered mechanical problems. Eagle Raceway three-time champ Mike Boston just didn’t have it “there,” settling for eighth in the B feature (he was the first to admit to the bad night in his victory lane interview at Eagle Saturday). Jack Dover had the right tire mounted, but not on the car when his heat race victory was negated by having on an illegal tire. A fourth place B feature finish wasn’t enough for a place in the A main.
Sadly, for its place as arguably the world's most noteworthy dirt track, it is not immune from the influences of today's situations with economy and in Iowa, the weather. Light showers fell on the track around 5:30 and delayed racing until 9. The weather contributed to a scant crowd of maybe 1,000 fans (that's my estimate).
Credit the folks for not screwing around with long delays – something I remember USAC was notorious for back in the days they were at Eagle. Not only were over 100 cars in attendance (57 360’s and 44 midgets), they clicked off each race as quick as possible and I was told intermission was only 8 minutes long. No fault there. The show wrapped up around 1 AM and Joe Orth and I headed home for a 5AM arrival in Lincoln. I'm too old for that - next time, I'm staying overnight regardless.
It was great to see a big crowd of Lincoln area drivers and fans make the trip. Thanks to (or damn you) to Chris Moses for getting me hooked on Grape-flavored NOS energy drink. That and a handful of Goldfish powered my drive from Stuart, IA to Greenwood, NE (fumes carried me home).
It was all a wonderful experience.

Some clarification
For now, the best way to get stuff to me on site is to send it to me directly (email's on the front page) in a clear, spell-checked, newspaper style release (who, what, when, where, why) without "first person" verbage as in "I" when you mean "Joe Blow, Promoter of XYZ Speedway" and "you guys" when you mean "drivers and owners."
One comment I heard from an editor of a racing paper is that editing content is getting to the point that it's making it difficult to get the info into print. Do yourself a favor and take one minute to turn that message board post into a real release.
Follow the examples of USMTS, NRP/I-80, and Randy Lawrence's info for Team Dover and see how they put everything together when it comes to advance info. You're only helping yourselves.

The Pace Lap June 20, 2008
It’s another possible two-day weekend for me, with a trip to Knoxville for the USAC Knoxville “Midget Nationals” and ASCoT (ASCS National Tour) sprint cars. I’ll be returning to Knoxville after nearly 12 years, having last been there in the fall of 1996 when we ran the 1BK with Don Droud, Jr. behind the wheel on the NCRA 410 Outlaw Circuit.
One of my racing photography desires has been to shoot at Knoxville, and yeah it isn’t the nationals, but the best USAC midget drivers and the best 360 drivers are certainly no second-rate show! Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Famer Joe Orth and I will be making the trip.
Once again, the Eagle Nationals have come and gone, with some pretty good racing both nights. Not all of it was wheel-to-wheel but there was a fair share of drama both nights. Chris Roseland opted to take the “Back Row Challenge” on Friday, starting at the rear of the field with a $1000 bonus if he won the A feature.
A couple of helpful cautions and red flags combined with a fast car led to Roseland sitting in second place on the lap 20 mandatory red flag. Unfortunately Mike Boston was in 100% form and sprinted away on the restart. Still, it was a great run by Roseland and a good feature for the fans.
Generally I root for the underdog, but watching some drivers do their magic sometimes is just as satisfying. Seeing Chris Alcorn cut through a field of Modifieds is really something to watch. It’s so methodical. It takes me back to watching Ed Kosiski wind through a field of Late Models on his way to his 16-win season in 1998, or watching countless number of Kevin Larkins back to front runs at Eagle in the 90’s. When I see performances like that, it’s almost disappointing if they DON’T win.
The tracks both nights were very good, and Saturday’s was outstanding. My favorite: fast in the heats, with a cushion, dry in the middle and a little on the bottom for the A.
There were fans who missed the two-day World of Outlaws experience (I’m one of them), but I can safely say that the losses on some of those two-day shows were a major contributor to the change in management at the track.
Saturday’s crowd was very good, but not the kind of crowd to justify a two day experience. Friday’s crowd wasn’t anything special either. I don’t blame the track so much as I do the economy. Word is you can still get very good Knoxville Nationals tickets even NOW. A few years ago, you were in a low corner of the backstretch by this time, if you got tickets at all. Things are tough all over.
I’m thankful things are going OK for me but I’m busier than cat covering crap right now at work and it will only get busier – and when I’m home, I got other things to do and sometimes updating the site isn’t one of them.
To add to it, I’m admitting to being a bit burned out after 28 years of being at a racetrack on a spring and summer Friday, Saturday or Sunday night save for rainouts. Since 1997, I’ve been at Eagle every night except for three, and one of those nights I was at another track.
Long story short – I’m going to take some time off from the frequency of updates to this site for a little bit, and I’m not talking a few days.
I freely admit that now I like photographing racing more than writing about it, and this season collecting and editing results/news from tracks has been more labor intensive than in the past. I believe that the money crunch prevents getting detailed and frequent information out when track staff are busy with so many other tasks.
I’m going to focus on the photography on this site and thus, the updates will be less frequent. I may even take a weekend or two off from racing entirely (!). But I need a break. Thanks to everyone for reading.

Knoxville Kicks off ASCoT Northern Swing
Cars on Tour National series kicks off its three-race Northern Swing with
this Friday night's event atop Iowa's ½-mile Knoxville Raceway dirt oval.
Friday's card atop the famed Knoxville Raceway marks the series first event
at the Marion County Fairgrounds aside from the track's annual 360
Nationals, which has been sanctioned by the American Sprint Car Series since
1996.
Friday's event opens the three-race Northern Swing for the O'Reilly ASCoT
National series, with ensuing events at Hartford, South Dakota's I-90
Speedway on Tuesday, June 24, and then Huron, South Dakota's Dakota State
Fair Speedway on Saturday, June 28.
Gary Wright, winner of the Knoxville 360 Nationals ten years ago in 1998,
enters Friday's card at Knoxville Raceway with a 38-point lead as he pursues
an unprecedented fifth consecutive ASCS National championship, which will
once again be worth $50,000.
Louisiana's Jason Johnson enters Friday's card as the only driver to capture
more than one ASCoT National feature win this season, as the "Ragin' Cajun"
climbed to second in points on the strength of his fourth series win of the
year on May 10.
While shut out of victory lane in ASCoT action thus far in 2008, Oklahoma
City native Wayne Johnson may enter Friday's event with the upper hand after
racing to victory lane at Knoxville Raceway over each of the past two
Saturday nights. Now calling Knoxville home, Johnson enters Friday's event
just a dozen points behind Jason Johnson and 50 markers off of "The Texan's"
lead pace.
Wright and the unrelated Johnson duo lead a loaded contingent of 14
full-time ASCoT National teams that are set for all three Northern Swing
events including past ASCS National champions Zach Chappell (Talala, OK),
Travis Rilat (Forney, TX) and Garry Lee Maier (Cimarron, KS).
Nick Smith (Broken Arrow, OK), the series' 2006 Rookie of the Year, has
climbed to seventh in points with one victory to his credit, with
20-year-old Eric Baldaccini (Keller, TX) this year's leading Rookie of the
Year contender over a crop that includes Kenneth Walker (Sapulpa, OK),
17-year-old Kathryne Minter (Bedford, TX) and Chris Tarrant (Greenville,
TX).
Jack Dover, the 18-year-old from Springfield, NE, that captured his first
ASCoT National win in Oklahoma City just over a month ago to crack the top
ten in points, is set for all three Northern Swing events along with
20-year-old Donnie Ray Crawford (Broken Arrow, OK) and the Broken Arrow, OK,
combination of Aaron Berryhill and Sean McClelland aboard the No. 97 entry.
Fargo, North Dakota's Natalie Sather, who has posted several recent strong
runs at Knoxville, kicks off her ASCS Midwest Region title defense with
Friday's card.
Ankeny, Iowa's Matt Moro leads the regular Knoxville contingent into the
event by holding a slim lead in track points over South Dakota's Gregg
Bakker, with other top track shoes including Brett Mather, Josh Higday and
Joe Beaver.

Butler County Motorplex "Up-Rising" Results
The "Uprising" was held at Butler County Motorplex on Friday June 13th. Tom
Svoboda moved into the lead on lap two of the first IMCA Modified heat race
and continued for the win. Bob Zoubek followed in second with Scott Bivens
third and Ross Frank fourth. Mike Densberger got the lead on lap three of
the second heat race and went on to win. Chris Alcorn moved into finish
second with Mike Stearns third and Terry Richards fourth.
Damon Richards controlled the IMCA Hobby Stock heat number one from start to
finish. Mike Goldfuss finished in second with Dusty Poessnecker and Shane
Schneider rounding out the top four. Nick Topil had his car working good as
he dominated the second heat race. Ethan Johnson controlled second place as
Quinten Spragg and Shane Hiatt filled the next two positions.
Dan Rhiley won the IMCA Sport Compact heat race even though Shawn Turner had
the best time in that race. Turner finished second with Ben Simpson third
and Tony Rost was fourth.
Max Harder held off Geoff Olson to win the first Sport Mod heat race. Olson
had fast time and finished second with Denny Berghahn Jr. in third and
Nathan Kobus fourth. Roger Harpstor took the win in the second heat. Rod
Bronson, Kevin Kloke and Kyle Becker rounded out the field.
Amanda Rhiley took the early lead in the IMCA Sport Compact feature but
Shawn Turner took control on lap five and continued for the win. Dan Rhiley
moved up to finish in second as Amanda Rhiley was third and Tony Rost
fourth.
Sixteen year old Damon Richards grabbed the lead in the IMCA Hobby Stock
feature. Richards continued his lead and was doing an outstanding job until
lap number eight when he lost control coming out of turn two and rode the
guard rail. Dusty Poessnecker had the lead as the race resumed and went on
to win. Nick Topil finished second followed by Branden Kresha and Mike
Goldfuss.
IMCA Sport Mod driver Max Harder took the early lead in their feature race.
Harder continued to lead until lap number eight when Denny Berghahn Jr. took
control of the race. Berghahn continued for the win as Harder had to settle
for second. Geoff Olson finished third and Steve Swarthout was fourth.
Mike Stearns started the IMCA Modified feature on the inside of row two and
took the lead from Mike Densberger on the second lap of the race. Stearns
continued his lead for the win. The feature was free of any caution flags
making it very exciting for the fans and drivers. Scott Styskal moved up
and finished second. Terry Richards finished third and Densberger was
fourth.
During the short intermission drawings were held for many prizes including
gift cards to Walmart.

Two for Two: Dollansky Wraps Up Weekend Sweep with a Win in the Eagle Nationals
Craig Dollansky felt like he let a win slip away on Wednesday night at
Sedalia's State Fair Speedway while leading in traffic, and he made sure
history did not repeat itself as he held off Steve Kinser in heavy traffic
to win the Eagle Nationals at Eagle Raceway in Nebraska on Saturday night.
Dollansky started on the pole and dropped back to second behind Kinser at
the start, but dove under Kinser exiting the fourth turn on the fifth lap to
make the pass for the lead and ultimately the win. It was Dollansky's second
consecutive A-Feature win and his fourth on the season. It was also his
second straight win driving a specially painted Snap-on Tool Maxim.
"It was a great night," said the winner, who earned $10,000 for the 25th
A-Feature win of his World of Outlaws career. "I am very happy for Larry
Woodward and everyone that stands behind this race team. The crew worked
hard as always and I am very proud of them. We had a great Maxim race car
tonight with Charlie Garrett power."
Lapped traffic was the story on Saturday night, as the event went 40 laps
non-stop in nine minutes and 23 seconds on the high-banked 1/3-mile. A
number of times over the course of the race, Dollansky pulled away from
Kinser, as he was able to slice his way through the slower machines,
eventually lapping all but the Top-Eight finishers.
"Typically you don't see that happen very often, but that puts on a good
show for the fans when you can keep going," said the native of Elk River,
Minnesota. "We didn't get the lead at the start of the race and we had to
work our way past Steve (Kinser) and the Snap-on car was working well
tonight. We kept working on it all night and tried to keep up with the race
track."
At the drop of the green, Kinser got the jump and charged into the first
turn. He would lead the first three laps, before Dollansky took the lead
just before the pair first encountered traffic. Dollansky was held up a
couple of times in heavy traffic, but each time was able to clear the slower
machines before Kinser was able to close in on him.
"Lapped traffic definitely made some things happen tonight," he reiterated.
"Going 40-laps non-stop stirs some things up. The car felt real good in
traffic. I felt like I had the car I needed in traffic to drive it a little
harder. Lapped traffic can make or break and tonight we were operating
through it pretty well."
In addition to battling traffic for the duration of the event, the drivers
also had their hands full with the racing surface at Eagle Raceway which
continued to change throughout the 40-lap contest. Dollansky was able to
negotiate the track early in the race, as he turned the fastest lap of any
of the competitors on the second circuit and then set a blistering pace once
in the lead.
"The cushion was inconsistent and that's a good thing," explained Dollansky.
"That makes you have to navigate it and everyone can't just follow the same
line around the race track. Each corner has different characteristics. My
hat is off to SLS (Promotions) and Eagle Raceway for the job they did
preparing this track for all the fans that came out."
After a busy stretch that saw the World of Outlaws compete six times over
the last nine days, Dollansky is pleased with the direction of his team, as
they will receive a much deserved break this week. He is currently third in
points on the strength of 19 Top-10 finishes in 20 starts this season.
"We were plagued a little bit with some issues with our motor program, and
we are definitely working toward getting that sorted out," he noted. "You
have to be strong every night and work hard all year long. We just keep
focus on winning races and keep ourselves in this hunt in the championship
chase."
Kinser led the A-Feature early on Saturday night and wound up second in the
Q Oil Maxim, after his team changed engines after a runner-up finish in the
Crane Cams Dash. On the opening lap of the A-Feature he dove under Dollansky
entering the first turn to lead.
"I got the gear a little bit high, but we had some motor problems in the
dash and I went ahead and stuck a higher gear it in," said the 20-time World
of Outlaws champion. "I don't know if it would have helped me or not. I got
the rolling around a little bit better, but it was flopping around some.
We're learning a little bit and just have to keep running and hopefully
we'll get these cars working a little better."
Kinser was able to close on Dollansky in open race track a number of times,
but got bottled in traffic nearly every time he got close to him. He used a
couple of different lines during the race as he tried to track down
Dollansky.
"I would catch him a little bit and then he would get away from me," shared
the native of Bloomington, Indiana. "It depended on how we caught lapped
traffic. It was back and forth. I was down on the bottom of one and two and
he slid up high early in the race and I let him get a run on me. I shouldn't
have done that. He was running pretty good and may have gotten by me
anyway."
Kinser, who has won 24 times at Eagle Raceway in his career, was not
surprised to see the race go green-to-checker non-stop. It was the seventh
consecutive race that has featured a large amount of traffic which
ultimately had played into the outcome of those events.
"With the caliber of cars we had in the race, it was not surprising," he
added. "You have strong cars out here right now and there were 24 good cars
tonight. Most of them are capable of winning a race."
Jason Meyers picked up his second consecutive third-place finish as he
earned the final podium position on Saturday night. The native of Clovis,
California leads the series with 17 Top-Five finishes in 20 starts driving
the GLR Investments KPC. He closed on Kinser a couple of times in traffic,
but could never get even with him to attempt a pass.
"It's another Top-Five finish and we have to keep putting those up on the
board," said Meyers. "It was a technical race track tonight. A good race
track, but just really tough to get a run on people. We just couldn't quite
get enough to get a run on the guys. We would close up on them in traffic
and it was tough to get a run on anyone tonight."
Donny Schatz finished fourth aboard the Armor All J&J for Tony Stewart
Racing, as he continues to chase his third consecutive series title. He
remains the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in every event this
season. He holds a 43-point advantage over Meyers in the championship
standings. He began the night by turning the fastest lap in time trials,
which earned him five bonus points.
"We qualified well and got ourselves up there in the heat to get in the
dash," said Schatz. "I totally misjudged the race track in what it was going
to do. I didn't expect it to stay fast on the top like that and it did. We
banked on our race car being able to move off it and I just couldn't get it
to turn for 40 laps. It was a handful. When you have nights like that, and
we don't have them very often, you just have to look at it as being done and
move on."
Shane Stewart finished fifth in the Roth Motorsports KPC to earn his eighth
Top-Five finish of the season.
Joey Saldana was sixth in the Budweiser/Open Joist Mopar-powered JEI, with
Jac Haudenschild in seventh aboard the Owens Corning Fiberglass Maxim. Terry
McCarl was eighth driving the Big Game Treestands Eagle, with Sam Hafertepe
Jr. in ninth in the G.H. Plumbing J&J. Kerry Madsen rounded out the Top-10
driving the TK Concrete Maxim.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action
on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 in the Boot Hill Showdown at Dodge
City Raceway Park in Kansas.
EAGLE NATIONALS NOTEBOOK
. FAST QUALIFIER: Donny Schatz paced the 26 cars that took time with an AMB
i.t. timed lap around the high-banked 1/3-mile oval at 11.235 seconds at
106.702 mph. For his qualifying effort, Schatz earned five bonus points. The
next four fastest qualifiers also earned bonus points, including: Jac
Haudenschild (4), Jason Meyers (3), Sam Hafertepe Jr. (2), and Terry McCarl
(1).
. QUALIFYING WINNERS: Donny Schatz, Jac Haudenschild and Craig Dollansky won
heat races. Craig Dollansky won the Crane Cams Dash. Tony Bruce Jr. won the
B-Main.

Dollansky and Alcorn Big Winners of Eagle Nationals
The Eagle Nationals featuring the "Greatest Show on Dirt", The Advanced Auto
Parts World of Outlaws and the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds was held
Saturday under sunny skies and warm temperatures. A crowd estimated at 5000
witnessed fast and furious action throughout the event.
Donny Schatz managed to put up the quick time of the evening in the Parker
Stores #15, posting a lap of 11.235 seconds. Joining Schatz in the top 5 of
qualifying efforts were Jac Haudenschild's #R19 with a 11.254 second effort,
Jason Meyers' 14 with a 11.262 run, the #15H of Sam Hafertape Jr. with a
11.293 and Terry McCarl in the #24 who's best lap was a 11.300.
The heats in both classes were run in quick order with no incidents.
The Crane Cams Dash, which sets the lineup for the front rows of the
Advanced Auto Parts World of Outlaws feature saw Craig Dollansky first, with
Steve Kinser in second, Jason Meyers in third and Donny Schatz in fourth.
The first feature event was for the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds.
Dave Jewitt's #4M crossed the start/finish line with the lead at the end of
the first lap. Close behind him were the 0 of Jim Krupicka, the 3W of Stacey
Wilhelm and Bob Ruisinger's #7. Chad Anderson moved his #8C into the fourth
spot on lap 6, passing Ruisinger on the outside. On the very next lap
Anderson got around both Wilhelm and Krupicka to garner 2nd with Dylan Smith
following him into third in his #95. Shortly thereafter, Krupicka ran
through the infield coming out of turn #1 and began to drop back in the
pack. It took only 13 laps for two-time defending track champion Chris
Alcorn to advance from his starting spot outside of the 9th row to fourth,
passing Rik Gropp who had taken the spot earlier. A yellow flag came out
that same lap however, allowing Gropp to move back up. On the restart, Smith
snared the second spot from Anderson and then moved around Jewitt for the
lead. On the next circuit, Gropp moved into the third position, followed by
Alcorn who advanced once again to fourth. With 6 laps left in the event,
Gropp took over the lead and Alcorn advanced to third. 2 laps later Smith
retook the point and Gropp was also passed by Alcorn. From there it was a
fierce battle between Alcorn and Smith to see who would come out on top.
Alcorn made numerous attempts to get around Smith on the low side, but
couldn't quite make the pass stick. Finally, coming out of the last turn of
the last lap Alcorn succeeded in taking the lead on the high side.
"The track was pretty darned good tonight. And it was great racing with
Dylan. I knew he wouldn't do anything like take my line away. It's always
good to know that you're battling with a good, clean racer like Dylan"
Alcorn said.
Alcorn's sponsors include Independent Equipment, ATH Motorsports, Midwest
Unlimited, Heavy Company, Spanel Engines and Onyx Digital Group.
Finally the main event of the evening's festivities arrived. After the
Outlaws' signature 4-wide salute to the fans it was time for the Advanced
Auto Parts World of Outlaws A Main event.
Steve Kinser's #11 got to the point first followed by the #2 of Dollansky,
Jason Meyers in the 14, and Donny Shatz's 15. The lead remained unchanged
until lap 5 when Dollansky pulled a slide job to take the lead away from
Kinser as they began to encounter lapped traffic. From there until the
checkered flag Dollansky was challenged several times by Kinser, but
maintained his lead. Although the entire feature was run in just over 8
minutes, the crowd got more than their money's worth with fast-paced action
the whole race. At the checkered flag, the top four were a repeat of the
Crane Cams Dash. Dollansky took the win with Kinser, Meyers and Schatz
behind him.
"This was a really well-prepared track tonight, and that's the way we like
it. I love coming to Eagle, especially when we can win back-to-back like
this" Dollansky stated. "When you have a great track like this, you can do
lots of things, try different lines, pass all over the track" Dollansky
stated. "This was a great win for the Larry Woodward Racing team. We've been
putting out a great team effort lately, and it shows in the results" he
finished.

Boston Wins Eagle's Backrow Challenge

The Back Row Challenge, presented by the Blaze and Jack Daniels saw the track records in jeopardy for most of the evening. The cool evening and fast track gave the crowd exciting action all night.
The only serious incident of the card occurred in the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock B Feature when Troy Mencke rolled his #4 Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock several times. Mencke and 2 other racers went into the corner three wide and the ensuing contact caused Mencke to come to a rest on his top. Mencke was uninjured, but was unable to continue racing.
The Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Main #1 saw the #55 of Garrett Rech in the lead, followed by the #4 of David Tadlock and Matt Moyer’s #29. Justin Busboom lost the steering in his #62 and attempted to pull off the track but came to a rest on the berm, bringing out the yellow flag. Shortly after that, Tadlock began to drop back through the field and Moyer moved around Rech to take the point. Ron Frank advanced to the third spot in his 18R with Jack Prall IV’s #44 behind him. With just 6 laps left Prall IV got around Frank to take third with his son, Jack Prall IV following him into fourth. 2 laps later Rech slowed and Prall III overtook him for the lead. 2 laps were left in the race when Prall IV advanced to the second position. As they came out of turn 4 to the checkers Prall IV moved to the high line and passed his father for the win.
“Honestly, after last week, I was just glad the car didn’t catch on fire again” Prall IV said. “I want to give a really big thanks to the Eagle Fire and Rescue squad for saving my car. I also need to thank my dad for giving me the car, because without him doing that, I wouldn’t be able to race” he continued. “Getting around my dad tonight was the most fun I’ve had racing. I really had to work for it, but I forgive him” he finished. Prall IV’s sponsors include Beaver Lake Marina, Jay Spencer of Innovative Vinyl Designs, Cut Rite Services and Peterson Trailers.
In the second Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Feature Mike Rice’s #24 moved to the point after the first lap with Jason Miller’s 77 in second, the #6 of Roger Elliot in third and Maynard Kinnersley’s 18 in fourth. Kinnersley took only 2 laps to advance to third with Chris LaChappelle’s 31 taking over the fourth spot. On the very next lap Miller got inside of Rice to snag the lead. Rice retired 4 laps later, moving Kinnersley to 2nd, LaChapelle to third and the #21 of Jake Sells to the fourth spot. Hard and tight racing continued throughout the rest of the contest with LaChapelle, Sells and the #29 of Matt Moyer going three wide at times for the third position. Only three laps were left when a caution was thrown for debris on the racing surface. Again a last lap pass for position was made as Sells got past LaChapelle for the third spot.
“It was a really good track tonight. I tried all sorts of different lines, and no matter where I went the car ran great” Miller said. “I finally managed to figure out the invert for the feature races, and that helped a lot” he continued. “I need to give a huge thank you to Bushwhackers. They and my other sponsors make it possible to be out here each week. Without Exhaust Pros, Three Points electric, Advanced Drywall, Moss Racing, Ambassador Home Improvement, RM Roll Cages, Union Jack Screen Printing and 2 Men & A Shop I wouldn’t be able to race at all” he finished.
The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks were the next feature event. Don Hall Jr. attempted to duplicate last week’s win by going to the point in his #92. Hall was followed by the #98 of Daniel Jackson, the 22 of Nick Beckman and Rick Munson in the M70. There was a yellow flag for debris on lap two, slowing the action momentarily.
On the restart, Beckman got under Jackson, making contact, and Jackson ended up leaving the racing surface. By lap 3, Kevin Anderson had advanced his #22 all the way to second after having started 12th, with Munson close on his heels in third. Four laps later Beckman got squirrelly, allowing the 1R of RJ Macku to take over the fourth position. Anderson got past Hall Jr. on lap #8. The next lap, Macku moved into the third slot. On the 12th circuit, defending track champion Justin Wulf moved his #86 past Macku for third. The positions remained unchanged to the finish with Anderson winning, Hall Jr. in the runner-up spot, Wulf in third and Macku in fourth.
“It was a great track tonight. And, we did something right tonight….but I won’t say what it was because it’s top secret” Anderson joked. “I love racing out here. This class has a bunch of great guys and good, clean racers” he finished. Anderson’s sponsors include Lincoln Lawn Guys, The Garage Sports Bar and Grill and The Auto Connection.
The last A Feature saw the Budweiser 360 Championship Sprints move onto Eagle’s high banks for the Back Row Challenge. Chris Roseland had drawn the #1 chip, giving him the pole position, but when offered the opportunity to start dead last for a possibility of winning another $1000 for coming home first, he quickly accepted.
Gene Acklund’s 14G came back to the start/finish line with the lead with Jason Danley’s #82 in second, the 51 of Mike Boston in third and Jack Dover’s 53 in fourth. The racing was halted on lap #2 when Frank Galusha flipped his sprinter in turns 1 and 2. Galusha was uninjured. On the restart Boston moved into second with the #91 of Brad Krutz following him to take over third with Dover holding onto fourth. Lap #4 saw Boston get around Acklund for the lead. Dover moved into third, only to be repassed by Krutz.
With 15 laps to go Bobby Becker took a nasty ride in turn four. As Dover came upon the scene he attempted to brake and miss Becker but ended up snapping the car to the right, contacting the wall in turn four and doing a gentle rollover himself. He was towed to the work area where his crew was able to make repairs to the car and allow him to get back onto the track as the race went back to green. Unfortunately the restart saw Danley and the #44 driven by Larry Pinegar II get together and come to a halt, bringing out yet another yellow flag. On the restart Roseland moved into fourth position, within sight of the victory. It took him only 3 more laps to take over third, and 2 laps later he got into second.
With 10 laps to go, the planned red flag was thrown, allowing the crews to make adjustments to the sprinters. Roseland was forced to settle for the runner-up spot as he was unable to get around Boston who was, at times running within 2/10ths of his own track record. At the end of the race it was Boston winning, Roseland in second, Krutz in third and Dover up to fourth.
When asked if he was glad that Roseland had taken the Back Row Challenge, Boston said “Heck no. I wish I could have gotten to do it. Chris had his chance when we restarted with 10 to go, but we were just faster tonight” Boston stated. “The car was just awesome all night. It was so good we barely made any changes the whole program” he continued. “I need to thank Rich and Michele Bowers, my car owners. They give me a great car every week,” he finished.

The Pace Lap – June 13, 2008
Some random thoughts:
-Butler County is hosting the “Up Rising,” with additional purse throughout. Question is: how many cars will they get with Eagle running track points for its hobbies and compacts? They could see a good Modified count however.
-That said, Thayer County is running for $650 to win tonight in the Mods as well. Again, another potentially great modified show.
-Perhaps having Saturday night off will motivate some of the Hobbies and Compacts down to Beatrice.
-I overheard a discussion two weeks ago about a certain class of cars being upset that the purse wasn’t bigger given they had to pay the same amount of pit fee. The conclusion was that “the promoter is making money off our pit fees!”
No, really?!?
Welcome to 21st century “back gate” promoting. When I hear the talk about “if it weren’t for (less expensive class) you wouldn’t have (more expensive class),” well now you know the reason why that’s true at 95% of the tracks that run more than one class. Sorry if you had grander ideas – I’m not trying to be insulting, I’m trying to have you remember the first job of a race promoter – to make money. If the situation doesn't sit well with you, don't run or go somewhere else. It's why trailers have wheels and racetracks don't.
Word to the wise: if you start to demand equal payout for the money paid in, the rules of the game change. You better be putting in fans then, and more than just friends and family. Again, the promoter is there to make money.
That’s why there are so few Sprint/Super Late Model weekly shows and nearly every dirt track has mods, stocks and compacts. Heck, even the mods are getting pricey...but that's beside the point. It doesn't matter what classes. The bottom of the list is there to help pay for the top of it.
It’s because there aren’t enough fans to pay for the big money cars at most tracks. Once you demand big payouts, fan count needs to go up or you either 1. run for less or 2. don’t run at all. So next time you ask for more purse ask who's going to pay for it? You or the fans? I don't care HOW MUCH MONEY the promoter has personally, every, every, EVERY promoter will only pay for your fun for so long - and it's like a loan shark, not Santa Claus. Someone else will have to pay for this eventually.

Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Preview: Eagle Raceway
For nearly 25 years, Eagle Raceway has been a staple on the Advance Auto
Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule. The high-banked 1/3-mile
always provides tight racing with wheel-to-wheel action, making the annual
Eagle Nationals one of the most anticipated events on the schedule.
Since three-time Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
champion Sammy Swindell won at the track in 1981, 10 other drivers have
reached the winner's circle at the high-banked 1/3-mile. This year's edition
of the famed Eagle Nationals will take place on Saturday, June 14.
Donny Schatz leads the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
into Eagle Raceway on the strength of three consecutive wins and the
two-time defending series champion has five victories in the last six races.
The North Dakota native has four career wins at Eagle Raceway along with 20
career Top-10 finishes. He is the only driver that has finished in the
Top-10 in every race this season as he chases his third consecutive title.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion has won a total of 24
events at Eagle Raceway including preliminary feature dating back to 1981.
He has two A-Feature wins this season and is currently fifth in points. In
2005, he won four times at Eagle, leading every lap of feature racing
competition.
Jason Meyers has 10 Top-10 finishes in his career at Eagle Raceway. He was
fifth last season in the series lone visit to the Cornhusker State. He is
currently second in championship points on the strength of 15 Top-Five
finishes. He also has won five A-Feature events this season, including at
I-55 Raceway in Missouri, the only race the series has contested thus far on
a 1/3-mile track.
Craig Dollansky has two career wins at Eagle. He won a preliminary feature
in 2002 and also was victorious with the former World of Outlaws Gumout
Series in 2002 at the high-banked track. The native of Elk River, Minnesota
has 17 Top-10 finishes this season entering action this weekend and is third
in points.
Joey Saldana picked up his first career win at Eagle Raceway last season,
scoring a very emotional win with a number of family members from the
Lincoln, Nebraska area on-hand. In his career, he has 21 Top-10 finishes at
the track. He has 15 Top-10 finishes this season as he closes in on his
first A-Feature win of the year.
Jac Haudenschild has always been strong at Eagle Raceway, as he has racked
nearly 40 Top-10 finishes at the track. He has four career wins at the
high-banked 1/3-mile, with the World of Outlaws. He finished second last
season and the track and currently is sixth in points as he closes in on his
first win of the year.
Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finished
seventh in the Eagle Nationals last season. The native of St. Mary's, NSW,
Australia has 12 Top-10 finishes this season and is just 28 markers out of
the Top-Five.
Chad Kemenah finished sixth at Eagle Raceway last season driving his own
car. He is in the midst of his first full season behind the wheel for Hard
Eight Racing and has picked up eight Top-10 finishes and sits eighth in
points.
Shane Stewart, the 2005 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year last competed at
Eagle Raceway during his rookie season. The native of Bixby, Oklahoma picked
up his first A-Feature win of the 2008 season last Friday night at Knoxville
Raceway. He has eight Top-10 finishes this season, with seven of those being
in the Top-Five.
Terry McCarl won at Eagle Raceway earlier this season in a 360-sprint car.
He has six career victories at the track. The six-time Knoxville Raceway and
Huset's Speedway track champion has seven Top-10 finishes this season.
Daryn Pittman won the Eagle Nationals in 2006, sweeping both nights of the
event. He has 13 Top-10 finishes in his career at the high-banked facility.
He is just outside of the Top-10 in the current standings on the strength of
nine Top-10 finishes.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. has two career starts at Eagle Raceway, both with the
World of Outlaws. The native of Sunnyvale, Texas has had a very strong start
to his sophomore season with the series, picking up five Top10 finishes
through June 11.
Tim Shaffer won a preliminary feature at Eagle in 2003 and has 18 career
Top-10 finishes, including one last season. The 1999 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie
of the Year has four Top-10 finishes this season.
Kraig Kinser has five Top-10 finishes in his career at Eagle Raceway. He
picked up his second Top-Five of the season on Wednesday night at Sedalia's
State Fair Speedway in his first start at that track since 2005.
Jason Sides has nine Top-10 finishes in his career at Eagle Raceway. The
native of Bartlett, Tennessee has a couple of Top-10 finishes this season.
Tony Bruce Jr. finished fourth in his first career start at Eagle in 2005 in
a 360-sprint car. He has competed with the World of Outlaws at the track in
each of the last two seasons. He finished a season-best fourth last Friday
night at Knoxville Raceway.
Chad Hillier made his first start at Eagle last season. The sophomore driver
picked up his first Top-10 finish of the season on Sunday night at Tri-City
Speedway.
Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender Lucas Wolfe will miss the event
after sustaining an injury to his back on June 8 at Tri-City Speedway in
Illinois.
2007 Race Recap: Joey Saldana earned his first A-Feature win with the series
at Eagle Raceway.
Saldana powered his way to the lead on the eighth lap of the Eagle
Nationals, charging under Brooke Tatnell on the back straightaway, and then
holding off a furious charge from Jac Haudenschild over the last 10 laps of
the race.
The race began with polesitter Brooke Tatnell jumping to the early lead over
Steve Kinser and Haudenschild. It was slowed on the fourth lap when an
accident involving several cars that were running in the Top-10 got
together. Daryn Pittman got the worst of it getting upside, ending his
night. Also, Steve Kinser's night was over after the incident. The rest of
the cars involved including current series point leader Donny Schatz were
able to continue after going to the work area.
Saldana lined up sixth for the 40-lap event and gained a couple of spots on
the opening lap. He moved into the third spot on the fourth lap when the
accident occurred. On the ensuing restart, the native of Brownsburg, Indiana
dove under Haudenschild coming off the fourth turn to claim the runner-up
spot. He would then shadow Tatnell for three laps before making the pass for
the lead and ultimately the win.
Jac Haudenschild slipped by Tatnell late in the race to steal the runner-up
spot, with Danny Lasoski and Jason Meyers rounding out the Top-Five.

I-80 June 15 Agenda and Format
Because of all the rain we have received, obviously we have not been able to
have very many races. Therefore, this Sunday is going to be run a little
differently so please be patient with us.
Our IMCA crate late models will be running 1 heat race and double features.
One race will be lined-up from the heat races that were completed at the
Alphabet Soup Race. The second will be lined-up by 1 heat race. There will
also be a 10 minute time limit on these races.
Our Sport Compacts will have 1 heat (depending on the car count) consisting
of 6 laps with a 6 minute time limit (again, depending on the car count).
The top 12 of the top 15 cars will be inverted. The heat race will also pay.
The winner will get a $25 gift card from Cubbys. Also, the 5th place, 10th
place, 20th place will receive a $10 gift card. The feature will consist of
12 laps with a 10 minute time limit.
Also, we are adding the Pro Am class which will run 2 "A" features and no
heat races. These are not point races. Line-ups will be off of a draw. Both
features will also have a 10 minute time limit.
If there are 4 yellows in any of these classes, the race will be finished.
Also, laps and races will vary depending on the car count.
B Mods, IMCA A Mods, and SLMR will run a regular schedule heat race and
feature this week.
Rest of week a wash for USMTS
WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (June 11) - Regional weather woes have
forced USMTS officials to scrap the remaining events for
this week. As if devastating tornados two weeks ago
weren't enough, widespread flooding in the Northeast Iowa
area has forced the closure of dozens of roadways and many
people are preparing for more forecasted rain.
The event slated for Wednesday, June 11, at the Highway 3
Raceway in Allison, Iowa, was canceled earlier this week,
and today USMTS officials were forced to pull the plug on
the two remaining races for this week.
The event on Thursday, June 12, at the Fayette County
Speedway in West Union, Iowa, has been postponed to a date
to be determined.
This Friday's race at the Tri-Oval Speedway in Fountain
City, Wis., has been postponed to Friday, Aug. 15, and
will now be a part of the Casey's General Stores Hunt for
the O'Reilly USMTS National Championship.
The O'Reilly USMTS National Tour will return to action on
Monday, June 16, for NASCAR Night presented by Karl
Chevrolet at the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines,
Iowa.
The USMTS is celebrating its 10th Anniversary Season in
2008 with many special promotions to show thanks to the
fans, drivers, team members, families and sponsors who
have helped make the USMTS the premier dirt modified
series in the nation.

Drivers Notes:
Back Row Challenge Sprint Format-
-Draw for heat race starting position
-Top 3 or 4 heat finishers(depending on # of heats) will fill the front of A Feature heads up. The winners of the heats will redraw on the front stretch for their starting positions.
-The remainder of the A Feature field will be filled out of the Consi.
-The Back Row Challenge: The driver on the pole will be offered a $1000 bonus if he will give up his starting position to move to the rear of the field and win.
-If the driver on the pole does not accept, the challenge will be given to the driver starting in the 2nd position, etc. until the challenge is accepted.
-The race will be a total of 30 laps with a 5 minute open red at lap 20 allowing crews to work on the cars before the final 10 lap dash to the finish.
-$1500 to win plus a possible $1000 bonus and $180 to start.
Notice to IMCA Hobbys and Sport Compacts: You will be IMCA sanctioned and running for track points
Sprint Rules Clarification:
-The only nights for the rest of the 2008 race season that a wicker bill will be allowed, will be the ASCS nights. A decision on the wing rules for 2009 will be decided in the off season. Sorry for any confusion on this matter, but Eagle Raceway does not want everyone thinking that they need to buy more wings incurring more expense.
Transponders and Check in:
-Transponders being checked out and all drivers checking in must be done down at the pit garage and with shut down at 7:00 pm. If you sign in after 7:00 pm, you will be required to start at the rear of the heats.
"Be Our Guest" passes and "Buy One Get One Free" coupons are not good for this special event.

Deshler Daze & Thayer County Speedway Mod Bonus
DESHLER, NE (June 8, 2008) - Friday June 13th will be the start of the
Deshler Daze weekend in Deshler and Belleville Motorsports night at the
Speedway. Belleville Motorsports will kick in an extra $250 to the Budweiser
IMCA Modified Feature winner making it $650 to win!
After the races the Thayer County Ag Society will sponsor a dance with music
by the band Bourbon Street. With your paid admission into the races you will
get into the dance for free. So come out and watch some great racing action

USMTS Events at Allison, West Union To Raise Money For Parkersburg Tornado Victims
PARKERSBURG, Iowa (June 6) – When the United States
Modified Touring Series travels into Northern Iowa next
week, race fans will not only have the opportunity to
witness some of the best Modified racers in America,
they'll also be helping out families that were devastated
by a tornado on May 25 that left eight people dead and
destroyed more than 200 houses and damaged hundreds of
others.
While race teams from all across America's heartland will
be driving their rigs into the Highway 3 Raceway in
Allison on Wednesday, June 11, residents of the small town
of Parkersburg, located just 12 miles south of Allison,
will still be busy cleaning up after the disaster and
rebuilding their town.
According to news reports, more than half of Parkersburg -
a town of 1,900 people - was destroyed, including several
hundred homes, the city hall and high school. The path of
the tornado that churned through Parkersburg and several
other communities was up to a mile wide. Two additional
people were killed in New Hartford and nearly 70 others
were injured in the region. Debris from Parkersburg was
discovered as far away as LaCrosse, Wis.
USMTS officials invite the residents of Parkersburg to
take a well-deserved night off and come enjoy an evening
at the races on us.
At both the Allison race on Wednesday, and at the Fayette
County Speedway in West Union on Thursday, the USMTS will
donate $2 from every adult grandstand ticket sold to the
Tornado Relief Fund. In addition, every person with a
Parkersburg drivers license will get into the night's
events FREE of charge.
"This is home base for us," said USMTS president and
promoter Todd Staley. "Our hometown and offices are a
short drive west of here in Webster City, and the
heartbeat of the USMTS is in Northern Iowa and Southern
Minnesota."
In addition to the USMTS, Staley also operates the United
States Racing Association (USRA), which sanctions weekly
auto racing at several tracks in the region.
"My family and I drove through Parkersburg last weekend."
Staley added. "The photos you see on the news and the
Internet don't come close to doing justice to the actual
devastation these folks have suffered. Most of our fans,
drivers and their crew members have friends or family from
that area, or know somebody affected by this disaster.
It's our hope that our small contribution to the relief
efforts will have a positive effect on the people of
Parkersburg and the surrounding towns hit by this
tornado."
In addition to donating $2 from every adult grandstand
ticket to the Parkersburg Tornado Relief Fund, race fans
can also pick up $2 off coupons on race day at Casey's
General Stores locations in Allison, Aplington, Cedar
Falls and Clarksville for the Wednesday, June 11, event at
the Highway 3 Raceway, and at Casey's General Stores
locations in Fredericksburg, Oelwein, Ossian and Postville
for the Fayette County Speedway event on Thursday, June
12.
As part of the festivities each race night, drivers will
walk through the grandstands with their helmets and
collect donations from generous race fans. Already,
several sponsors have also pledged to offer financial
contributions during the events, and a handful of drivers
have expressed that they plan to donate their winnings
each night to the relief effort too.

Eagle Raceway Kid's Night Bike Challenge
Once again, Roger has challenged all drivers for Kid's Night Bike Donations:
For every two bikes a driver commits to, he'll buy one bike!
The ending number of bikes last year was 262. That number of bikes was above
and beyond our expectations, and I THANK each and everyone who donated and
made that evening the BEST EVER Kid's Night in Eagle Raceway's history. It
was a record breaking crowd along with the record breaking amount of bikes
given away by all who sponsored...again, we THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Most donated $40 last year to cover the cost of a bike and the extra went
towards the items given away at the front gate. This year, due to the rising
cost of fuel/shipping prices, our bikes have gone up in price. The cost of a
bike will be $42.25
Our goal is for each child to go home with a little something!
I will need to take a count first of the bikes to be ordered and assembled.
The deadline date for my final count and money to be collected will be on
Saturday, July 12th.
I will be attending the first available night of racing's pit meeting, to
talk to all the Driver's & Teams. We also will be coming around to all the
driver's and teams pit areas if we haven't been contacted.

Butler County Motorplex 6-6-08
RISING CITY, Neb. (June 6, 2008) - The rains finally gave Butler County Motorplex some relief and allowed for the second night of
racing at the speedway. Bob Zoubek took the first checkered flag of the night as he won the
first IMCA Modified heat race. Mike Densberger was second with Terry Richards third and
Chris Alcorn fourth. James Kleinheksel took the win in heat number two followed by Scott
Styskal, Adrian Hein Jr., and Mark Kaspar.
Shawn Turner got the win in the first IMCA Sport Compact heat race with Amanda Rhiley in
second. Mike Simpson was third and Jeremy Noonan took fourth. Dan Rhiley controlled the
second heat with Ben Simpson second, Garrett Rech third and Jeremy Shanahan fourth.
Rod Bronson led the pack in the IMCA Sport Modified heat race and took the win. Max
Harder finished second with Steve Swarthout third and Nick Hermsen was fourth.
Shannon Anderson found the quick path around the track in the first of three IMCA Hobby
Stock heat races. Anderson took the win as Branden Kresha finished second. Brent Van
Diest and Danny Lane rounded out the top four. Nick Beckman won the second heat as
Quinten Spragg, Kyle Hein and Ethan Johnson challenged. Dusty Poessnecker took the win
in the final Hobby Stock heat race. Matt Fralin was second, Kyle Bond third, and Shane
Schneider was fourth.
Shane Hiatt controlled the IMCA Hobby Stock B feature after tire trouble took him out of the
heat race early in the race. Hiatt took the win as Jim Rayburn finished second. Justin Wulf
was third and Duane Schroeder took fourth. The other drivers earning transfer positions
were Timithoy Miller, Mike GOldfuss, Nick Topil and Jerrid Becker.
IMCA Sport Compact driver Shawn Turner won the A feature with a best average lap speed of
66.092 mph. Amanda Rhiley moved up to finish second followd by Ben Simpson and Garret
Rech.
Rod Bronson took his second win of the night as he controlled the IMCA Sport Mod feature.
Steve Swarthout finished in second with Denny Berghahn Jr. in third and Nathan Kobus
finished fourth.
Shane Schneider took the early lead in the IMCA Hobby Stock A feature but Dusty
Poessnecker took the lead on lap number two and continued for the win. Schnieder held on
for second place. Brandon Kresha moved up to third on the fourth lap and finished in that
position as Quinten Spragg finished fourth.
Terry Richards took the lead in the IMCA Modified feature and continued his lead for six laps.
A yellow flag came out at that point of the race as James Kleinheksel had mechanical
problems. Chris Alcorn took the lead as the race resumed and Alcorn continued for the win.
Terry Richards remained in second place with Bob Zoubek third and Scott Styskal finished
fourth.
Next week Butler County Motorplex is scheduled to host the “Up Rising” with an added purse
for the drivers. We all hope the weather will cooperate and let the show happen.

Eagle Raceway: Becker, Jurgens, Hall, Rice and Busboom Soak up the Track!
EAGLE, Neb. (June 7, 2008) - The folks who decided to skip tonight’s racing due to the threatening weather missed a fantastic night of racing on the best track so far this year. Despite over 4 inches of rain on Thursday, Eagle’s track prep crew hit another home run thanks to numerous hours of work during the week. Although no track lap records were broken, times closely approaching them were run throughout the evening. The fast track also led to all of the A Features being won by drivers snagging their first regular season victories.
In the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Feature #1 Mike Rice took the point in his #24 with the #45 of Jack Prall IV in second, the 5 of Larry Cronin in third and Jeremy Noonan’s #33 in fourth. It took last week’s feature winner Dan Rhiley only 3 laps to advance into the 5th spot, and he then got around Cronin for fourth on the ensuing lap. Lap 5 saw Jack Prall III’s #44 move up to 5th, but he was then passed by the 77 of Jason Miller on lap 6. Three laps later, Miller moved around Cronin for fourth. By lap 10 Rice had all but checked out, but the racing was fast & furious behind him. On lap 13 Rhiley got under Prall IV in traffic, followed by Miller. The checkered flag saw Rice first by a wide margin, with Rhiley, Prall IV, Miller and Prall III battling to the very end. As Prall IV came out of turn #4 on the cool-down lap the rear of his race car was enveloped in flames that were quickly extinguished by Eagle’s wonderful Fire & Rescue crew.
Mike Rice’s comments were similar to all of this evening’s winners, in that he was thrilled to have finally gotten a victory. “Roger and the crew did one heck of a job prepping the track this week, considering all of the rain we had. It was nice and smooth, and that made all of the difference this week” he stated. “I’ve only been racing for 2 years now, and to win at Eagle is really sweet” he continued. “I want to thank my pit crew, who are my Dad Dan and Greg Winningham; and a big thanks to Scott Bumgardner for selling me this car” he finished. Joey Danley’s #14 lead the way at the end of the first lap of the action-packed second Sport Compact A Main, followed by Brian Haller’s #T32, the 22 of Elliot Halvorsen and Chris LaChappelle in the #31. On the second circuit Ben Simpson shot his #72 into the second position from 5th. At that time the running order was 14, 72, 31 and the 51 of Amanda Rhiley who had advanced into fourth. The action continued with passes on nearly every lap among the top 5 spots. LaChappelle got into 2nd on lap 3 and Simpson advanced to first on the next lap. The next lap saw Amanda get up to the second position followed by the #62 of Justin Busboom in third. Two laps later, Busboom moved to second behind Simpson with LaChapelle in third and Rhiley in fourth. With just 4 laps remaining Danley got around Rhiley for 4th, only to have her pass him back later in the lap to retake fourth position.
Busboom began his interview by joking that “My wife says my biggest challenge in winning is just getting into the car every ”. “Even though I managed to win the Icebreaker Challenge this year, this is my first regular season win ever. I want to thank Roger and the crew for all of their hard work and the great job they did, giving us such a fantastic track tonight. I also want to give special thanks to my mother and father, I just wish he could have been here to see this” he finished.

Next up was the Valentino’s MICA Hobby Stocks. Don Hall Jr. led the pack back to the start/finish line with the 9ER of Charlie Bartels, Derick Noonan’s #21 and the 12 of Dan Noonan in hot pursuit. On lap #2 Lee Kracht got around Dan Noonan to grab fourth and then pressured Derick Noonan into bobbling, allowing Kracht to move into third. Four laps later Derick shot past both Kracht and Bartels to take over second, followed by Kracht who moved back into the third spot. Kevin Anderson advanced to the fourth position on lap 11 in his #22K. Derick Noonan got loose on the very last lap, allowing Kracht to take over the second spot. At the finish it was Hall Jr., Kracht, Derick Noonan, Anderson and the #38C of Casey Moyer in fifth.
“I have to credit my starting position for the win tonight. All it took was to hit my marks, miss the ruts in turn 1, stay in the lead and not get airborne by hitting the tires in the infield” Hall Jr. said. “The track was so tacky and fast all night that it was a pretty smooth race, and it helped that we went Green/White/Checkers” he continued. “I need to send a big thank you out to my wife, my daughters, my father Don Hall Sr. and all of my friends and crew. They make it a lot of fun to come out to Eagle and race every week” he finished. The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds took to Eagle’s high banks next for their feature race. Bob Ruisinger’s #7 grabbed the early lead, followed by Dan Wayman in the 5ST, Ed “Doc” Raines in the 11AA and Justin Jurgens in the 22J. On the second lap Wayman, Raines and Jurgens all passed Ruisinger, relegating him to the fourth position. Two laps later Jurgens moved into first, followed by Raines for second on the next lap. By lap 6, Dylan Smith had moved all the way up to the third position. With 8 laps left Rik Gropp got around Smith to take the third position with Chevy Hadan moving his #4 around Gropp for third with just 3 circuits remaining. The finishing order was Jurgens, Raines, Hadan and the #3 of Chris Alcorn.
“This is my second year at Eagle, and finally my first win in an ‘A Mod’. I started out racing mini-sprints for four years, and then 1 year in an ‘E Mod’ before moving up last year out here” Justin said. “It was so nice to finally get over the bad luck we’ve had all year. We made some really big changes on the car after a lot of discussion and planning this week, and they paid off in a big way” he continued. When asked about tonight’s track conditions, Jurgens stated “All I can say is that it was BAD FAST!!! Roger and everyone did a whale of a job, and thankfully we avoided the rain.” “I need to thank my Dad Jim, Cory Jensen, my sister Ashlea and Dan for all of their help. I also need to send out a special thanks to Lorene Fielder and Ray & Sue Parde” he finished. Last on the evening’s card was the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprints. Brad Wright’s #27, Bobby Becker Jr.’s #8B and the 23 of Terry Holliman were first at the completion of the first lap. The yellow flag flew on lap #3 when Josh Riggins hooked a rut in turns 1 # 2, flipping his #14 sprinter. On the restart, Becker got around Wright, only to have the pass negated when Trevor Grossenbacher spun and made contact with the back stretch wall forcing yet another restart. It took 2-time defending track champion Mike Boston 5 more laps before he could advance into the third position behind Becker. On the next lap, Becker got around Wright to take a lead he never relinquished. Boston pressured him continuously after moving into the second spot on lap 11, with Holliman retaking third on the same lap. Despite several valiant efforts, Becker held off Boston to grab the victory.
“Last year the Lincoln Journal/Star did a story about Jeff Griffis and I and how we’d been racing forever out here at Eagle. I ran 1 year of IMCA sprints at I-80 in 1999 before coming here in 2000. I just never left I guess” Becker said. “My car ran really great tonight, although I almost lost the header in my heat race. Honestly, I was so squirrelly at times I think Mike was just afraid to pass me” Becker joked. “Before that last restart, I think I was kind of dozing off, but when Mike hit me from behind that woke me up and I just took off” he continued. “I want to thank my 2 sons, Jason and Kevin, Brian, Larry, Mike Jorgenson and Skip Smith. My boys have been pushing me so much the last couple of years that I HAD to win. Now I’ll spend the next four weeks trying not to mess up and erase this great win” he finished. I-80 Wants to Help Adams County Speedway
As you probably have heard or seen in pictures, Adams County Speedway has caught the brunt of the 2008 storms and is under water. In 2006 a windstorm tore up I-80 Speedway and the ACS staff worked right beside us to help rebuild.
In an effort to help ACS with deductibles and get their facilities back in running order, this Sunday night, June 8, I-80 Speedway will be donating ALL GRANDSTAND PROCEEDS FROM AN IOWA PATRON TO ADAMS COUNTY SPEEDWAY (just show your Iowa drivers license).

Sprint Rules Clarification:
-The only nights for the rest of the 2008 race season that a wicker bill will be allowed, will be the ASCS nights. A decision on the wing rules for 2009 will be decided in the off season. Sorry for any confusion on this matter, but Eagle Raceway does not want everyone thinking that they need to buy more wings incurring more expense.
Transponders and Check in:
-Transponders being checked out and all drivers checking in must be done down at the pit garage and with shut down at 6:30 pm. If you sign in after 6:30 pm, you will be required to start at the rear of the heats. (Note eagleraceway.com rules page, section I, number 1.)
Back Row Challenge June 13th:
-Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts will be sanctioned IMCA and will be a points night.

O'Reilly ASCoT – Northern Swing is Up Next!
A full contingent of 13 full-time ASCoT competitors will take on all variety of Regional and local hotshoes when the series takes to three tracks throughout Iowa and South Dakota from June 20 to June 28.
It all starts on Friday night, June 20, when the series invades the hallowed grounds of Iowa's Knoxville Raceway at the Marion County Fairgrounds, marking the series first time on the half-mile oval outside of the track's annual 360 Nationals. The ASCoT National series will be joined by the ASCS Midwest Region as well as a full complement of Knoxville Raceway regulars for the Friday night card.
Then four nights later, on Tuesday, June 24, it's on to Hartford, South Dakota's I-90 Speedway for the second year in a row, with the Northern Swing concluding on Saturday night, June 28, at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD. The ASCoT National forces will be bolstered by the ASCS Northern Plains Regional shoes at both South Dakota events. Jason Johnson topped both the Hartford and Huron events last year.
The 2008 season has been a wildly unpredictable one thus far for the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour, with ten different drivers already reaching victory lane through the opening 13 feature events of the season, including five drivers that have posted a first career series win.
One thing that's not a surprise though is that four-time and reigning ASCS National champion Gary Wright sits atop the point charts. Gunning for an unprecedented fifth consecutive series crown, "The Texan" has finished among the top ten in all 13 feature events this season.
Wright's consistency has resulted in a 38-point advantage with the initial one-third of the season essentially in the record books. While Wright has reached victory lane just once thus far however, it is Jason Johnson that has recently climbed into second in points on the strength of four feature wins.
After earning runner-up honors in ASCS National points over each of the past two seasons, Louisiana's Johnson ranks as the only driver to post more than one National victory this year. And he has piled on to the win count, allowing "The Ragin' Cajun" to chip away at the deficit incurred when forced to use a provisional starting position in an early season feature event.
Just 12 more points back in third is Oklahoma City native Wayne Johnson. The past ASCS National champion that now calls Knoxville, IA, home is the only driver other than Wright to start all 13 feature events without the aid of a provisional. While shut out of victory lane thus far, Johnson has finished among the top ten in 12 of 13 mains.
The trio of Zach Chappell, Travis Rilat and Garry Lee Maier have been dicing for position throughout the year, with Talala, Oklahoma's Chappell currently in fourth, Rilat of Forney, TX, in fifth and Cimarron, KS, racer Maier in sixth. Chappell, Rilat and Maier are all past ASCS National champions, making for five past series champions among the top six in points. Only Jason Johnson has yet to claim a crown.
Twenty-year-old Eric Baldaccini of Keller, TX, is currently ranked seventh in points and leading the way in the Brodix Rookie of the Year points chase. Baldaccini leads a talented Rookie crop that includes Sapulpa, Oklahoma's Kenneth Walker (ninth), Washington-state native Gary Taylor (12th), seventeen-year-old Kathryne Minter of Bedford, TX, (13th) and Greenville, TX, shoe Chris Tarrant (14th).
Adding an April 26 National win to an earlier Sooner Region victory, Nick Smith of Broken Arrow, OK, enters the Northern Swing on the upswing at eighth in points.
Rounding out the contingent of full-time ASCS National Tour travelers is 20-year-old Donnie Ray Crawford of Tulsa, OK. Crawford took the seat of Bobby Sparks' No. 91 entry during the series Red River Shootout at State Fair Speedway and Devil's Bowl Speedway on May 9-10 and posted his first career top-five feature finish in Sprint Car action with a fifth-place ASCS Sooner Region run at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway this past Saturday night.
Completing the current top ten in ASCS National driver points is 18-year-old Jack Dover of Springfield, NE, who captured his first career National win at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway on May 9.
Fargo, North Dakota's Natalie Sather kicks off her ASCS Midwest Region title defense at the June 20 Knoxville Raceway event, while 20-year-old Lee Grosz of Harwood, ND, opens his ASCS Northern Plains Region title defense as well during the upcoming Northern Swing.

I-80 Alphabet Soup Rescheduled
June 4, 2008 - I-80 Speedway and Eagle Raceway have teamed up to give you
two action packed nights of Super Late Model Racing! The Alphabet Soup Race
at I-80 Speedway has been rescheduled for July 2 at 7:00 and Eagle Raceway
will host the Super Late Models on July 3 starting at 7:30. Both tracks are
also offering free on-site camping.
The Alphabet Soup race will be completely reran with Super Late Model
qualifying races (there will be no group time trials) at 7:00. IMCA
Modifieds and IMCA Hobby Stock will run their entire show also. The ticket
stubs and pitpasses from the May 25th rainout will be honored on July 2nd.
IMCA crate models will not be running July 2nd. They will race their feature
June 8 to keep the July 2nd show timely.
As a thank-you for all you die-hard fans that braved the weather on May 25,
just show your green ticket stub at the grandstand ticket window this
Sunday, June 8 to receive free admission to the June 8 races but keep you
stub for re-admittance to the July 2nd show. See you at the Races!

title sponsorship of the 2008 Speedway Motors Belleville Midget Nationals in
Belleville, Kansas.
Widely regarded as the most prestigious midget race in the country, the
Speedway Motors Belleville Midget Nationals attracts some of racing's top
talents to compete on the world's fastest Tru-half-mile dirt track. Many
racers consider the contest to be a stepping stone to the nation's top

Eagle Raceway: Dover, Alcorn, Lane, Dreamer and Rhiley Take the Win
EAGLE, NEB (May 31, 2008) - Despite heavy rains on Thursday night, Eagle
Raceway's Fan Appreciation and Scout Night saw a very large crowd in the
stands under sunny skies and a slight breeze. Although the track was
slightly dusty for the first few heats, the moisture came up before the
features events started, making for some fantastic racing.
The heat races saw only 2 major incidents, both in the Budweiser
Championship 360 Sprints. Jay Jordan flipped his #19J sprinter and was slid
into by the #99C of Nick Clifford. A fire ensued, but was quickly
extinguished thanks to the Eagle Raceway Fire & Rescue crews. The other flip
saw 18 year-old Jack "The Gas Man" Dover go end over end several times
before coming to rest in turn 1.
In the first Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A feature, Ron Frank
grabbed the lead in his 18R with Joey Danley's 14 and the #4 of David
Tadlock tight on his rear bumper. Frank held the point until the 3rd lap
when Derek Dreamer shot his #26 into the lead, moving Frank to second
followed by Amanda Rhiley in the 51 who advanced to third. On lap 8, Justin
Busboom's 62 advanced to the third spot. The running order remained the same
to the finish.
"The track was rough, and a little dry to start but the after the hobbies
and compacts ran the moisture started to come up" Dreamer said. "I found the
high line and just kept my foot in it and came home first" he continued.
This was Derek's A feature win in this, his second year of racing. "I have
to thank everyone who helped get this win for us. My crew, John and Blaine,
my wife and kids, and all of my sponsors" Derek finished. Derek's sponsors
include Trackside Bar & Grill, Reynoldson Motors, Moock Trucking, Crow's
Seed, G & H Farms, Drueke Trucking, CD's Express, Langfeldt Overhead Door,
Eastern Nebraska Grain, Midwest Farmer's Coop, Riggs Trucking and Schnepf
Farms.
In the second Sport Compact A Main, Ben Simpson steered his #72 into first
place with Joey Danley and the #18 of Maynard Kinnersley behind him. It only
took 1 lap for Dan Rhiley to pilot his #2 into third place, and only one
more lap to take over second position. This relegated Kinnersley to third.
On the next circuit, Rhiley got around Simpson to snag a lead he would hold
to the end. That didn't mean that the action was over though, because on lap
12 Barry Kinnersley began a fierce battle with his father Maynard. Barry
managed to move past his father before a yellow came out for debris on the
track. On the last lap, Scott Bumgardner got past Berry as Simpson fell
back. At the checkers the order was Rhiley, Bumgardner, Barry Kinnersley and
the #77 of Jason Miller.
"I've been racing now for 3 years" Rhiley stated, "but this past winter I
decided to make a run at the national championship. So, over the winter we
got several cars ready so that we could have 1 car for each track". "We've
been running all over the place this year. I-80, Beatrice, and we won last
night down in Odessa, Missouri" he said. "I've actually been thinking of
moving up next year to a modified, depending on the price of fuel of course.
But, I wanted to win that championship before I leave the compacts. Right
now, I believe I'm in the lead nationally even though we haven't been
running very well lately" he continued. Dan's sponsors include Ray's Quality
Towing, 2 men & a Shop, R & M Roll Cages, Max I Walker, Profit Advantage and
2 Men Auto Sales.
The Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature was next. Danny Lane's #17J was
the leader after the first lap, followed by the 21 of Derick Noonan and Rick
Munson's M70. On the ensuing lap, Don Hall Jr. moved his #92 into third
followed by the #14 of Ron Novak. Hall took only 2 more laps to get around
Noonan for second. Following a yellow flag on lap 8, Kevin Anderson got
around Novak for third, and moved around Hall for second position on the
next lap. Shortly after that, Hall made contact with a marker tire in turns
1 & 2 and fell back allowing Novak to retake third. The last few circuits
saw a terrific contest between Anderson and Lane, with the two racers making
contact coming out of turn #4. Lane managed to hold Anderson off for the
victory.
Lane's victory was the first in his year and a half career of racing. "I
want to dedicate this win to my father, who passed away 10 years ago. I know
he'd have been happy" Danny stated. "I thought we were done for on that one
restart. My car just died, but going into the backstretch it came back to
life and I just took off from there. I just held on and put my foot to the
floor" he continued. "I need to thank so many folks" Danny said, "including
my Mom Janine and my girlfriend Angie. I can't forget Nick Beckman, Jason
Oswalt and Steve. They helped me get the car dialed in finally, because
we've been really lost this year". "To be honest, I wasn't even planning on
showing up this week. But, all my sponsors got together, gave us some
financial help and said 'Just bring your helmet and driving suit'. So, here
I am with a win" he finished. Danny's sponsors include Speedy Steve's High
Performance, Athey Painting, Slechta Drywall, Casey's Auto Body & Detailing,
Husker Poker and Scott's Auto Detailing.
Next, the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds were on the track. The 11N of
Nathan Landauer was first back to the start finish line. Close behind him
were the #00 of Tim Pickens and the 3W of Stacey Wilhelm. On the next
circuit, Pickens moved around Landauer to grab the lead. On the third lap,
Terry Richards hit the front stretch wall hard coming out of turn #4.
Richards was forced to retire from competition. On the restart the 8C of
Chad Anderson moved into second, followed by Doug Deterding in the #13. It
took just 1 lap for both Anderson and Deterding to advance to the top 2
positions, and 1 more for 2-time defending champion Chris Alcorn to take
over third after advancing from his 5th row outside starting position. Only
2 more circuits were in the books before Alcorn took over a lead he would
hold to the finish. Deterding also passed Anderson for second, but could
hold him off for only 2 laps before relinquishing the spot. Alcorn cruised
to the victory by nearly a straightaway.
"The car was good in the heat, but a little tight. So, we loosened it up a
little for the feature. From there, I just bided my time and tried to figure
out where the car wanted to run. Pretty soon I thought I'd better see just
how fast the car was, so I started pushing it. I avoided the rough spots,
but after that race I'll admit that I'm worn out" Alcorn said. "I want to
thank my crew. Jeff Hill, Jim Waline, Roger Hinrichs and Sarah Ehlers help
me by making the car so fast." Alcorn's sponsors include Independent
Equipment, Midwest Unlimited, Heavy Company, Onyx Digital Group, Spanel
Engines, Morris Racing and ATH Motorsports.
The final event of the evening was the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprint
Feature. Mark Pace's #31, Larry Pinegar II in the #44 and Frank Galusha's
#24B were the first three in line at the completion of the first lap. Jack
Dover took just 7 laps to bring his #53 into fourth place. Three laps later
the #76 of Jay Russell and Kevin Danley's #7X got together in turn 4,
bringing out the yellow. On the restart, Dover moved around Danley for third
and 4 laps later got around Pinegar for 2nd. It took Dover just one more
time around the high banks to move into first place. Terry Holliman made
hard contact with the turn 1 wall on lap 15, bringing out another caution.
On the restart, defending points champion Mike Boston got around Pinegar to
take over third, but gave the spot back on the next lap. At the stripe, it
was Dover, Pace, Pinegar and Boston.
"We pretty much broke everything on the car in that accident" Dover stated;
"The front end, the rear end, we even bent the frame. Afterwards, I wasn't
even going to race anymore tonight. We didn't have our regular crew tonight,
but we did have a bunch of volunteers who really worked hard tonight. I
actually told them to just put it back together good enough so we could get
it in the trailer and go home". ""I went and changed clothes while they
worked on the car. Then I had to rush to put my driving suit back on for the
B feature. When we made the A, my dad asked me whether I wanted anything
changed, and I told him 'No, we've got some flex in it now'. We did make a
couple of small changes, and I really was just hoping to make the top 5. I
guess that shows how strong the Eagle Chassis and Eckley Racing engine in
the car really are. " Jack continued. "We love coming here to Eagle, and
even though we won't be here every week, you'll be seeing us quite a lot
since we're not chasing points anywhere" he finished. "I want to thank my
mother and father, who are also my car owners. And, of course, I need to
thank my sponsors for helping my get out there every week to compete" he

Father's Day at I-80 This Weekend
Greenwood, NE (June 2, 2008) - Fathers at I-80 Speedway will have lots to
celebrate at I-80 Speedway on Sunday, June 8 as Craftsman Tools and Pegler
Sysco Foods present the night's festivities and racing action.
Craftsman Tools will be giving away merchandise all night, and dads will
compete at intermission to see who has the fastest hands at changing
diapers. Ralston DQ Kids Club members will get to make their dads cards,
and will get a chance to present them with a hand potted plant.
NAPA will host a $300 to win Ty's Outdoor Power & Service Hobby Stock
feature race that night. Besides the hobby stocks, fans can also catch the
Dodge NASCAR late Models, Great Clips NASCAR Modifieds, Certified
Trasnmission NASCAR Pro Ams, IMCA Crate Models and IMCA Sport Compacts.
Racing on Sunday is slated to start at 5:55 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30 p.m.
Pit Gates open at 2:30 p.m. and front gate open at 4:30 p.m. Ticket prices
are $8 for adults, $5 for juniors 13-18 with ID, $1 for kids 5-12 and kids
under 5 are free.
Next week on Sunday, June 15 Ty's Outdoor Power & Service presents racing at
