Three first time winners at Red Cloud

By Mike Hughes

RED CLOUD, NE (June 29)—Three new faces graced victory lane at The Speed
Bowl in Red Cloud, NE, Friday evening, June 29. Two of those included
the father and son duo of Jerry and Josh Hudson of Kensington, who
pulled off the hat trick for the second time in a week, as both won last
Saturday night at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS.

Jerry took the lead on lap 2 of the IMCA Hobby Stock feature from Pat
Hersh and led to the only caution in the 14-lap race on lap 6 when
Andrew Lovegrove drove off turn 4. Hudson led the field back to green,
followed by Joe McDole, and heat race winners Kyle Bond and Jim Buss.
The top seven were close throughout the race but Hudson held on to win
his first feature of the year at Red Cloud. McDole finished a close
second, trailed by Bond, Buss, and Murray Haugan II.

Jason McCartney led the first half of the 18-lap IMCA Stock Car feature
before Josh Hudson made the pass for a lead he would not relinquish.
Hudson was first at the checkers, his first Speed Bowl win this year,
followed by Jason Smidt, McCartney, Jason Davis and heat two winner Matt
Streit. Jared Remus won the other heat race.

'The Red Cloud Rocket' Lonnie Schriner won his third IMCA Modified
feature at his hometown track. Heat one winner Tim Watts led the first 4
laps before Schriner took the top spot. Schriner led at the halfway mark
of the 20-lap race, while Brandon Blochlinger, Jordan Grabouski and
Watts were hooked up in a heated race for second. But both Watts and
Grabouski went to the pits during the event, ending their night.
Schriner took the win, followed by Blochlinger, Scott Smith, Larry
Sutton and Lonnie Veteto. Heat one winner Troy Johnson was sixth.

Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe won their fifth Cruiser feature of the year at
the 3/8-mile oval. Terry Gradig & Jeremy Teselle were second. David

Brown is the McCool Man in ASCS Midwest Region

By Lonnie Wheatley

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (June 29, 2007) – After opening the season with five different winners in as many events, the American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region had its first repeat winner of the year on Friday night as Missouri's Brian Brown raced to victory lane in the 25-lap feature at Junction Motor Speedway.

Brown, who won the season opener at I-80 Speedway on April 14, chased down race-long leader Jason Danley in lapped traffic and made a move into the lead on the 24th lap to snare his eighth career ASCS Midwest Region feature win aboard Tim and Gina Doogs' Ostrich-powered No. 21 Maxim.

Brian Brown and the Moses Motor Company girls in victory lane Friday night at Junction Motor Speedway. (Racetracker Photos)

"Jason (Danley) ran a great race tonight and he doesn't have anything to be ashamed of," Brown commented from victory lane. "He just got caught up with that lapped car and I got by. I'd like to thank Tim and Gina Doogs for giving me a great car tonight, they are like family to me!"

While Brown gridded the feature field fifth, it was polesitter Danley outgunning Jake Peters for the early lead. Danley needed just three laps to open up a straightaway lead over Peters and Toby Chapman, with Brown taking fourth from Chuck Swenson on the sixth lap.

With Danley working lapped traffic, Brown battled past Chapman for third on the eight lap then took second from Peters two laps later. The caution flew soon after, when Chapman made contact with a lapped car at the midway point and came to a stop with a broken shock.

Back under way, Danley once again pulled away, leaving Brown and Peters to battle for second. But as Danley encountered lapped traffic on the 19th circuit, Brown began to close the gap. Brown raced into the lead with a lap-and-a-half to go and cruised to the win.

Danley settled for second, with Peters taking the show position. Ryan Roberts crossed the stripe fourth, with Chuck Swenson rounding out the top five. Skip Jackson was sixth, with Ryan Anderson, Mike Chadd, Jack Dover and Don Droud, Jr., completing the top ten.

After transferring from "B" Main action, Natalie Sather retained a slim 13-point lead in ASCS Midwest Region points by advancing to eleventh in the main event.

Swenson, Rick Ideus and Danley topped heat race action, with Mike Boston winning the "B" Main.

Butler County USMTS dropped, new tracks added

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (July 28) — The drivers and teams of the O'Reilly Auto
Parts United States Modified Touring Series are on a brief but well-deserved
break as the month of July nears, but officials are busy working behind the
scenes as they get ready for 28 National Events in 52 days that will wrap up
the most exciting O'Reilly USMTS season ever and crown the ninth O'Reilly
USMTS national champion.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, one track closing and in an effort to
balance the number of regional events with quality venues for drivers and
fans, a few changes have been made to the National Events schedule for late
July and early August.

Citing financial reasons, the promoter at the Butler County Motorplex in
Rising City, Neb., has canceled the inaugural event there scheduled for
Monday, July 16. Therefore, the next event for the O'Reilly USMTS will be
Tuesday, July 17, at the Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for a $2,000-to-win
Western Region showdown. Despite thermostats peaking at a near-record 108
degrees for this event last year, more than 1,500 race fans were on hand to
witness a full field of cars and sizzling on-track action at the historic
1/3-mile high-banked oval. With one of the largest weekly Modified car
counts in the nation, this year's Modified Madness presented by 94.1 FM is
sure to be another classic.

Originally slated for the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa,
officials have moved the event on Tuesday, July 31, to the Cresco Speedway
in Cresco, Iowa. NASCAR Nextel Cup Series stars Ken Schrader, Clint Bowyer
and Kenny Wallace will appear at this event, signing autographs for the fans
and strapping into their own Modifieds to take on The Best of the Best on
the Cresco clay. Previously a Central Region points race, this race will now
serve as the final points race in the Yeager Machine Northeast Region and
will award the first set of National drivers a spot in 'The Hunt' for the O'
Reilly USMTS National Championship.

The first week of August will see the other three regional champions crowned
prior to the start of the 'The Hunt' at the Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta,
Kan., on Thursday, August 9 — a new date which was recently added to this
year's slate, bringing the total number of races in 'The Hunt' to 16.

"We've added this race at Mayetta for a number of reasons, not the least of
which is because it's a great track where we've had exciting finishes in the
past," explained O'Reilly USMTS president Todd Staley. "The Hunt did not
have a traditional Western Region track scheduled, so this gives us at least
one event in each of the four regions. This added event also fits well with
the travel schedule for teams before and after this event."

The final event for the Central Region will take place on Saturday, August
4, at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. From there, the
rugged O'Reilly USMTS road warriors travel to the Humboldt Speedway in
Humboldt, Kan., for the final event in the Southern Region. The
recently-added date at Humboldt fills the date formerly reserved for the
Blackbird Bend Speedway in Onawa, Iowa, which closed its doors last week.
The Humboldt event brings the total number of Southern Region races to nine.

From there, drivers head north to the Beatrice Speedway in Beatrice, Neb.,
on Wednesday, August 8, for the final Western Region points race and the
last event before 'The Hunt' for the O'Reilly USMTS National Championship
begins on Thursday. Traveling teams expect a hard fought battle at Beatrice,
which boasts some of the stiffest local competition they'll see this season.

The 2007 season wraps up with 'The Hunt' for the O'Reilly USMTS National
Championship — 16 races in 32 days, culminating with the crowning of the
2007 O'Reilly USMTS national champion at the 9th Annual Featherlite Fall
Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., Sept. 6-8.

Don Droud, Jr. 'runs' home

http://www.yorknewstimes.com/stories/062807/sports_dondroudjr.shtml

Multi-talented pro driver a former York Duke

By Steve Moseley
Managing Editor

YORK -- It won't be sibling rivalry as some had hoped, but tomorrow night
will still be a homecoming for professional race car driver Don Droud, Jr.,
of Lincoln.

Droud will drive a roaring 360 sprint car at Junction Motor Speedway in
Friday night's Moses Motor Company ASCS Midwest Sprints show at Junction
Motor Speedway.

The card includes the Outlaw Vintage Lites and the Good Old Time Racing
Association, both of which feature throwback machines from racing's
yesteryear, but it won't include another Droud, brother Rodney.

Droud, Jr., said he moved to York the summer of his fifth grade year and
through his graduation was a "proud York Duke." Immediately after graduation
he moved to Lincoln where he continued to scratch the racing bug that bit
him as a York High School junior. What has become an illustrious and wildly
varied racing career began in those prep school days when, "I was racing
stock cars at Midwest Speedway in Lincoln. Then I got into the 410 sprint
cars and then started running some midgets and some non-wing sprint cars"
including those sanctioned by USAC. "Lately I've been doing all that plus
running a late model at I-80 (Speedway at Greenwood) on Sunday nights."

How much of his life is taken up with racing?

"Most of it," he answered with a chuckle, then explained he has a drywall
repair business in Lincoln to fill in the non-racing season of his year.

He said the sprinter he'll be driving tomorrow night belongs to Doug
Lovegrove out of Waverly, "a racer who got hurt last year. I'm just filling
in for him until he gets better."

Droud is running the late model for Ed Kosiski, one of the three legendary
Kosiski brothers who race out of Omaha. They are involved as owners of I-80
Speedway, too.

Droud will run, usually at or near the front, in pretty much anything with a
steering wheel above and a gas pedal below. His favorite class of race cars?

"I like the midgets way better than the sprint cars," he acknowledged, "but
the sprint cars pay better." Midgets, he explained, are "a smaller sprint
car without a wing." They are powered by a four-cylinder motor.

Open wheelers in general and sprint cars specifically, he said, are unique
"for their speed and acceleration. The downforce with the wings (on winged
sprints) really plants the cars so they don't have a lot of wheel spin."

Droud said a properly set up sprint car can run wide open around a fast
track like that at JMS without the driver ever havingto lift the accelerator
except in traffic.

"We're probably running 120 or 130 miles and hour down the backstretch" in
360 sprints like the one he'll be driving Friday at McCool. "When the car is
right and on a good track you can run around there wide open for 25 laps."

What kind of car can accomplish such a feat? Fans, friends and those who are
just curious can get an up-close look at the machine and meet Droud Friday
afternoon at Moses Ford south of York. Steve Moses said all are invited to
come give the car a thorough once over and say hello to Droud ... whether to
catch up on old times with a former York resident or to get an autograph.

While his return to York is all business, Droud said it will certainly be
"good to see people I haven't seen in a while. I would really like people to
come over to the pits after the races from the grandstands. I'd like to see
people who knew me or that I knew in high school. It's just really good to
race close to home."

He likes Junction Motor Speedway more than just a little bit, too.

"It's one of the nicest facilities in the country," he said. "I've raced
anywhere from California to Florida and North Dakota as far east as Ohio ...
it's one of the nicest I've been to. It's like a Field of Dreams type
thing," to discover a first-class dirt racing complex among corn fields,
next to a town with a wonderfully rural name like McCool Junction. "It's
awesome, just awesome. And it's kind of cool that it's right there where I
grew up ... in my own back yard.

As for tomorrow's two-hour stop at Moses Ford, Droud said, "Tell everybody
to come on out. We'll have a little York Duke Pride thing going on there."

Local fans were anticipating with relish a matchup between the Droud
brothers, but not this time. Rodney hoped to run tomorrow at McCool, but was
done in by another obligation.
"We usually race together," said Don, adding with a mischievous laugh, "Even
he would have to admit I'm better looking. Faster, too."

He was only poking a little good natured sibling fun at brother Rodney, but
the fact is Don Jr., will take the green flag tomorrow night standing fifth
among the 62 drivers listed in the Midwest Division ASCS 360 point
standings.

Eagle 6-23-07 Photos

Here's pics from the June 23 races at Eagle. I liked the one of Steve Shepard. It was shot at 1/30 of a second, yet the car stayed sharp. That was one of those shots you get once for every ten attempts.

Enjoy.

NCRA Late Model Speedweek Rolls into Junction Motor Speedway

PARK CITY, Kan. (June 21, 2007) – After just two events this season, the O'
Reilly NCRA Late Model Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol, will kick it up a
notch with a five-show Speedweek through the Fourth of July.

Their second stop will be Saturday June 30 at Junction Motor Speedway in
McCool Junction, a track that two-time defending series champion Kelly Boen
has done well at. The Henderson, Colo., driver has won the last five NCRA
events held at JMS over the past two years.

But Boen is still trying to shake off the affects of a scary crash in a
non-NCRA show April 28. He ran a strong second in the series' first event
this season, but another racing incident relegated him to a 21st-place
finish in the second show.

Delbert Smith, the 2001 series champion out of Wichita, Kan., won the
opener. He and Omaha's John Anderson are deadlocked for the top spot in the
standings.

Another former series champion, Kyle Berck, and Boen are close behind in
third and fourth, respectively. Berck, of Marquette, Neb., won the NCRA late
model crown in 2002. He is 30 points behind the leaders and holds a slim
five-point margin over Boen.

Nebraska drivers make up five of the remaining six positions in the top 10.
Corey Zeitner of Bellevue is fifth, Mike Wiarda of Aurora is sixth, Kearney'
s Bo Egge is seventh, Scott Daly of Elkhorn is eighth, and Omaha's Bill
Leighton is 10th. Only 95 points separate the top 12.

More than 30 drivers from the Cornhusker State have run with the series so
far this year. That list also includes 2006 NCRA Late Model Rookie of the
Year Steve Kempt from Shelton and Les Siebert of York.

ASCS Midwest Region Ladies Night at McCool Junction on Friday

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 26, 2007) – It will be a Ladies Night of
sorts when the American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region takes to the
semi-banked, 3/8-mile Junction Motor Speedway dirt oval in McCool Junction,
NE, this Friday night.

After all, it is believed to be the first time in the 16-year history of the
American Sprint Car Series that a lady racer has sat atop the point charts,
as Natalie Sather of Fargo, ND, holds the current ASCS Midwest Region point
lead.

And Sather won't be the only talented lady racer in the field, as
19-year-old Trish Dover of Springfield, NE, makes the jump from the 305-ci
ranks to make her ASCS debut on Friday night.

The Young Lion Award winner with the ASCS National Tour in 2004, Sather
moved atop the ASCS Midwest Region championship points race by advancing
from 19th to sixth in the series most recent event at Rising City on June
15.

The 22-year-old backed it up the next night with a strong fourth-place run
in ASCS National Tour action at Crawford County Speedway in Denison, IA.

Sather enters Friday's card with a 25-point lead over defending ASCS
Northern Plains Region champion Chuck Swenson of Watertown, SD. And
currently 58 points off the lead pace is reigning ASCS Midwest Region
champion Toby Chapman of nearby Lincoln, NE.

The Lincoln duo of Jason Danley and Don Droud, Jr., round out the current
top five entering Friday's card at Junction Motor Speedway.

In four previous ASCS Midwest Region events contested at Junction Motor
Speedway, four different drivers have reached victory lane. Danley reached
victory lane in the first ASCS Midwest Region card at McCool Junction in
2005, with Jake Peters and Brian Brown splitting honors last year. Garry Lee
Maier took the most recent win on May 25.

Past winners Danley and Peters along with defending series champion Chapman
and a host of other contenders will try to play the role of spoiler on
Ladies Night at Junction Motor Speedway, while Sather tries to maintain the
series point lead and Dover makes her debut while competing against younger

Kosiski Is King Of I-80 Speedway's Race Of Champions

By: Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 06/24/07) With the best drivers in the midwest converging
on I-80 Speedway, 16 year old Andrew Kosiski would prove to have the best
luck on his side on his way to the 2nd Annual I-80 Speedway Race Of
Champions victory. Kenny Edwards, Chris Spieker, Rick Negrete, and Josh Sink
would all visit victory lane in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly
program.

The 25 lap I-80 Speedway Race Of Champions feature event saw the #2x of
Andrew Kosiski jump to the early lead from his inside front row starting
position. Kosiski would lead until lap 9 when the #51 of Chad Simpson would
enter the spin cycle in turn four. When the green waved again it was Kosiski
out front, but the #1 of Jason Hobscheidt would be right in his tire tracks.
Hobscheidt would try a run at the lead, but Kosiski would pull away coming
off turn two. Kosiski would maintain the top spot until the final caution
period of the night when the #4k of Josh Krug spun on the front chute. After
the restart it was Hobscheidt that was on a mission. Hobscheidt's #1 would
find a better groove one lane lower than Kosiski, and with six laps to go
pull along side the #2x down the front straightaway. Kosiski would gather
the lead back in turns one and two, and go on to lead the final 5 laps on
his way to victory. Hobscheidt finished second, Kyle Berck third, Al
Humphrey fourth, and Chris Spieker came home fifth.

Missouri driver Kenny Edwards would jump out front from his front row
starting spot and lead the entire 25 lap Dodge Super Late Model "A" feature.
Edwards would be the dominant car early on in the feature, and show his
ability on the short run after surviving a green-white-checker finish. Jay
Stewart would finish 2nd after starting fifth. Mike Wallace would come third
after starting second. John Nicholson and Mike Collins rounded out the top
five.

The 20 lap City Weekly Grand National feature event saw the #92 of Jacob
Brown take the lead from the outside front row. The second year racer Brown
would have the race of his young career until lap 18 when the #56 of Chris
Spieker would use the high side to take the lead coming off turn four. The
2005 NASCAR Division II Champion Spieker would lead the remaining laps on
his way to victory. Brown finished second, Kyle Berck finished third after
starting 20th. Brad Soll and Shawn Harker finished off the top five.

Rick Negrete would use the inside lane of the track to come from the 16th
starting position to win the 18 lap Certified Transmission "A" feature.
Shawn Bulin finished second after being on Negrete's tail for the final few
laps. Marty Steinbach finished third after coming off his win Saturday night
in the Pro Stock division. Ray Dessel finished fourth and Doug Stevenson
came home fifth.

The 15 lap Hobby Stock feature event seen the #10 of Josh Sink drive from
the 9th starting position to win the race. Tom Myers finished second. Joe
Wollenhaupt finished third after starting on the pole. Chad Bassinger
finished fourth. Rick Munson came across the line fifth.

Humphrey Continues Crate Late Model Dominance At I-80 Speedway

By: Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 06/23/07) As the checkered flag flew to end the nights
racing, it was Al Humphrey who would take the victory in the Great Clips
Late Models making it two wins in a row and three on the season. Marty
Steinbach, Scott Carlson, Nick Clifford, Steve McConnell, Ryan Gladwin, and
Darrin Hoegran would also visit victory lane as Great Clips presented the
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The 25 lap Great Clips Crate Late Model "A" main event saw the #56 of Ron
Tilley jump to an early lead from his outside front row starting position.
With Tilley out front, it was obvious to see the fastest car in the field
was the #55 of Al Humphrey. Humphrey would make his way into the top three
spots within the first hand full of laps. Humphrey would challenge Tilley
for the lead with the #55 hugging the bottom and Tilley's #56 sticking to
the top. Humphrey would take the top spot around the halfway mark, with
Tilley close behind. Tilley would make a charge at Humphrey with five laps
to go, but Humphrey was able to hold him off on his way to victory. ARCA
driver Josh Krug would finish third in his first start of the year at I-80.
Jeff Tilley came home fourth in his first start as well, while Dave Doll
finished fifth.

Marty Steinbach would come from the 12th starting position to win the 18 lap
Ty's Outdoor Power Equipment Pro Stock feature event. Joe Feyen would
challenge Steinbach in the remaining few laps, but it was Steinbach who had
the preferred groove on his way to victory. Following Feyen was Doug
Stevenson, Shawn Bulin, and Chad Sanders.

Scott Carlson would take the victory in the 15 lap Midas B-Mod feature
event. Carlson would start his #1s in the 10th starting position and work
his way up to fifth in the first five laps. After a lap six restart, Carlson
would make the move of the race driving from fifth to second in one
straightaway. Carlson would then pass Lacey Tuttle for the lead on route to
victory. Mark Mcneal drove his #17h to second, followed by Roger Harpster,
Tuttle, and Larry Robinson Sr.

Nick Clifford would lead the first 10 laps of the 12 lap Midwest Linings 305
Sprint Car "A" feature. Clifford would be passed by the #9t of Mike
Masonbrink with two laps to go, and Masonbrink would take the win. As the
#9t crossed the scales it weighed light, giving the win to Clifford. Dan
Satriano, Steve Hurst and Michael Oliver rounded out the field.

The 12 lap Stereo West Auto Toys Pro Hornet feature event saw the most
exciting finish of the night. Steve McConnell would start outside front row
and take the lead early on in the event. Pete Fink Jr. would start third and
challenge McConnell on the inside. Fink and McConnell would battle side by
side until entering turn three on the final lap. Fink would drive deep into
the corner pushing high into McConnell's line. Steve's #33 M&M car would use
the cross over move to get under Fink's #13. Coming off turn four the two
leaders would split a lap car and all three would make contact. McConnell's
car would turn straight for the wall, but he would gather it up and take the
checkers first. Justin Soule would sneak by Fink at the line for second. Joe
Baker and Cory Askeland rounded out the field.

Ryan Gladwin would take the victory in the Novice Crate Late Model "A"
feature event. Lindsey Yost would put it all out on the line for the win on
the last corner, just to come home second. Amanda Leonardo finished third,
followed by Rob Kosiski and Scott Keffer.

The 8 lap Stereo West Auto Toys Novice Hornets would see Darrin Hoegren take
the lead on the final lap on his way to victory. Russell Johnson would come
home second, followed by Brett Smith, Alex Fink, and Sarah Preble.

Griffis, Alcorn, Novak and Shepard Take The Checkered at Eagle Raceway

Story by Greg Soukup

The second full day of summer brought warm temperatures and a breeze to Eagle Raceway, America’s Home Track Saturday afternoon. But, as the evening progressed and the sun set the temperatures created a beautiful evening for racing. The action on the track was just as torrid as the afternoon sun had been.

Two minor incidents occurred before the Feature events even got started. Tige Jensen rolled his #71 sprinter between turns 1 and 2 in the first Budweiser Championship 360 Sprint heat race. Shortly after that in the Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA Sport Compact heat race #1, Jessica Tadlock spun in turn two and rolled her racer gently into the infield. Neither driver was hurt badly, but Jensen’s night was over.

In the 360 Sprint B Feature Kevin Danley rolled his #7X, crushing the top wing. He attempted to continue despite having his wing flattened above his racer, only to pull into the infield 2 laps later.

The Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA Sport Compact A Feature saw Steve Shepard take the lead; with Brian Haller’s B32 and the 26 of Derrick Dreamer in 2nd and 3rd. Dreamer passed Haller with 13 laps remaining and then got around Shepard for the lead 3 laps later. On the same circuit, Maynard Kinnersley also got around Haller in his #18 for the third position. Another 3 laps were in the books when Shepard got back around Dreamer when Dreamer bobbled on the backstretch. With only 2 laps to go, Kinnersley moved into 2nd followed by the #44 of Jack Prall III, as Dreamer fell back to 5th. At the checkers it was Shepard, Kinnersley and Prall III.

Shepard, who has been racing for 16 years, began in the old Friday Night Flyer division. He actually had started out this year in a modified but, according to him “I just couldn’t afford to race it anymore, so I moved into a Sport Compact.” “I want to say thank you to my sponsors. They are EMS Inc., C & D Towing, Big Dan’s Auto Body, Hungry Eye Tattoo and Asa Triplette Hauling & Landscaping. I also want to thank the fans for supporting racing here at Eagle,” he added. He concluded his interview by saying “It was really a good fast track tonight. It great to win the feature, and I hope we can do it again”.

Next up was the Valentino’s Pizza IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Ron Novak’s #14 broke out in front from his outside row 1 starting position. He was followed by the #9 of Rex Schreiner, the #22 of Nick Beckman and Don Hall Jr. in the #92. With 12 laps left, Hall Jr. and Beckman made contact, allowing the #86 of defending track champion Justin Wulf to take over the 3rd position with Hall Jr. being moved back 4 positions. 8 laps later the #12 of Dan Noonan rolled over in turn four, coming to rest on it’s top inside the berm. Noonan was unhurt. On the restart, the top 4 positions were Novak, Schreiner, Wulf and the M70 of Rick Munson. On the very last lap Wulf took over 2nd place with Munson following him into 3rd. The final results showed Novak taking home the top spot.

“I started outside the front row, and managed to hold them all off for a change” Novak said. “We needed some luck after the way things have gone the last few weeks. You can’t afford to get a flat tire, or break a rocker arm in the engine or anything else out here. The competition here at Eagle is just too fast to let that happen,” he stated. “I’m really happy to take home the winner’s purse tonight. That will let us run a couple of more weeks” he added. Novak is one of many drivers running at America’s Home Track who does it all out of his own pocket. He does all of the work on the car by himself, hauls it to the track, races it and as he put it “Fixes everything the driver breaks too”. “I want to thank my family for letting me race out here; and I want to also say that I became a grandpa again just 2 weeks ago. There’s nothing like grandchildren to make you happy” he finished.

The action was fast and furious in the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified main event also. As the pack went into turn #1, cars began sliding around bunching up the field behind them. When the melee was untangled the 5ST of Dan Wayman, Rik Gropp’s #45, the 11X of Steve Devitt and Chad Anderson’s 8c were stopped just before turn #1. After a complete restart Scott Anderson’s #19 led the field; followed by Norm Ziegenbein’s 1Z, Ron Dake in the 33Z and the 75J of Jesse Robinson. On the 3rd lap Ed Raines spun in turns 3 & 4, bringing out the yellow flag. Robinson had taken over 3rd position, but was forced back to 4th place. On the restart Ziegenbein moved around Anderson to take the lead and George Haney pulled around Robinson to garner 4th. Doug Deterding was the “man on the move” however; moving up to 3rd position after having come from the B Feature and starting in the next to last row. That same lap Deterding also got around Dake to advance another spot to 2nd. Also coming forward in a hurry was returning track champion Chris Alcorn. With just 8 laps down he had moved up to 4th position. He wasted no time taking over 3rd on the very next circuit. With 10 laps to go Chad Anderson spun in turns 3 & 4, bunching up the field. The running order at that time was Ziegenbein, Deterding, Alcorn and Scott Anderson. On the restart Alcorn jumped past both Deterding and Ziegenbein to grab the lead, with Deterding following him into 2nd place 2 laps later. After the races Ziegenbein stated that he had lost a cylinder, dropping him back into the pack. Alcorn was timed at anywhere from ½ to a full second faster than the rest of the field during the race. After getting the lead, he sailed to victory.

Alcorn, having started from the inside of the 6th row said “All of the top 4 had great cars; I just got through traffic better than they did once we hit the lapped cars. Doug was really coming tonight, going all-out to move up that quickly is something I try to avoid. Whenever I try that, I end up in a wreck. I prefer to just hang out for a while, figure out where the line is and basically just ‘go where they ain’t”. “I kind of wish the track had widened out a little more than it did; I think there would have been even more side-by-side racing. But, we all have to run the same track; it’s the same for everyone” he added. Chris’ sponsors include Doctor John’s, Heavy Company, Midwest Unlimited, Spanel Engines, The Alley Bar, ATH Motorsports, Onyx Digital Group, Independent Equipment and L&L Motorsports.

The finale for the evening was again the Budweiser Championship 360 sprints. Jay Jordan piloted his #19J into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Behind him were the 8B of Bobby Becker and the 24B of Frank Galusha. Galusha’s engine was smoking from the beginning of the race and finally expired with just 3 laps down. That moved Ken Klabunde’s #28 into 3rd. Just 2 laps later Becker got around Jordan to take over 1st, with Jeff Griffis following him into 2nd place from 4th. Another 4 laps were completed when Griffis passed Becker for the point. They held those positions and began to pull away from the rest of the field until with 6 laps to go, Gage Dorr’s #17 struck the guardrail hard between turns 1 & 2. Without stopping he continued on, only to make contact with the guardrail in turn 3 causing his sprinter to roll over. The resulting red flag bunched the field again with 7 laps left after going back to the last completed circuit. On the restart Griffis again motored to a significant lead, followed by Becker who had suffered a collapsed nose-wing somewhere during the contest. The finish of the race saw Griffis in 1st, Becker in 2nd, Jordan in 3rd and Klabunde in 4th.

Jeff Griffis has been racing since 1992, having taken 3 years off “in the middle somewhere” before returning full-time to the seat of the #3. “It’s been a rough couple of years out here, but now we’ve got a good program and a great car under us. Maybe we can keep improving from there,” Griffis stated. “First of all, I want to thank all of the fans who’ve supported us all of these years. Next, I need to thank my sponsors for giving me this great car” he added. Jeff’s sponsors are Mad Hatter Mufflers, Pearce Financial, Jay B. Garage & Towing, Fred’s Auto Body, C Met Excavating, MJ’s Pizza and Brews, GMS Wings, Barley’s and ‘The 500 Club’. “I can’t thank all of them enough” he finished.

Remember that next Saturday is Eagle’s Independence Day Celebration as the Army National Guard presents “Freedom Fest” Military Appreciation Night. All military, police, fire and rescue personnel in uniform will receive free admission with an appropriate photo ID. Racing will feature the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprints, Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, Valentino’s Pizza IMCA Hobby Stocks and the Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA Sport Compacts. A gigantic fireworks spectacular immediately following racing will top off the evening.

Blackbird Bend Speedway to close

Golden Racing Promotions, Inc is extremely upset to announce the Tribal
Council of Omaha has terminated our lease with Blackbird Bend Speedway.

As of Wed., June 20, 2007 we will no longer be affiliated with Blackbird
Bend Speedway or CasinOmaha. There are no future plans for the track at
this time that we are aware of. Reasoning for the termination of the
lease is not clear to us. We abided by all rules and regulations of the
lease.

Each week the tribal council would come up with something for us to
abide by, which we did. They are a hard council to please.

We have tried at great extent to satisfy these situations that they
brought forward and in attempting to contact the right people, they were
advised not to talk to us. It makes it hard to correct a situation when
you can't talk to the person you need to talk to.

We have been promoting area race tracks for 11 years. This was not a job
it was a hobby enjoyed by our entire family and staff. Most of our staff
has been with us from the beginning when we opened Interstate Speedway
in 1996. To all of you we say Thank You for being dedicated valued
friends. It is because of you that this is so hard to deal with.

Many of the drivers have raced with us for just as many years. Through
the years we have met and become friends with a variety of
personalities. To all of the drivers, the crews, family members and fans
we thank you for making our journey with us. We have many memories to
take with us. To first time winners, repeat winners, young kids driving
their cars for the first time, laughs with everyone and even being
yelled at for a call that was made. Bottom line, we enjoyed all of it.

Greg & Tina Golden, we are hanging up our promoting gloves and going
fishing. Maybe this was in the cards for us as today is our 11th
anniversary. We are trading one journey for another...RELAXING!!
Vacations that don't have to be arranged between Monday and Thursday.
Going camping on the weekends.

Thank You to everyone we have met throughout this journey.

Local drivers know what Edwards went through in quest for glory

BY CURT McKEEVER / Lincoln Journal Star
Friday, Jun 22, 2007 - 12:31:34 am CDT
Adam Gullion knows the feelings that rushed through Carl Edwards last
Sunday after the NASCAR Nextel Cup superstar ended a 52-race drought by
winning the Citizens Bank 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Although they race on a much smaller scale, for Gullion and most of the
sprint car drivers who compete at Eagle Raceway, the challenge to win a
feature race is just as difficult as what Edwards faces each weekend.

"I've been in a race car since I was 12 and Eagle's probably one of the
toughest tracks I've ever even watched a race on," said Gullion, a
21-year-old from Beatrice. "The first time I won an 'A' feature there, that'
s probably the first time I've won and cried about it, because it's that big
a deal.

Eagle 6-17: Meinholdt, Alcorn, Hiatt and Frank Rock the 1/3 Mile High Bank Bull Ring

From Eagle Raceway

Another great crowd filed through the gates at Eagle Raceway, America's
home track tonight for "Dads Rock Night" sponsored by Legend's Bar and
Grill. Over 110 cars battled on a night almost perfect for racing. A
slight southerly breeze cooled the fans before the sun set, bringing a
typical spring evening.

The "Quad Squad" was on hand to entertain the fans with their feats of
jumping from ramp to ramp and acrobatics. Also, the "Dirt Track Hotties"
made their first appearance at Eagle this year, signing autographs,
taking pictures with the dads in attendance and getting some folks
involved in a water balloon relay on the front stretch during intermission.

Radio station KRKR topped off the night's special events when, after the
races finished, they gave away a $29,000 combination of a brand new
Seadoo and a Yamaha Roadstar motorcycle.

Even with all the extras for the dads, the racing took center stage as
usual, with a total of 21 heats, B Features and A Features.

Only 2 incidents marred the evening. The first occurred in the Budweiser
Championship 360 Sprint B Feature. Don Droud Jr. came into contact with
the 21 of Ryan Kitchen entering turn 1. Kitchen then flipped, coming to
a rest on the tires between turns 1 and 2. Kitchen was towed to the
pits, and Droud Jr. also retired. Droud Jr. was filling in for Doug
Lovegrove in the #44. Doug hasn't quite recovered from injuries suffered
at I-80 Speedway, and Droud graciously accepted an offer to pilot the
sprinter until Lovegrove is well enough to take back his seat.

The other significant mishap happened as the Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA
Sport Compacts came around for the green flag. Back in the pack, Maynard
Kinnersley made contact with another car. This resulted in his #18
nearly rolling over the wall in turn three. After several moments,
Kinnersley crawled from his racer, shaken but relatively unharmed.

When the race began again, the 00 of Barry Kinnersley took the lead,
with the #24 of Mike Rice in second, the 33 of Jeremy Noonan in third
and Justin Busboom's #62 in fourth. Kinnersley and Rice battled
fiercely, sometimes side-by-side, back and forth for quite some time.
With only 7 laps down, the 18R of Ron Frank had moved into third and
just 2 laps later, he claimed the lead; followed by Kinnersley and Rice.
The front four went unchanged until with 3 laps left, Dan Rhiley moved
all the way up to the third spot. On the very last circuit, Rhiley moved
into second position as Kinnersley spun past the flag stand. At the
checkered flag, it was Frank, Rhiley, Rice and Busboom.

Tonight was Ron Frank's third race ever in a car. Also, he runs the
entire operation on his own and out of his own pocket. In addition, he
is the driver, crew chief, mud scraper and hauls the car to the track
each racing night. When asked to tell about his sponsors, Frank said,
"Me, but I sure would welcome anyone who would like to help out." "The
track was really awesome tonight," he added. "I hope we can manage to
put this Honda into the winner's circle again really soon. I want to
thank my wife Cinda, for allowing me to race here at Eagle. It's been a
great time so far" he finished.

Next on the agenda was the Valentino's Pizza IMCA Hobby Stocks. At the
outset, the #10 of Brad Schreiner was in front with Shane Hiatt's 21H
and the #121 of Robert Tippery close behind. By lap #4 Justin Wulf had
brought his #86 up to third spot, having passed Tippery. It took only 3
more laps for Hiatt to take over the point. The drivers raced furiously
around the track, trying to find an opening to better their position;
but the running order up front remained unchanged until with just 4 laps
left, Wulf got around Schreiner for 2nd. In the end, Hiatt took home the
victory, followed by Wulf and Schreiner.
Shane Hiatt is in only his second year of racing, having spent the
majority of last year at US-30 Speedway and Butler County Motorplex;
however, he also ran at Eagle whenever his schedule allowed. This year
Shane has missed only 1 night on the high-banks of Eagle, and that was
the very first night of racing on the year.

"It was a great win tonight. After having gotten black-flagged near the
beginning of last week's A, I'm glad that we could come back tonight and
prove ourselves. We won last night at Butler County, then turned around
and won both our heat and the A Feature here" Hiatt stated. Shane's
sponsors include Benes Service, Hildy Construction, Seward Electronics,
Scrib's House Moving, Spark Electric, Kneaded Pampering, Klub Lisa,
Sonora Carriage Company, DC Auto Center, Slick Graphix, Just One More
Bar & Grill, Hlavac Farms and Bill's Machine. "I want to thank everyone
who helps me every week. Shawn, Nathan, Kevin, TJ, H-Rod, Ryan, Harms,
Jamie, Paula, Jerry and Jono. And a special thanks to my mother and
father" he added.

The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified A Feature began with the #1Z of
Norm Ziegenbein Jr. in front, followed by the 52 of Sean Manning in
second and the 5ST of Dan Wayman in third place. Doug Deterding was on
the move though, coming quickly up to second. Also advancing rapidly was
reigning track champion Chris Alcorn, who had come all the way from his
6th row inside starting position to 3rd. With 12 laps remaining,
Deterding moved into first position with Alcorn following him into
second place. Deterding managed to hold Alcorn off until after 3
straight restarts Chris put his #3 under Doug and took over first.
Despite numerous attempts by Deterding to overtake Alcorn using the high
line, Alcorn held on for the win. Deterding was a close second with the
#95 of Dylan Smith in third.

"I honestly didn't think we had the car to win tonight. I moved up and
down the track until I found a line that the car wanted to run good in.
I sure didn't think we could ever get past Doug. I just missed that hole
one time, got inside of him and passed. I sure figured Doug would get
back around me on the outside, but he couldn't quite do it," Alcorn stated.

The final A Main of the night featured the Budweiser Championship 360
Sprints. Young Trevor Grossenbacher took advantage of his pole position
to grab the early lead, with the #2X of past champion Rod Droud and the
8B of Bobby Becker in pursuit. On the third lap of the race, defending
sprint champion Mike Boston bounced through turns 1 & 2, finally coming
to a rest with a broken front axle. 2 laps later, Becker moved up to
second when the 2X was forced to the pits with a flat right front tire;
This put Ken Klabunde's #28 into the third spot. 9 laps later Becker got
around Grossenbacher for the lead. On the next lap Brad Krutz moved into
third in his #91. Another 5 laps were in the books when Krutz bumped
Grossenbacher from behind, spinning him in turn 2. Krutz was then sent
to the rear of the field, behind Grossenbacher. It was Becker, Klabunde
and Tadd Holliman's #23R in that order. On the restart, Chad Meinholtz
got around Holliman to take over the third spot between turns 1 & 2.
Meinholtz moved into 2nd position briefly on the following lap, before a
yellow light forced another restart. When the green flag flew again,
Meinholtz again moved up into second place behind Becker. They held
those places until with just 3 laps left Mark Pace hit the wall between
turns 1 and 2, bringing another stoppage. Ken Klabunde also went to the
pits with a flat right front tire. The running order then was Becker,
Meinholtz, Adam Gullion in the 96KX car and Holliman's 23R. Becker
managed to hold Meinholtz off during numerous restarts, but on the last
restart Meinholtz set Becker up perfectly and moved into the lead. He
held Becker off for the win.

"We haven't been here for 2 years, but this is the Eagle Raceway that I
remember. There were 2 good grooves; a really fast groove around the
bottom, and IF you have the guts, it was even faster on the top"
Meinholtz stated. "This is only the second race for me this year. We ran
fourth last week at US36, and decided to come up here this week. I
really had planned on taking the whole year off, but my crew chief Dave
kept pushing me to get out again; and I admit that the itch was getting
pretty strong. This was a really great win tonight, especially starting
on the outside of the 6th row" he added. "I want to thank my sponsors;
Reser's Fine Foods, Mike Mead Family Dentistry and Carstar North of
Topeka. And I need to give a special thanks to Eckley Racing Engines for
helping us figure out the fuel system on this 11 year-old ASCS motor" he
finished. Chad promised that he would return to Eagle Raceway again this
year, but wasn't sure of when it would be.

Don't forget that next week at Eagle Raceway is "Fan with a Can" night,
where 2 cans of food donated will be rewarded with $2 off of adult
admissions. All proceeds will be given to the Lincoln and Omaha area
Food Banks.

Boston Rises to ASCS Midwest Region Victory Lane

Lonnie Wheatley, RISING CITY, Neb. (June 15, 2007) – Mike Boston
collected his first career American Sprint Car Series feature win by
emerging victorious in Friday night's wild 25-lap ASCS Midwest Region
feature at the Butler County Motorplex.

Boston battled past Chuck Swenson to become the race's third different
leader just past the midway point then held off Jake Peters much of the
way to earn the victory aboard the Vision Sports No. 51 Maxim entry.

With Boston gridding the feature field outside the second row, it was
20-year-old Chad Humston and Brian Brown leading the way to the green
flag. Humston beat Brown into the first pair of corners but the red flag
flew a half lap later when Brown went for a wild ride in turn three,
collecting, Don Droud, Jr., Kory Rawstern and Mark Schmidt in the
process. There were no injuries, but all four drivers were done for the
night.

Swenson moved to Humston's outside shoulder on the restart and the pair
battled back and forth on the opening round before Humston charged off
turn tour to lead the opening circuit. Humston and Swenson continued to
battle for the point until the red flag flew after three laps for Lee
Grosz' turn three tumble. Grosz was uninjured.

After Gregg Bakker's flat tire brought out a caution two laps later,
Swenson finally edged ahead of Humston to take command on the sixth lap,
with Boston and Peters making their way past Humston as well in short order.

Boston soon went to work on Swenson for the lead, ultimately making what
proved to be the race-winning move on the 12th lap. In a bid to
recapture the lead, Swenson bicycled and then flipped in the third turn
two laps later, collecting defending series champion Toby Chapman in the
process. Swenson and Chapman, who had charged to fifth after starting
15th, were both done.

Back under way, Peters kept the pressure on Boston, making several
challenges along the way. But Boston's slim slim two car-length lead
suddenly expanded when Peters' powerplant expired on the 24th lap,
forcing the Burch No. 1m machine to the infield.

Boston raced to the checkered flag with a ten car-length advantage over
Dusty Zomer, who climbed from eighth to snare runner-up honors in Gary
Swanson's No. 24a. Humston settled for the show position, with Chad
Meyer and Gene Ackland rounding out the top five.

Natalie Sather charged from 19th to finish sixth, with Ryan Anderson,
Tige Jensen, 20th-starter Mark Pace and Seth Brahmer completing the top ten.

Boston, Humston and Ackland topped heat race action, with Grosz making a
last-corner pass of Schmidt to win the "B" Main.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

(Cue up Metallica's version of Morricone's Ecstasy of Gold here)

I'm not in the mood for a lengthy, wordy piece. So here's my overly simple editorial for the week.

Regarding the Eagle Nationals:

WDRL at Eagle

The good:

-The fantastic A feature. Just when you thought one guy had it covered, they were getting passed. A coming-for-the-checkered-turn-four pass almost always makes up for anything.

The bad:

-The multi-car qualifying format. While I like the idea, I have to ask if it was really any faster than one at a time. There seemed to be some downtime.

The ugly:

-The prima-donna attitude of the WDRL and drivers. If the track is too slimy or wet, then get your asses out there and help pack it. This isn't about you, it's about the fans. There are 1500-lb sprint cars out there making do, get out and help.

WoO at Eagle

The good:

-Seeing a unified WoO out with a respectable car count. An entertaining first half of the A feature.

-A great crowd on hand when it was needed badly, and one that seemed to be pretty patient with the track being reworked.

-A very festive atmosphere again with parties in the parking lot and afterward.

The bad:

-Aforementioned track rework. A polar opposite of the night before; wet and rough on Friday, hard and dry Saturday. However, the reworked track was pretty darn good.

The ugly:

-In the end, another rubber-down finish. Blame the track or the cars? I don't know, but I've seen the same thing too many times.

Back Row Challenge:

The good:

-WoO star Justin Henderson taking the $1000 challenge to start from the back because he "had to." Class act.

The bad:

-Seeing some of the locals bolt off for "greener" pastures, and rumors of a boycott (which I've been told emphatically are just that-rumors).

The ugly:

-A shell of the original concept - being relegated to support to the WDRL show. I can live with that since the other two episodes of the BRC didn't bring in the fans, but bill it as such next time. Maybe it's better to let it die.

Support shows (Mods, Hobbies, Sport Compacts)

The good:

-Despite a 12-lap Modified A feature, it was nice to see someone who's been on hiatus for 7 years back in the winner's circle.

-Good sport compact car count, despite the higher admission price

-A hobby stock A feature with a good deal of drama

The bad:

-The first Modified heat which went all of two laps before being called off.

The ugly:

Yet another Modified A feature front stretch pileup with another destroyed car. There's been too many modified red flags this year.

Kenny Edwards Becomes First Time Winner At I-80 Speedway

By: Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 06/10/07) As a beautiful Nebraska night came to an end, it
was Kenny Edwards who made a name for himself as he became a first time
winner in the Dodge Super Late Models at I-80 Speedway. Reese Coffee, Thad
Thompson, Jesse Sobbing, and Rob Kosiski all made it to victory lane as
All-State Insurance presented the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The 25 lap Dodge Super Late Model "A" feature event saw the #11 of Don Droud
Jr. jump to an early lead. Droud would maintain the lead through the early
stages of the race, but the car on the move was the #25 of Kenny Edwards.
Edwards would use the middle groove of the track to pass Droud for the lead.
The only caution flag of the race came on lap 19 when Droud's machine broke
coming out of turn four collecting Joe Kosiski in the process. When racing
got back underway it was all Edwards as he maintained the point on his way
to victory. Todd Bell would finish second followed by a hard charging Jerry
Warner who started in the 20th position. John Nicholson and Jay Stewart
rounded out the top five.

This would be the second dirt late model feature win for the Edwards family
this week. Wednesday Kenny's brother Carl won the Prelude To The Dream at
Eldora.

J.C Wyman would take control of the 18 lap Modified "A" main event a few
laps into the race. Wyman would ride the rim of the track and build a huge
lead as the half way point was reached. After the race was slowed by a
caution with six laps to go, Wyman would make contact with the back
straightaway wall on the restart. The damage suffered to Wymans #4 was to
great as he pulled pit side, thus leaving the battle for the lead to the #95
of Buzz Wilson, the #3L of Bub Lerette, and the #16 of Reese Coffee. With
the veteran Coffee on the prowl, the race was set for a shootout. As the
green waved it was Coffee taking the advantage as he went on to win the
event. Lerette, Wilson, Robert Brinkman, and Mark Leiting rounded out the
top five.

Thad Thomson would make the winning pass with two laps remaining to win the
18 lap Certified Transmission Pro Am "A" feature event. Shawn Bulin would
hold the race lead early as he held off the #24 of Don Mohr. With only a few
laps remaining, Bulin would have a 4 car length lead, but he would give it
all back as he slipped high in turn two. Mohr would challenge Bulin for the
lead, but it was Thomson who ran the high groove around the track as he
passed the leader. Thomson would keep his car glued to the top as he made
his way around the 4/10th of a mile speedway. As the checkered came out it
was Thomson who took the victory. Bulin settled for second, Mohr was third,
the #66 of Jeff Joldersma finished fourth, and "Sugar Shane" Stutzman came
home fifth after making his return to the dirt at I-80 Speedway.

The 15 lap Hobby Stock main event started with the #40 of Mike Mass having
contact with the front straight away wall. After the race was restarted it
was Jesse Sobbing who took the lead in the early stages. Sobbing would
receive pressure from the #4x of Chad Bassinger, but Bassinger would loose
all hope for winning after making contact with the wall. The car on the move
was the #6 of Jimmy Nichols, Nichols would start 9th and work his way
through the field. But when the race was all said and done it was "Crazy
Jesse" Sobbing taking the win and the $50 Tom & Tiffs Family Restaurant
bonus. Nichols finished second, with Josh True coming home third. Josh Sink
and Tom Myers rounded off the top five. Hats off goes to the #7x of young
Jared Myers. Jared would make his first start at I-80 Speedway and finish
8th.

Rob Kosiski would win the shortened Novice Carte late Model feature. Kortney
Kosiski finished second, Micah Brown third, 305 Sprint Car driver Trish
Dover finished fourth, and Lindsey Yost cam home fifth.

Hobscheidt Takes Crate Late Model Victory At I-80 Speedway

By: Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 06/09/07) After a warm day turned into a nice night, Jason
Hobscheidt, Chad Sanders, Jared Hoefelman, Trish Dover, Dave Christensen,
Ryan Gladwin, and Joe Mcconnell all visited victory lane as Craftsman Tools
presented the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at I-80 Speedway.

The 20 lap Great Clips Crate Late Model "A" feature event saw Andrew Kosiski
jump to an early lead from his outside front row position. Kosiski would
lead until the caution flew on lap five, and then on the restart the #3 of
Mike Collins and the #1 of Jason Hobscheidt would drive by Kosiski's #2x.
Collins would survive the challenges made by Hobscheidt after a few late
race cautions and go on to win the feature event. But as the #3 went across
the scales it was found to be to light, and Collins was DQed. Hobscheidt
took the win, Kosiski was second, Craig Preble would finish third after
starting 13th, Dave Livingston and Al Humphrey rounded out the top five.

Chad Sanders would win the 18 lap Ty's Outdoor Power Equipment Pro Stock "A"
main. The race would start with a hand full of yellows including a hard
crash involving the #92 of Tony Barnes. Barnes would be transported to a
local hospital for precautionary reasons. Once the race got back under way
it was Chad Sanders in front. Sanders would be able to hold the lead through
another slew of yellow, and with a few laps to go track officials checkered
flagged the race. Sanders was declared the winner, Rick Negrete, Shawn
Bulin, Tim Podraza, and Marty Steinbach finished in the top five.

The 15 lap Midas B-Mod main event seen a record number amount of cars on
hand. The #15H of Jared Hoefelman would take the early lead and hold on for

the "One Man Band" Nick Hermsen, and Larry Robinson Sr finish third through
fifth.

Trish Dover would pass Nick Clifford with two laps remaining to win the 12
lap Midwest Linings 305 Sprint Car "A" feature. Clifford would jump to an
early lead, with Dover taking her time through traffic in the early stages
of the race. Dover would get to second, and chase down Clifford in the last
hand full of laps. Matt Stelzer and Dan Satriano were the only other cars to
finish the race.

Dave Christensen would start on the front row and win the 12 lap Stereo West
Auto Toys Pro Hornet "A" feature. Jeff Joldersma would finish second after
starting in the the sixth row. The #28 of Corey Askeland finished third.

middle stages of the race. Joe Baker finished fifth.

Ryan Gladwin would pass Rob Kosiski with a few laps remaining to win the
Novice Crate "A" main. Lindsey Yost and Mollee Collins finished third and
fourth.

The 8 lap Stereo West Auto Toys Novice Hornets feature saw the #b52 of Dan
Rasmussen take the lead early in the event. Rasmussen looked as if he had
the race in hand, but a late race caution gave the rest of the field a
chance. On the restart the #2 of Joe Mcconnell would take the lead, and go
on to take the win. Brett Smith, Russell Johnson, Rasmusen, and Kortney
Zimmerman rounded out the top five.

Saldana Soars at Eagle : Wins Eagle Nationals to Claim Seventh Win of 2007

By Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR Director

Twice this season, Joey Saldana and his Kasey Kahne Racing team have
welcomed new crew members to their team, and twice they have won in the
debut race for the new crew members.

On Saturday at Eagle Raceway in the Eagle Nationals, they welcomed
Kolten Gouse and Jared Ridge to the team. Both recently graduated high
school and will take to the road full-time with the team for the
remainder of the World of Outlaws season. Saldana welcomed the pair in
style on Saturday night, as they got to celebrate in Victory Lane, as he
won his seventh A-Feature event of the season.

Saldana powered his way to the lead on the eighth lap of the Eagle
Nationals, charging under Brooke Tatnell on the back straightaway, and
then holding off a furious charge from Jac Haudenschild over the last 10
laps of the race.

"It was a great night tonight," said Saldana, driver of the Open Joist
Mopar-powered JEI. "The team worked great collectively to win this race.
We know that we have a team that is capable of winning each time we get
to the track. We'll just keep building on this. We set up a strong
foundation for this team last season and we continue to build and grow.
This win is huge for Kasey Kahne Racing."

The race began with polesitter Brooke Tatnell jumping to the early lead
over Steve Kinser and Haudenschild. It was slowed on the fourth lap when
an accident involving several cars that were running in the Top-10 got
together. Daryn Pittman got the worst of it getting upside, ending his
night. Also, Steve Kinser's night was over after the incident. The rest
of the cars involved including current series point leader Donny Schatz
were able to continue after going to the work area,

Saldana lined up sixth for the 40-lap event and gained a couple of spots
on the opening lap. He moved into the third spot on the fourth lap when
the accident occurred. On the ensuing restart, the native of Brownsburg,
Indiana dove under Haudenschild coming off the fourth turn to claim the
runner-up spot. He would then shadow Tatnell for three laps before
making the pass for the lead and ultimately the win.

A number of caution flags slowed the race, and forced the cars to run a
number of laps under the yellow flag. This had many of the teams worried
about fuel and also if their tires would hold up. The only thing that
slightly worried Saldana was a lapped car in front of him that lost
power late in the race, bringing out a caution right in front of him
exiting the fourth turn.

"I think the crew was worried about fuels and tires, but I wasn't,"
explained the winner. "I knew we had a lot of fuel to begin the race and
we had a little bit harder of a tire on. We were fast down low and we
could pass down there. We tried a few new things with shocks tonight and
they worked."

Haudenschild thrilled the crowd with his trademark aggressive driving
style, as he tapped the wall several times as the laps wound down. He
had a very entertaining battle with 2001 World of Outlaws Champion Danny
Lasoski in the middle portion of the race. Haudenschild rode inches off
the wall, while Lasoski was stuck to the bottom of the track. The pair
traded the runner-up position a number of times. Late in the race,
Haudenschild also battled with Tatnell for the second spot, as he
continued to hug the wall.

"The car was pretty good tonight, and the crew did a good job," said
Haudenschild, driver of the Wright One Construction Maxim. "We got close
to Joey (Saldana) at the end and just came up a little bit short. We
gave it everything we had."

The native of Wooster, Ohio made up ground in traffic as he chased
Saldana, but each time he would close in on the leader, the yellow flag
flew, sending all the lapped machines to the rear of the field. On the
restarts in open track Saldana quickly jumped to a sizeable lead,
leaving Haudenschild looking for traffic to close the gap.

"We didn't need the yellows at the end," said the runner-up. "We were
very good in lapped traffic and that is where we made up ground running
up top. If we would have gotten in traffic with 10 or 15 laps to go, we
would have had a few more chances."

Before the World of Outlaws heat races took to the high-banked 1/3-mile,
the track crew along with officials from SLS Promotions reworked the
track, which drew rave reviews from the drivers at the end of the night.

"The track was very racy tonight," said Haudenschild, while signing
autographs for a throng of fans in the pit area. "It helped when they
worked on the track. We ran both the top and bottom."

Tatnell matched his season-best finish as he was third in the Eagle
Nationals, to earn his third straight Top-three finish at the track.
After winning his first Crane Cams Dash of the season, he earned his
first pole position and led his first laps of the 2007 campaign in
A-Feature competition.

"It's a happy/sad day," said Tatnell, driver of the Volcano Joe's Coffee
Schnee. "It's the best we have consistently been all year long, but it's
disappointing to lead and not win."

After enduring some bad luck the last couple of weeks, the strong run
lifted the team's spirit as they continue to close in on their first win
of the season. Early in the race, he pulled away before a caution
negated the lead he built up, and putting Saldana and Haudenschild right
on his tail tank.

"We found a few things during the week and those helped us," said the
native of San Souci, NSW, Australia. "I was searching the track for the
rubber. It was good to lead laps and run up front."

The always optimistic driver has always enjoyed racing at Eagle, and
admits that even when things aren't going great, he can usually turn
things around at Eagle.

"It's good bullring racing here, like what I grew up doing," explained
the multi-time champion in Australia. "You have to get your elbows up
and manhandle the car. We've always had good results here, no matter
what car I have been in. It's a good confidence boost for the team."

Danny Lasoski finished fourth in the Roth Motorsports Eagle to vault
into the third spot in the championship point standings. The native of
Dover, Missouri lined up 12th for the 40-lap event, and steadily worked
his way to the front. He gained two spots on the opening lap, and was a
benefactor of the lap-4 red flag, moving from 10th to fifth. From there,
he worked on Jason Sides for the fourth spot, and then got around
Haudenschild for second, before battling Tatnell late in the race for
the third spot.

Jason Meyers lined up 16th in the Eagle Nationals, and also had a very
consistent night aboard the Primerica Financial Maxim. He gained a
couple spots on the opening lap and also was a benefactor of the lap-4
incident, gaining five positions. He worked his way into fifth on the
28th-lap. It was his 13th Top-Five finish of the season and it moved up
into the fifth spot in points.

Chad Kemenah earned his sixth Top-10 finish of the season, as he was
sixth in the Hampshire Racing Engines Maxim. Kerry Madsen earned the KSE
Race Products Hard Charger Award after starting 23rd and finishing
seventh in the Selma Shell Maxim. Paul McMahan was eighth in the Bass
Pro Shops Eagle. Tim Shaffer was ninth in the Casey's General Stores Maxim.

Current World of Outlaws championship point leader Donny Schatz finished
10th in the Snap-on Tools J&J after getting caught up in the lap 4
accident and having to go to the work area and restart at the read of
the field. It was his 27th Top-10 finish in 30 events.

The night began with Saldana turning the quickest lap in time trials for
the sixth time this season. He also added to the number of laps that he
has led on the season, crossing the 200-lap marker which is best in the
series. In addition to this, he took over the lead in money earned after
picking up $10,000 for his seventh A-Feature triumph of the season.

The World of Outlaws return to action on Thursday, June 14 at the
recently reconfigured Tri-City Speedway in Illinois, for an event that
postponed by weather in April.

Saldana, Richards and Noonan Win at Eagle Nationals

From Greg Soukup / Eagle Raceway

Anyone saying that 410 sprint car racing is dying, or even on the
decline should have been at Eagle Raceway, America's Home Track for the
second and final night of the Eagle Nationals. A crowd, reportedly near
4000 saw the Greatest Show on Dirt put on their usual spectacle.
Supporting the World of Outlaws were the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks
and the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds.

Although the wind and temperatures turned the track dry-slick by the
time the Outlaws took the track for their qualifying, Joey Saldana
turned the fastest lap with a time of 12.456 seconds.

The Modifieds and Hobby Stocks ran their heat races first, because it
was decided that in order to allow the fans to see the type of racing
they've grown accustomed to seeing from the Outlaws, the track would be
reworked during intermission. A short 45-minute session of furious work
by Eagle's track prep crew saw the Outlaw cars begin their evening's
schedule.

After 3 heats of 9 410's ran, the "locals" took to the track for their B
Features. After those were concluded, the water truck was run around the
top of the track once again. Approximately 10 minutes later the Outlaw
Crane Cams Dash was run to set the lineup for the A Main. Brooke Tatnell
finished first with Steve Kinser in second.

Possibly the worst incident of the evening occurred as the cars came
around to finish the first lap of the Valentino's IMCA Modified Feature.
Sean Burklund was attempting to pass the 00 of Tim Pickens on the high
side approaching the flag stand. Just as he came along side of Pickens,
the 2 cars made contact; sending Burklund into the front stretch wall.
That catapulted him up and over and he eventually came to a halt upside
down on Pickens' hood. All told, there were 8 cars involved in the melee.

On the restart, the 12X of George Haney held the lead with Terry
Richards close behind in the #21 and the V45 of Rik Gropp in third. They
held that order until with just 9 laps to go, Chris Alcorn drove his #3
into fourth position followed by Doug Deterding's #13. 2 laps later,
Deterding got around Alcorn for fourth. 2 laps later Richards moved into
first with Gropp following him to take second. With 3 laps to go, Alcorn
repassed Deterding and then on the final circuit got around Gropp for
second.

"After not being in a race car for 7 years, and then having the troubles
we've had the last 3 weeks during my comeback I'm thrilled." Terry said.
This was Richards' second feature win at Eagle Raceway. "What was odd
was that my first one came on Snap-On night out here. Now, I'm a Snap-On
Dealer and they had that big thing for Snap-On up front tonight. Another
thing some people think is odd is we're running a small block Ford in
this car, not a small block Chevy" he added. When asked about tonight's
track Terry stated "I love a dry-slick track. If there's a cushion up
top, then I'm there. I actually was worried after they reworked the
track, but it actually helped me in the end" he stated. "I do want to
thank my only sponsor, TR's Tool Service for all of their help" he finished.

In the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stock feature Shane Hiatt jumped to the
early lead in his #21H with Ron Novak's 14 and Dan Noonan's 12 in hot
pursuit. Shortly after the race started, there was a yellow flag. And
when the red flag came out to set the lineup, a fuel leak was discovered
in Hiatt's car; sending him to the pits. With only 3 laps in the books,
Noonan passed Novak to move into first place. Only 2 laps later Novak
was forced into the pits with a flat tire. This put the 42 of Rob Brown
into second with Justin Wulf's #86 in third. The rest of the race saw
Noonan hold off the fierce competition behind him. The only official
position change came when the 1R of RJ Macku jumped from fourth to
second with 2 laps remaining.

"The track was great, really fast on the high side," said Derick. "They
don't call me 'Front Row Noonan' for nothing" he added with a big smile.
"I want to thank everybody for not letting me give up after the bad
night I had last week. Now, we have to get my dad an A Main win and we
will; one way or the other" he stated. "I want to thank all of my
sponsors, including Advanced Auto Glass, Suds & Scissors Pet Grooming
and Low Budget Customs Chassis & Graphics. I send out a special 'Thank
You' to my wife and parents, and of course the neighborhood gang. Also,
I have to mention what they're calling the "Noonan Crew in Section C".
All these people helped me win this one" he finished.

Finally came the long-awaited World of Outlaws A Feature. Brooke Tatnell
took the lead from his starting position on the pole in his #2 Volcano
Joe's Coffee sprinter. Behind him were the #11 of Steve Kinser, Jac
Haudenschild's #35 and Joey Saldana in the #9. Just 4 laps into the race
Saldana moved around Haudenschild for third, but the red flag flew after
Kinser got sideways coming out of turn #4 and Daryn Pittman's #21 struck
Kinser's front tire. That sent Pittman flipping. Terry McCarl also
received damage when he ran into Kinser, as did the #15 of Donny Schatz
who suffered a bent wing attempting to clear Pittman as he flipped.
Neither Kinser nor Pittman could restart.

The running order on the restart was Tatnell, Haudenschild, Saldana, the
7S of Jason Sides and Paul McMahan in the #20. But, after the green flag
flew Saldana got around Haudenschild for second position. Just 2 laps
later, Saldana got around Tatnell for the lead. Another 11 laps were in
the books when Haudenschild also passed Tatnell, taking over second
place. On the very next circuit Danny Lasoski passed the #2 on the
bottom of the track.

From there the battle for the lead raged between Haudenschild and
Saldana. By the closing laps of the race, the cushion was nearly
non-existent in turns 1 & 2,and the cars were running inches from the
wall, with the preferred line being on the bottom of 3 & 4. Haudenschild
who struck the wall hard on the 30th lap showed this in grand style.
After that, Saldana cruised to the victory.

"It's so great to finally get my first A Main win at Eagle. I've run
second, crashed…everything but won here. It's so huge to finally get a
win here. I know my dad would be thrilled, and so would my grandpa" he
said. Joey's father is of course one of the icons of sprint car racing,
"Little Joe" Saldana who turned many many laps on Eagle's high banks in
the past. Joey's grandfather was a fixture at the pit gate at the now
closed Midwest Speedway in Lincoln, Nebraska years ago. When asked about
the track conditions, Joey stated "I'm glad they decided to do rework
it. The track held up really well, only going rubber-down in turns 3 &
4. If they hadn't done it, the whole track would have been that way by
lap 20".

Be sure to come out next weekend for a "Dads Rock" celebration of
Father's Day, presented by Legend's Sports Bar. Eagle returns to its
regular Saturday night line-up of Budweiser Championship 360 sprints,
Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks and
Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA Sport Compacts.

Johnson finally notches Red Cloud win

By Mike Hughes

RED CLOUD, NE (June 8)—Troy Johnson finally got the monkey off his back Friday night, June 8, at the Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE.

The Concordia, KS, driver has led the IMCA Modified main event twice earlier this season, only to have problems and watch the finish of those races on the infield. But Johnson took the lead at the drop of the green and led all 20 laps to finally make his way to the winner’s circle. Hometown driver Lonnie Schriner gave chase most of the race but could never get close enough to make a pass and had to settle for second. Josh Carpenter, Brian Calhoon and Scott Smith rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Lonnie Veteto and Johnson.

Brett Behrends of Webber, KS, became the first two-time winner in the always competitive IMCA Stock Car division. Chad Wulf led the first 7 laps before his motor let go, giving Jason Smidt the lead on the restart. Heat two winner Behrends made his move on lap 12 when he drove under Smidt in turn four and held on to the checkers. Smidt was second, followed by Matt Streit, heat one victor Martin Newlin, and Wayne Walker.

Jim Buss of Hastings took the lead away from Mike Shriver on lap 4 of the 15-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature to drive to his third Speed Bowl victory. A late race caution bunched the field up for the finish, but Buss held off heat one winner Shriver for the win. Rocky Zimmerman finished third, followed by heat two winner Joe McDole and Kyle Bond. Dillon Thompson rolled his car in the second heat but was not injured.

Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe of Hastings picked up their fourth Cruiser feature win at Red Cloud aleady this season. The Hastings duo led all 8 laps of the caution free race. Heat race winners Drew Barry & Justin VanWey finished second.

After winning the heat race, Andy Sole of Nelson led all 5 laps of the 4-cylinder Young Gun feature to make his way to victory lane. Troy Porter finished second.

The regular five divisions return this Friday night, June 15. Racing begins at 8:00 p.m. The Good Ol’ Time Racing Association (GOTRA) will also be on hand.

Fegers, Danley, and Schamp Conquer Opening Night of the Eagle Nationals

From Greg Soukup/Eagle Raceway:

Those who didn’t get out to Eagle Raceway, America’s Home Track and attend tonight’s first event in the Eagle Nationals definitely missed one of the greatest nights of racing in recent memory. A track that was slow at the start of the event turned lightning quick by the time the A Mains started.

The Back Row Challenge, featuring the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprints, the World Dirt Racing League Late Models and the Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA Sport Compacts was one to remember. Cool temperatures didn’t cool off the racing by so much as a degree. A total of 25 sprints, 26 Sport Compacts and 34 WDRL Late Models gave the crowd more than their money’s worth.

In the Stereo West Auto Toys Sport Compact A Feature there was a yellow flag on the first lap after the 44 of Jack Prall III, Jack Prall IV’s 45 and the 33 of Jeremy Noonan spun to a stop in the 2nd corner. On the restart the 63 of Mike Simpson took the lead with Jason Tadlock, Brian Haller and Derrick Dreamer in hot pursuit. On the 3rd lap, the B32 of Brian Haller spun bringing out the 2nd yellow flag of the evening. When racing resumed Jason Tadlock got around Simpson and the 2 of Dan Rhiley moved up into fourth. With just 6 laps left, Kyle Schamp had taken over the 2nd spot followed by Derrick Dreamer in third and Rich White’s 0 in fourth. White moved into the 3rd spot on the next lap, passing Rhiley. On the final lap Kyle Schamp took his #2Z around the high side in turn four and into the lead.

“I won this race for my parents tonight” Kyle said. “My dad had to go into the hospital today for an operation. I only wish my parents could have been here for this” he added. “They aren’t just my parents, they’re also my pit crew. Rusty, my dad is the Crew Chief and my mom is the ‘Tear-off lady’ he stated. “I wouldn’t be racing if it wasn’t for them being behind me and helping me” Kyle added.

Kyle’s sponsors are Durst Motorplex, Sardeson Racing, Ultrashield Race Product, Harris Decals, Ashland Tire & Service, Speedway Motors and RJS Racing Equipment”. This was Kyle’s first A Feature win after many runner-ups finishes. Earlier this year Kyle crossed the finish line first, but was put back 2 spots. He had raced for 1 season at I-80 before moving to Eagle Raceway for the last 2 years.

What do you do if you are a racer in the premier 410 sprint car series in the world and you have a night off? You come to Eagle Raceway and drive a Budweiser Championship Sprint car of course. Justin Henderson did just that this evening. After finishing first in his heat race, Henderson did what any true racer would do in hopes of pleasing the crowd; he took the “Back Row Challenge”, starting dead last in the A-Main.

“I just wouldn’t have felt right if I hadn’t done it” Justin stated. “I knew the fans deserved someone making that attempt, and I had to at least try,” he added. “I probably picked the wrong night to even think about such a thing, because the track was just too fast to be able to pull it off. The only way I could have managed it is if there were a bunch of cautions, but that didn’t happen,” he said. Starting from the 25th position, he did manage to move up to 11th by the end of the race. “I do want to let everyone know that I’m not going to spot the World of Outlaws guys anything tomorrow night,” he stated with a huge smile. Thanks to Justin for participating tonight, and good luck tomorrow night.

The Budweiser 360 Championship Sprint Car A Feature saw more than a few folks make tremendous moves forward. John Klabunde grabbed the early lead after starting on the front row. He was chased by Jason Danley in the 82, Jeff Griffis in the 3 and the 19J of Jay Jordan. Danley moved around Klabunde on the 4th lap, and Griffis also passed Klabunde on the next circuit. Griffis was forced to retire to the infield on the 15th lap however, moving Tige Jensen’s #71 to 2nd and the 91 of Brad Krutz to 3rd. Krutz and Jensen then exchanged 3rd place over the next few laps while the 96KX of Adam Gullion took fourth position, coming all the way from the 17th starting spot. Danley took the checkers after holding 1st place the remainder of the race.

Jason said “This one’s the crew’s win tonight. I got here late, and even missed hot laps. Once I got into the car, we didn’t have to change a thing the rest of the night”. This was Jason’s 2nd A Feature win this year, to go along with one 2nd place finish. “I guess this proves that anyone who says I can only win on a dry-slick track is all wrong” he added.

When the WDRL Late Models took center stage for the last race of the evening, 24 high-horsepower monsters gave one of the best performances in a long time in their first appearance ever at Eagle. Justin Fegers, in his 15F set quick time for the series, running only 7/10’s of a second off of the track record during qualifying and also garnered the QA1 Passing Points Award.

Eric Pember took the lead on the start, followed by Chris Simpson and Brian Harris. Justin Fegers had moved up to the 3rd position by the 2nd lap, and just 12 laps later he advanced to 2nd. The 16th lap saw the 85 of John Kantana take over third place and just 3 laps later Fegers moved into first. A yellow flag on lap 25 caused a 2-abreast restart behind Fegers. He held the lead with Pember and Kantana in hot pursuit. The 21H of Brian Harris had come back up to third with 33 laps in the books and 2 laps later he jumped into 2nd place. With 9 laps left Harris passed Fegers to take the lead. He extended his lead, but a slight bobble on the last circuit allowed Fegers to get around him on the high side of turn 4 for the win.

Justin was the WDRL Rookie of the Year 2 years ago, but didn’t follow the points chase last year, opting to run closer to home.

Justin said “Early on when I got the lead I was taking it kind of easy. Every time down the backstretch, I was checking myself out on the big screen and didn’t see anyone in the frame with me so I figured I could back off a little. Suddenly Brian got by me and I knew I had a fight on my hands. Honestly, if he hadn’t messed up on the last lap I could never have gotten him”. “This is the first time I ever won a race at the flag stand; I’ve lost plenty there but never won one until tonight. Actually, it was an accident when I jumped the cushion in turn 3. We call that the ‘Cowboy Line’, because all you can do is hang on and yell YEEHAW!!!” he added. “My home track is Cedar Lake, and it’s a lot like Eagle, so I was really comfortable here. I’m thankful I could get past Brian for the win” he finished.

Remember that tomorrow night is the 2nd night of the Eagle Nationals, featuring the World of Outlaws 410 Sprints along with the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks and Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds. Front gates open at 4 with racing at 7 P.M. Tickets are only $35 for adults, $10 for youths 6-13 and $10 child 5 & under (one child free with one paid adult.) This is the Outlaw’s only appearance in Nebraska this year, and may be the last show at Eagle Raceway ever, so be sure to come out and support America’s Home Track.

Schatz Aims To Capture First Eagle Nationals

FARGO, ND (June 7) - The list of accomplishments for defending World of
Outlaws champion Donny Schatz gets longer each year he competes with "the
Greatest Show on Dirt". Last season, he was finally able to win the coveted
Knoxville Nationals and added the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. This year
there a couple more races he'd like to add including Saturday night's 25th
annual Eagle Nationals.

Schatz will pilot a special schemed Snap-on Tools red and black No. 15 J&J
with Shaver power at Eagle Raceway hoping to better his finishing position
from last summer's event when he came home second.

"Ever since the fall of 2002, Eagle has been a really good place for me,"
said Schatz, who has won three of the last four September WoO "A" feature
events at the track. "We had a good run going last June and made a mistake
and finished second the first night and just got beat the second night. I
guess we made up for it in September when we raced from 15th to first. This
is our only shot at Eagle this year, so we'll have to do it Saturday."

This season, the Fargo, ND racer has continued the torrid pace he set last
year en route to winning his first WoO championship. He leads the series
standings by 64 points over Joey Saldana, and has won a series leading seven
races. His statistics include 26 top ten finishes in the first 29 races of
2007 and 18 of those have been top three finishes.

"Once you reach a certain level, you really aren't satisfied with anything
but winning," continued Schatz, who has 59 career "A" WoO feature wins. "We
don't worry about the standings after each race. We worry about wins. I said
it last year and I really believe that the guy that wins the most races is
the guy to beat at the end of the year. We try to go out and win every night
and that's all we worry about."

Winning Saturday would make a number of the fans planning on attending
happy. Not only does Schatz have family relatives in the area, but more than
275 of his closest Snap-on Tools friends will be in the grandstands. Schatz
Motorsports and Snap-on Tools began a relationship this season and it
includes racing a unique red and black Snap-on branded sprint car.

Saturday's race will be the third of ten nights the car will be in action
this season. Schatz is hoping for a repeat performance of the car's debut in
Knoxville when he won the feature event on April 28.

"It's exciting to be involved with a marketing partner like Snap-on,"
continued Schatz, who will be making his 30th WoO start at Eagle Saturday.
"They are a great group of people and we've been long users of their
product. They have by far the best tools out there and when you see a group
of people come out to support the program like they have, it's pretty
special. We're going to do our best to get them another win and hope they
have a great time seeing the race."

Schatz is coming off a runner-up finish on Tuesday night at Kokomo Speedway
in Kokomo, IN. Last year, Schatz was incredibly consistent and scored ten of
his 19 wins in the races that followed a second place finish.

Before Tuesday night, he had three second place finishes to date this year.
Twice he has finished third in the next race and following the third time he
finished second (May 23 - Grandview Speedway), the 29 year-old raced to
victory in Charlotte.

'Our short track program continues to get better," said Schatz, who has one
short track victory this season (Houston - March). "We were pretty good at
Kokomo and before that had a good night at Grandview. We've made a lot of
laps at Eagle, so we've got a pretty good idea on where to begin with the
car. The key is to have the car so that we are good enough at the end of the
night to fight for another win."

Fans can follow all the action from Saturday's Eagle Nationals by logging
onto www.dirtvision.com.

ON TELEVISION

The World of Outlaws television package continues to pick up steam with
their third telecast on SPEED airing Sunday at 1 PM (et). The broadcast is
from The Dirt Track at Lowe's where Schatz stormed to victory on May 25th in
front of a capacity crowd of more than 14,000 fans.

Next Sunday, the SuperClean Summer of Money series begins on ESPN2 with the
race from Knoxville airing only hours after the checkered flag falls.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's program in Nebraska, the team will return to Fargo for
a couple of days in the shop. The team will also make an appearance on
Tuesday at 1st International Bank & Trust from 4 - 7 p.m. (4501 40th Ave.
S., Fargo).

The next race is on Thursday in Pontoon Beach, IL just a few miles east of
St. Louis. The event at Tri-City Speedway was originally scheduled for May
4th and marks the debut of the Outlaws at the track in its reconfigured
3/8-mile shape. The track used to be a long and fast half-mile oval.

Two nights later, Schatz will return to Knoxville Raceway where currently
holds a three-race winning streak. It started with last year's Knoxville
Nationals in August and was followed by a victory during a rescheduled WoO
event on October 7. He continued the streak on April 28th when Schatz
debuted the Snap-on schemed No. 15 J&J with a win.

SPONSOR SUPPORT

The Schatz Motorsports No. 15 can compete with the World of Outlaws at a
championship level because of relationships with corporate partners. Global
ParkerStore and Hose Doctor have been partners with the team since 1999 and
Bellerud Transport has been with Schatz since he first began racing with the
WoO in 1997. Petro Stopping Centers, Schatz Crossroads and Snap-on Tools are
also partners in the program.

Schatz Motorsports has a winning combination on the track because they work

"Dune Buggy" type racecars

This is something I found searching around on the internet. It's a 1994 WoO Syracuse Supernationals T-Shirt on eBay. I'm not interested in it, but I liked the description: "Illustration by Schrum of Dune Buggy type racecars."

And it's 35% off! *

World of Outlaws Head to Eagle Raceway for Eagle Nationals

Lincoln, NE-June 7, 2007--By: Tony Veneziano, WoO Sprint Series PR Director

The World of Outlaws will invade the high-banked 1/3-mile Eagle Raceway on
Saturday, June 9 for the Eagle Nationals.

The World of Outlaws have sanctioned 36 A-Feature events at Eagle Raceway
dating back to 1981. Five drivers currently competing full-time with the
series have won at the track located in Lincoln, Nebraska, led by Steve
Kinser.

Last season, Daryn Pittman swept the Eagle Nationals, which was a two-day
event, winning both the preliminary feature and the A-Feature in the annual
spring event, to claim his first World of Outlaws wins at the track. The
native of Owasso, Oklahoma has won twice in 2007, and heads to Eagle solidly
in the third spot in championship points. He has 21 Top-10 finishes on the
season, with 10 of those being in the Top-Five.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, last competed at Eagle
Raceway in 2005, and led every single lap of feature competition that
season. He swept both nights of the Eagle Nationals in the spring and
followed that up with a sweep of the 1/3-Mile Short Track Nationals in the
fall of that same year. In total, he led 140 consecutive laps of racing at
the track in 2005, including in preliminary features. In his career, he has
won 15 A-Feature events at Eagle Raceway. This season he has five wins and
is fifth in championship points.

Donny Schatz, the reigning World of Outlaws champion won at Eagle last fall,
taking the lead with just three laps to go, after starting the A-Feature in
the 15th spot in the 1/3-mile Short Track Nationals. That marked the
farthest back a winner came from all season. Last spring in the Eagle
Nationals, he finished in the Top-Five on both nights and led laps in the
feature on the opening night. He has three career A-Feature wins at the
track The native of Fargo, North Dakota currently leads the World of Outlaws
standings on the strength of seven A-Feature wins and 26 Top-10 finishes
heading to Eagle Raceway.

Joey Saldana finished sixth or better in all three of the events last season
at Eagle Raceway. Driving for NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, the native of
Brownsburg, Indiana is currently second in points on the strength of six
A-Feature wins on the season. Through the first 29 events of the season he
recorded 23 Top-10 finishes. He won on Tuesday night in the Hoosier Sprint
Nationals at Kokomo Speedway in his home state.

Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion is a former winner at
Eagle Raceway in series competition. He won at the 1/3-mile in 2004. The
native of Dover, Missouri has two wins on the season including edging Schatz
on May 23 at Grandview Speedway in Pennsylvania by 0.036 seconds. He is
fourth in points, just four markers out of third, on the strength of 19
Top-10 finishes.

Jason Meyers ran strong in his last visit to Eagle Raceway in 2005,
recording Top-Five finishes in both A-Feature events, including a runner-up
performance in the Eagle Nationals. The native of Clovis, California has
been one of the most consistent drivers this season with the World of
Outlaws and is currently sixth in championship points on the strength of two
A-Feature wins and 19 Top-10 finishes heading into the Eagle Nationals.

Craig Dollansky led a number of laps at Eagle Raceway last season, and
finished in the Top-three in all three of the events at the track. He won
his first race of 2007 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Missouri in May, and
recently welcomed veteran World of Outlaws crew chief and car owner Mike
Woodring to his team. In just their second race together, Dollansky finished
fourth at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in New York on Memorial Day. He also
was fourth on Tuesday night at Kokomo Speedway in the Hoosier Sprint
Nationals, and is seventh in championship points, with 18 Top-10 finishes.

Paul McMahan set fast time in his last visit to Eagle Raceway in 2005.
Driving for two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart, he is solidly in the
Top-10 in championship points and won his first race of the season last
Saturday night at Eldora Speedway in Ohio, which is also owned by his car
owner. The native of California who now calls Nashville home is eighth in
points on the strength of 13 Top-10 finishes.

.

Jason Solwold continues to close in on his first World of Outlaws A-Feature
victory. He earned his fourth Top-Five finish of the season on Tuesday night
at Kokomo Speedway, after leading several laps last Saturday at Eldora
Speedway, where he finished second. The native of Mt. Vernon, Washington won
two preliminary features last season, one at Silver Dollar (Calif.) Speedway
during the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, and the other at Williams
Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania during the National Open. Solwold heads into
the Eagle Nationals with 16 Top-10 finishes.

Jac Haudenschild has won twice at Eagle during his career. He earned his
first win at the track in 1989 and followed that up with a triumph in 2002.
He is currently 10th in World of Outlaws championship points on the strength
of 11 Top-10 finishes, with four of those being in the Top-Five.

Also in action at the Eagle Nationals will be: Jason Sides of Bartlett,
Tennessee, who earned two Top-10 finishes in 2005 at the 1/3-mile. Sides is
the 2003 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year. Tim Shaffer,
the 1999 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year will also be in
attendance, along with six-time Knoxville Raceway and Huset's Speedway track
champion Terry McCarl, in addition to current rookie leader Kerry Madsen of
St. Mary's, NSW, Australia, another former Knoxville Raceway champion. Randy
Hannagan, the 1995 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finished in the Top-10
in both A-Feature events at the track in 2006, and is coming off a strong
run in the Hoosier Sprint Nationals on Tuesday night.

Justin Henderson who finished in the Top-10 last fall at Eagle will also be
in action, along with reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Chad
Kemenah of Ohio, and second-year driver Jeremy Campbell of Michigan, who was
sixth in the Eagle Nationals last season, along with second-year driver
Jason Martin of Kansas, veteran Dion Hindi of New Mexico, and Brooke Tatnell
who led a number of laps last fall at the track and finished second.

Current rookie contenders that will also be in action include: Tony Bruce
Jr. of Kansas, Zach Chappell of Oklahoma, Sam Hafertepe Jr. of Texas and
Chad Hillier of Washington.

Veteran Brian Carlson of Indiana will miss the event after sustaining
ligament and muscle damage at Lake Ozark Speedway in Missouri last month.

Thoughts on the wingless show at Eagle

Well, the wingless sprints went off without a hitch at Eagle, despite the gloomy predictions after seeing flipping sprinters in practice sessions not one rollover took place, and only a few spins delayed the action.

It was an interesting experience but I can't say I'm ready for it to take a regular place on the calendar yet. We'll see if a few more locals are ready to go topless as I don't think Roger will be able to pull the outsiders for every show. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm giving this experiment the benefit of the doubt but frankly I was bored by THAT show on THAT night. The modified feature was much more entertaining.

That said, it's a class in its infancy on a what was a changing track. The rain, and a new track definitely warranted the need for extra hot lap sessions. I remarked after the A feature, "now if they could run 'em again we may have something!" They seemed to be finally getting into the groove by then.

But there was a marked difference between the level of competition from top to bottom. On one hand you had Don Droud, Jr. who has experience in midgets and wingless competition versus a few who chose to run the bottom a la the late Kenny Beedle. There were motor differences as well.

As I've said before many times, it needs to be built before it becomes permanent. And once the novelty wears off it will have to stand on it's own merits such as quality of competition.

In the end, I still think it was a successful first outing and worth trying again. But I missed the winged cars on Saturday night.

However, some people (and if you read the message boards, the majority) were ecstatic over the wingless show. Others have predicted doom and gloom. One person told me that this is the way to see what the crowd would be like if the sprints weren't there.

A saying I like to use goes like this: "It is what it is." What does that mean? It means look at the situation objectively and don't make conclusions based on hype, fear, hysteria, etc. Look at the facts.

Simply put the wingless show was what it was; it was not the beginning of the end of the winged sprint class, nor was it the greatest show on 64 wheels.

It was a race on a Saturday night that didn't have a lot of bad things, had a few good things and everything went off well. That's all and that's all it really needed to be for the first time.

The 5 W's, Eagle Raceway and Chris Alcorn

In the limited amount of Journalism classes I took, the first thing I learned about article writing is the 5-W's: Who, What, When, Where and Why. No story is complete without them.

So let me begin with the Chris Alcorn conspiracy

Who: Chris Alcorn and Eagle Raceway

What: Showing favoritism by letting him drive rough and giving him spots on yellow flags

When: Every night he wins - four times so far

Where: Uh, Eagle Raceway?

Why: hmmm....

Go ahead and think about it, I'll wait.....

Yeah, I can't figure it out either.

What does a racetrack have to gain by favoring a competitor? Does the track benefit to have one guy win 2/3 of the races? What good does that do in this era of multiple tracks and back-gate promoting to run off competitors with favoritism?

Is Chris Alcorn paying off Roger Hadan so that he wins another track championship? Is the money Chris pays Roger in this scenario enough to make up for the lost back gate revenue and bad feelings in the stands?

Does Chris have secret information on Roger he's blackmailing him with? Did Roger actually put magnets in the bottom of the track disguised as sheepsfoot prints so Chris could run the bottom when nobody else could Saturday night?

There's no family connection, no sponsor connection, and Chris seems to be a pretty stoic, even-keeled guy. Comes to the track, races, and leaves.

Again, the one question all these people fail to answer is WHY? Let me know and I'll buy you a new tinfoil hat.

We can talk about missed calls, questionable issues, but this still is at worst incompetence, and at best a case of wrong place, wrong time. Yes, there can be consistency issues, I've seen them.

But what we're dealing with is an accusation of deliberately fixing races.

It's the ultimate slap in the face to the sport. It's another level - crossing that line more than any other sideshow or bus-race exhibition at the track. We're accusing someone of totally eliminating the competition aspect – the core of racing.

I remember when working at Eagle getting emails from people saying we showed favoritism to Mike Meyer, John Schwartz, Rodney Droud, Rick Ideus (!), etc., etc.

My favorite was in 2005 when we got an email going on about how we are showing so much favoritism to Meyer because he's got his car on display (Mike volunteered) and he's winning races.

The week after the Modified Invitational with the World of Outlaws in the Summer of 2005 when Dave Trauernicht nipped Meyer at the line by 12-thousandths of a second, we received an email from a different address but the same gramatically-shaky, but "fonetikally-sownd" individual about how we favored Trauernicht and always favored the Beatrice cars.

With all the grief officials take at the track, why would they want deliberately-induced situations adding fuel to that fire? I know several of the Eagle officials and I consider many of them to be my friends. I've been on that end too.

They (and any other track officials) got enough troubles to deal with on a race night much less trying to pull of a grand scheme to set up a championship for...an IMCA Modified weekly show?!?

That's a lot of work, a lot of scheming on so many levels and a lot of risk for what could never be a big enough payoff.

Besides, who could pull it off with all the eagle-eyed observers and their internet connections?

Davenport And Eagle Up Next For World Dirt Racing League

Contrasting race tracks challenge series drivers June 6 and June 8

By Tom Lathen
WORLD Dirt Racing League

(Gilman City, MO) Series events at Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa and Eagle Raceway near Eagle, Nebraska are next on the schedule for the cars and stars of the WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series.

The two events, scheduled for Wednesday and Friday, June 6 and June 8, respectively, will provide a contrast for WDRL competitors, with Davenport Speedway’s slightly-banked half-mile being known as a motor race track, while Eagle’s high-banked third-mile bull ring is described as more of a driver’s race track. The event at Eagle, will be the first-ever appearance at the popular Cornhusker state bull ring, by the WORLD Dirt Racing League.

“These two events should provide race fans with plenty of action,” noted Jim Wilson, series director of the WDRL. “Over the years, our races at Davenport Speedway have attracted large fields of cars and very competitive racing, and it goes without saying that the third-mile at Eagle will definitely be exciting.”

“Drivers will definitely be put to the test,” added Wilson. “These two race tracks couldn’t be any more different, with Davenport’s long straightaways and slightly-banked corners, compared to the short straightaways and very high-banked corners at Eagle. It will be interesting to see how the drivers adapt to the two different styles of race tracks.”

With five of 27 series events in the books, Mound, Minnesota’s Justin Fegers continues to sit atop the PolyDome Late Model Series point standings. Fegers, the 2005 series Rookie-of-the-Year, has a series win earlier this season at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and has yet to finish outside the top-ten in a series event. Last weekend at northeast Iowa’s Dubuque Speedway, the 27-year old driver survived a near catastrophic qualifying race accident and accepted a series provisional before racing to a satisfying tenth-place finish in the annual “Rumble By The River 100.”

Buoyed by an impressive fifth-place finish last weekend at Dubuque, Brian Harris of Davenport, Iowa has moved into second-place in the series standings, only nine markers behind the front-running Fegers. Harris, who came from the back of the field at Dubuque following a lap-seven tangle, also has yet to finish out of the top-ten this season, with his best effort being a second-place finish at West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa in late April.

A mere eight points separate Cosgrove, Iowa’s Dave Eckrich, Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, and Elk Mound, Wisconsin driver John Kaanta in the battle for third, fourth, and fifth in the current WDRL driver’s standings. Eckrich, who won the series event earlier this year at West Liberty Raceway, is currently third in the points chase, 36 points behind the pace-setting Fegers. Simpson, who led for 29-laps at Dubuque before finishing fourth, is 31 behind the leader, with Kaanta, a winner earlier this year at Freeport Raceway Park in Illinois, just 34 points behind the front-runner.

Other series combatants expected to be in the field at both Davenport and Eagle include Pittsville, Wisconsin’s Eric Pember, two-time defending series champion Denny Eckrich of Tiffin, Iowa, “The River City Hustler,” Ray Guss, Jr. of Milan, Illinois, last year’s series Rookie-of-the-Year Jason Utter of Columbus Junction, Iowa and Matt Furman and Rob Moss, both of Iowa City, Iowa. Marion, Iowa’s Chad Simpson, an early leader at Dubuque Speedway, is also expected to represent the WDRL at both events, along with Marshfield, Wisconsin’s Tim Isenberg, Curt Martin of Independence, Iowa, Edina, Minnesota’s Andrew McKay, and Billy Koons of Omaha, Nebraska.

As is normally the case, the field at Davenport will be dotted with a number of regional Late Model hot-shoes including Cedar Falls, Iowa’s Jeff Aikey, a five-time IMCA (International Motor Contest Association) Deery Series champion, last year’s Farley Speedway track champion Andy Eckrich of Iowa City, Iowa, Dan Shelliam of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, last year’s weekly track champion at both Dubuque Speedway and Freeport Raceway Park, exciting Badger state driver Ace Ihm, also of Hazel Green, five-time Freeport Raceway Park track titlist Craig Jacobs of Freeport, Illinois, second-generation Lancaster, Missouri driver Chris Smyser, four-time Lee County Speedway (Donnellson, Iowa) Late Model champion Tommy Elston of Keokuk, Iowa, 38-year Kirksville, Missouri veteran Sonny Findling, two-time Freeport Raceway Park weekly champion Jeff “Bone” Larson of Freeport, Illinois, and the father-and-son tandem of Johnny and Jay Johnson, both of West Burlington, Iowa.

At Eagle Raceway on Friday, former two-time WDRL champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska is expected to be in the field, along with former NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national champions Joe and Ed Kosiski of Omaha and Ralston, Nebraska, respectively. Other area drivers expected to compete at the exciting eastern Nebraska speed plant include Omaha, Nebraska’s John Anderson, who already has scored four regional touring wins this season, 35-year Late Model veteran Al Humphrey of Giltner, Nebraska, Council Bluffs, Iowa hot-shoe Mike Collins, a former NASCAR Weekly Racing Series regional top-five finisher, Yutan, Nebraska’s Craig Preble, Brian Kenkel and Scott Daly, both of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and up-and-coming young Bellevue, Nebraska driver Corey Zeitner.

As no group qualifying will be held at Davenport Speedway on Wednesday, action will get underway with hot-laps at 6:00, following by heat race action at 6:30. On Friday at Eagle, hot laps are set to start at 6:30, with group qualifying scheduled for a 7:00 start.

Collins, Coffee, Hipnar, and Sink Visit Victory Lane At I-80 Speedway

By Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 06/03/07) On a night where rain showers threatened the
speedway, 90+ cars filled the pit area at I-80 Speedway. Mike Collins, Reese
Coffee, Todd Hipnar, and Josh Sink all took the checkered flag first on an
excitement packed night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action.

The 25 lap Dodge Super Late Model "A" main event saw the #25 of Kenny
Edwards take the early lead from his front row inside starting position. As
the cars hit the back straightaway Edwards would be passed by outside front
row starter Mike Collins. The Council Bluffs Iowa native would maintain the
lead through a series of cautions that halted the race over a hand full of
times. The final restart of the night came on lap 19, Collins would receive
major pressure from the #76 of "Awesome" Al Zeitner. Zeitner would try to
work under Collins, but doing so gave Joe Kosiski time to make up ground. On
the final lap Kosiski would be able to pass Zeitner in turns three and four
as Mike Collins held the lead. Collins would finish first followed by
Kosiski, Zeitner, Al Humphrey and Corey Zeitner.

Reese Coffee would take the early lead in the 18 lap modified "A" feature.
Coffee would start fifth, and use the inside lane to take the lead down the
back straightaway going into turn three. With Coffee out front the battle
for second was between Matt Richards, Mike Johnson, and Mike Meyers.
Richards would pull away from Johnson and on the final lap Meyers would
loose an engine going into turn three. Meyers would slow and the yellow
would fly. As the yellow came out the #92 of Bub Lerette would spin on the
front straight away and stack up the rest of the field. Luckily everyone
came to a stop in time. With the checkered flag already out, Reese Coffee
would get the win. Richards, Johnson, Jonah Chin who started 17th, and
Justin Clark round out the top five.

The 20 lap City Weekly Grand National "A" feature event would have the #12
of Todd Hipnar take the win. Hipnar would start 12th and make his way
through the field in the opening laps of the event. Dave Cook and Harley
Moen would battle during the closing laps with Cook passing Moen on the
final corner. Gary Leapley would finish fourth after starting on the pole
and the #2x of Andrew Kosiski finished fifth after starting tenth. A very
scary moment happened on the second lap of the first Grand National heat
race. Laini Schwartz would get upside down going down the back stretch. Her
car would flip multiple times before coming to a rest right-side-up.
Thankfully she would be able to walk away uninjured.

The 15 lap Hobby Stock main event saw the #10 of Josh Sink jump to an early
lead. Sink would run away and hide as he had a 15+ car length advantage in
the opening laps. Around half way through the event the yellow would come
out as the #10g of Jeremy Garrison blew an engine. On the restart Sink would
be challenge by the #7 of Tom Myers. Myers would try to pull close to Sink,
but Sink was just to much. Sink would take the win, followed by Myers, Jimmy
Nichols, Jeremy Auten, and Josh True. The #99 of "Crazy" Jesse Sobbing would
be running up front until making contact with the wall in the closing laps.
With the win Josh Sink picks up a $100 Tom & Tiffs Family Restaurant Bonus.

I-80 Speedway is located off I-80 at exit 420 between Omaha and Lincoln and

The hardest mod crash I've seen

Ed Raines took this hard ride Saturday night at Eagle Raceway. Fortunately Ed walked out and talked to the crowd, to riotous applause and cheers.

I'll have more from the sequence this week.

David City Speedway

Many people know I'm a photo buff and I'm beginning a project on small-towns in Nebraska.

I was out driving around today scouting some stuff and noticed the grandstands of the David City Speedway. Here's a quick snapshot from as close as I could get. Maybe someday the old track could come back to life hosting things other than figure-8 races.

Eagle Raceway: Droud, Alcorn, Small, and Rhiley Beat the Rain

From Eagle Raceway:

Despite a reported 3 inches of rain on Friday, coupled with off and on
rain showers throughout the afternoon, Student Breakout Night presented
by Stereo West Auto Toys brought a really good crowd out to America's
Race Track Eagle Raceway to see the return of a regular wingless sprint
show to the high banks for the first time in recent memory.

A rain shower just as hot laps were running put the evening's
festivities in jeopardy, but the Eagle track prep staff saved the day
along with the dedicated racers who remained on the track long enough to
bring the racing surface back.

Even with that slight delay, racing kicked off at 7 P.M. First up were 2
heats of the Bud Light Wingless 360 sprints. The month-long wait after a
rainout on the first attempt with the class was quickly forgotten.
Drivers from as far away as Phoenix, Arizona and Minnesota raced
alongside local sprint car pilots in a long awaited return to Eagle's past.

There was plenty of excitement in the other classes also, including a
breathtaking series of rolls by the 11AA of Doctor Ed Raines in the 3rd
heat of the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds. The 00 of Barry
Kinnersley also silenced the crowd as he nearly duplicated Raines' rolls
just past the flag stand on the 4th lap of the Stereo West Auto Toys
IMCA Sport Compact B Feature. Thankfully, both drivers walked away; with
Kinnersley's car being driven back to his pit stall.

The first A-Main event saw the Bud Light Wingless 360 Sprints on the
track. A local celebrity, Don Droud Jr. in the family-owned #2, jumped
from his outside front row position into the lead followed by the 57 of
Rik Forbes. As the race progressed, he stretched his advantage to nearly
a half-lap cushion. He kept that advantage until Jeff Lowrey's #45 spun
to the infield with only 5 laps left. Droud again jumped ahead of his
competitors and won by nearly a straightaway.

"This was really cool" Droud Jr. stated. "I wish we could run the
wingless sprints more often than just once a month. I want to tell Roger
thank you for giving us this chance," he added. "I am so excited right
now!" he finished. Droud Jr.'s sponsors include Schmeiding concrete,
Hoppe's Hauling, Erickson Chiropractic and Lincoln Drywall. "I do want
to thank my dad, and a special thank you to my sisters; Monica and Dawn
for their support".

In the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified A Feature, the opening laps
saw Dylan Smith in the 95 at the point, followed by Tom Spanel in the 3T
and Dan Wayman's 5ST. With 8 laps gone, Rik Gropp moved into 3rd only to
be passed by the #3 of Chris Alcorn with 9 laps remaining. Reigning
points champion Alcorn then advanced to 2nd 2 laps later, moving Spanel
to third. With just 2 laps left, Smith got trapped behind the lapped #8C
of Chad Anderson. This gave Alcorn the break he needed to jump into the
lead and hold on for the victory, keeping him atop the points standings
for another week.

"I had serious doubts about being able to pass Dylan tonight. He was
really good where I was bad, and without the lapped traffic I could
never have made it" Alcorn said. "It was great to finally get into the A
through our heat, although we did get some minor front-end damage. I
really needed to find some more speed from what we had in our heat," he
added. "It was a really smooth track tonight. A little soft in places,
but with the rain, there's just not much that can be done. Roger's
definitely getting there, and hopefully it will stop raining so we can
get the track we know we can" he finished.

The Stereo West Auto Toys IMCA Sport Compact main event saw Mike
Simpson's #63 in front, then Jason Tadlock's 99 and Joey Danley in the
14. But, with 16 laps left, Dan Rhiley had already advanced to third in
his 2 Men and a Shop #2. It took Dan only 2 laps to move into second
position behind Simpson. The two battled for the next 9 laps, before
Rhiley managed to make the pass for the lead. Just 3 laps later, with 2
laps left the 2K of Kyle Schamp advanced to 2nd. The rest of the event
was a tremendous battle between Rhiley and Schamp, with Rhiley winning
by the slimmest of margins at the flag stand.

In the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature, Derick Noonan led in his
#21 with Daniel Jackson's 98 and the 38C of Casey Moyer close on his
rear bumper. Moyer moved into second with 12 to go, and into the lead
the following lap. 2 laps later Jackson was spun by the S53 of Scott
Robinson, allowing the 42 of Rob Brown to move into third position
followed by Rich Small in the 11X. On the restart, Brown jumped into
second and Small took over third. The following lap Small vaulted into
the lead, followed by Brown, but a yellow flag negated both drivers'
advancements. The restart saw Brown and Small in first and second,
followed by the 92 of Don Hall Jr. and Justin Wulf's 86. Three laps
later, Small overtook Brown, and Hall Jr. was forced to drop out of the
competition. The racing order remained unchanged until the last lap when
Wulf moved into second place. This was Small's first victory this year,
after having won 4 times last year.

"This was great" Small stated. "The first time in 4 weeks we didn't get
a flat tire. Definitely the best track this year by far" he added. "You
have to enjoy each and every win here at Eagle, because no win is easy
with the level of competition we have here. I really love racing with
all of these guys" Small said. Rich's sponsors include Front Runner Fab,
Triple H Farms, M'Credible Gun Dogs and Dave Dubas. "I also want to
thank everyone who's helped us out this year, and I can't wait to race
again next week" he finished.

Remember that next week sees 2 fabulous nights of racing; kicked off on
Friday with the "Back Row Challenge" featuring the Budweiser 360
Championship Sprints, the WDRL Late Models and the Stereo West Auto Toys
IMCA Sport compacts.

Then, Saturday night sees the return of the renowned World of Outlaws
for it's only appearance at Eagle Raceway this year. Also racing will be
the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds and the Valentino's Hobby Stocks.
